0 Subject: Rangers Playoff chances...

There's still hope!!!

After today's game where the Islanders forget to show up to (lost 6-0), the Rangers are 4pts back with 4 to play.

So lets break it down. Up to the second standings:

NYI 34-32-10-2, 80pts
NYR 32-34-9-3, 76pts

Monday
NYI - Off
NYR - ATL (must win this one of course, but the Thrashers have the Rangers number for some reason)
So, assuming a win:
NYI 34-32-10-2, 80pts
NYR 33-34-9-3, 78pts

Tuesday:
NYR @ NYI (This is a playoff game, if the Rangers lose, they're obviously out, so, naturally, we'll assume a Rangers win)

NYI 34-33-10-2, 80pts
NYR 34-34-9-3, 80pts

So, we're tied. Same # of wins (tiebreaker 1) and I think the Rangers would win the season series

Remaining Schedules
NYI: @Det, Atl, @Car
NYR: NJ, @Mon

so, ya gotta think Detroit can win at home. Then the season comes down to the final 2 games. The Islanders clearly have the easier schedule, but anything can happen! There's still hope for my overpaid old bums to finally make the playoffs and get swept :(!!!!!

When you lose to the Pittsburgh Penguins you don't deserve a playoff spot, Rangers will come close but that lost to the Pens cost them.

Oh, Altrain, we KNOW we do not deserve a playoff spot, for a number of reasons, but after five years, I'll take anything I can get!

;-)

Nice analysis fellow stranger lover, J...! Sure hope it comes to fruition!

Probably not.

Sure, Rangers lots to Pens, but they did go 9-4-2 in last 15. Keeping my fingers crossed...Though knowing Rangers, they'll find a way to lose to Atlanta or something :-(

J I love it You ARE the eternal optomist. And my Rangers won tonite (over the Angels). I guess that means TX will be hosting the World Serious this fall....not :>)

What is it with the name? Rangers Seems to bring out only the best of the worst.

Lindros, I can't describe my hatred towards you right now.

:(

Thrashers 4-0 against the Rangers this year, that kinda hurts :(

Well I was very excited for the NYI vs NYR, too bad the Rangers suck and can't even beat the Thrasher at home ice in the most important game of the year.
Sather that's what you get when you try to buy a team with no chemistry.

The red button just popped up on these turkeys.

Rangers out for 6 in a row (almost makes up for the 'Wings winning it last year).

Man, J. I watched a lot of last night's game. We dominated when it was 5 on 5, but our penalty killing is horrid. Heatley is awesome though.

Still, games we have to win. Lindros played great in the 3rd period, but could not put the puck in the net. Also, the penalty against Eric in OT, which led to the game winner, was terribly bogus. Whatever. They should win these games 5-1. Big, big, big game tonight. Isles are not playing well as of late; I look for a win.

nyi-nyr april 1

I cant believe that after ''letting the boys play'' all night the ref's made such a cheesy call with 2 mins left .

then , niinimaa gets high sticked right in front of the ref during that powerplay and it doesnt get called .

Dang, great game last night, J, but we did not do what we had to do: WIN. They made a great comeback merely to tie, but hey, a tie was a win for the Isles last night. Now it is all but lost, unless the Isles fold big time against the likes of Atlanta (only WE fold against them) and Carolina (the worst team in the East).

Actually, Atlanta has played well ever since Hartley became coach; Devils couldn't beat them either. I wouldn't be surprised if the Isles lose to both them and Detroit; but to expect them to lose all 3 AND for the Rangers to win their 2 is too much.

Let's face it, a team with a $80MM payroll should not be desperate for a win to make the last playoff spot. Will this misery ever end? Will we have to wait another 54 years?

Rangers out.

You'd think facing elimination they would play with a little more gusto & aggression . . . but oh no . . they manage a total of 10 shots in the last two periods. NJ weren't even forced to take any penalties after the 1 min mark of period 2 to control the Rangers.

Agreed, Chestergreat. Agreed. Lame as strangers. Lindros gets my blame, and he was roundly booed last night after the game ended and the players did their annual final home game sweater to fan giveaways. A shame. Leetch is a stud though and I sure hope they resign him. Amazing last 10 games or so he had. The rest of the organization is a mess, and has been for a long time. At least WE all here can manage a fantasy roster!
