Watching the rangers-panthers game tonight. Rangers up 5-2 with 13 minutes to go in the 3rd. Rangers are penalized, panthers go on the powerplay...when they got the puck deep in the rangers zone, they pulled Luongo to have a 2-man advantage, with 13 minutes to go!
Never saw that in my 25 hockey years.
BTW, nothing came of it. After a whistle, Luongo was returned to his net and the rangers had an odd-man rush which resulted in a penalty against FLA and the end of their powerplay. Might see it again in this game though.

Hey Walk, LA did the same thing about 2 weeks ago... I thought it was a gamble but down 3, I guess it's a reasonable gamble, giving your O a 2 man advantage....

Keenan did that a lot when he was coaching Vancouver.

A few year ago (1971), the Habs need a win, tie or a loss with 4 goals on the last game of the season to get into the playoff. The were losing something like 4-1 after one so they played the rest of the game without the goaler. The game end up 10-2.

It was 69-70 season, 69-70 Standing but I can't found the scoresheet of this game.

I remember listening to the game, back when CBC did a Sunday night radio broadcast.

IIRC that same day the Rangers, playing in the afternoon, had pulled their goalie off and on throughout the game to score more goals and forestall the Habs, playing later that night.
