Now we need Martin Brodeur to step up to inspire young French goalies.
I'm watching the news conference right now. Pierre Lacroix was sobbing when he talked about how he traded Roy to the Avs. I find it weird that a GM would cry in happiness over a trade. I think the Habs really got jipped after that Detroit meltdown.

If you look at the league, you'll notice that a large chunk of solid NHL goalies are French Canadian. For instance look at the Stanley Cup Finals. Both Marty Brodeur and JS Giguere are french canadians. Who did Brodeur have to beat in game 7 to get to the finals? Patrick Lalime. How about Joclyn Thibault? Martin Biron? Roberto Luongo?

And who do you think inspired them so that they want to be goalies? Most of the goalies these days grew up watching Roy play in Montreal. He was the icon from a lot of French boys.
Brodeur is the only one with the kind of stats that can match Roy's. But it's hard to inspire kids from New Jersey.

According to this he was born in Montreal. Pretty sure he's lived here all his life too.
