Come on guys--what's going on?

I'll pleased with the way the Devils are playing, but know it's going to be very tough for them in the two away games. If they can manage to take one of two it'll just about be over.

I'm excited that the game Saturday is on ABC. I only have basic cable, and so have been reduced to checking on on games via the internet and highlights on Len Berman's 11pm sports report on WNBC-NYC.

I'm expecting the Devils to sweep. Anaheim has just been totally shut down in both games so far. Hell, like Minny before them, they haven't even scored a goal yet.

I agree, IMO Anaheim has used it up, the magic is gone. It was a nice run however.

Could I be any more wrong?!?

My round 3 predictions:
Minny in 7 (they bow out in 4) and Ottawa in 5 (Devils take it in 7).
My stanley cup prediction: Ducks in 7. After they lose the first two, I change my mind and take Devils in 4. Now here we are, sprinting to a game 7 upset by the Ducks. I've been wrong about absolutely everything. So, to play it safe, I'm going to go on the record as saying the Habs WONT be winning the Cup this year...

Game 4 was amazing. All out effort by everyone. I wanted the Devils to win, of course, but was only disappointed that the end came so quickly into OT. Amazing effort by both goalies.

Shootout in NJ! 3-3 only halfway into the second period.

Scoring explosion!

Good segment by Don Cherry on HNIC Coach's Corner where he calls for elimination of the red line to stop the trap.

Don't think this will be an 8-7 game though.

5-3. Giggy having some troubles. Devils have been talking about crashing the net a lot more, and they are doing it very well tonight.

And the Ducks make it a series. Going to be one hell of a game 7 I think. Go Ducks!

Great start--only saw the first period (which was all I needed to see, I think!).

Strange period 2. Devils score after chance after chance, withstand some furious MD charges, then score again with Giggy screened out. Almost got a third goal with a puck dance on the goal line.

Ducks look defeated already. I don't think they are out of it, though.

No, just add it to the list of reasons why you should only watch hockey on CBC.

I suppose the Devils won the Friesen-Sykora trade.

Yeah there was this couple from Anaheim that said if the Ducks won the cup, he would ask his ugly girlfriend to marry him. That is unbelievable that that would be on TV. Who cares! I guess it would have been a complete cinderella story if the Ducks had won and he asked her to marry him at the end. How ridiculous.

Yeah, they look really depressed. My wife and I were wondering if that proposal only made sense to hockey fans--it made no sense to us.

He did propose (ABC was there too). What a loser, though.

He had to propose anyway even if they lost, he was on national TV and would have looked like a bigger moron if he didn't. He made that promise before the Ducks even started the playoffs and had no idea that they would have gotten this far, he was probably crapping his pants during the playoffs. Of course she had to say yes to him if he asks her in front of the whole world!!!
What a tool.

Regarding Sykora vs Friesen, here are their stats:
Sykora reg season 34G, 25A, 59pts
Sykora playoffs 4G, 9A, 13pts
Friesen reg season 23G, 28A, 51pts
Friesen playoffs 10G, 4A, 14pts

Fairly close on points, Friesen really came on at the end of the playoffs. He's very talented but has been inconsistent throughout his career; we'll see how he does going forward. I think the Devils got Tverdovsky too in that deal, though...

I do think Scott won the battle of the Niedermayer brothers - no surprise there.

One thing people forget of that deal was that Anaheim got JF Damphousse, probably one of the better goalie prospects in the league. They have Giguere obviously, but Damphousse is going to make either a great backup or great trade bait.

The problem with Damphousse is that when is he going to make the NHL?
He's been in the minors for a long time, even though he's played a handful of NHL games.

There's two good reasons for that though.

1) He's always had a Vezina-caliber NHL starter in front of him.

and

2) The teams that own him haven't wanted to give him a year's worth of service time just to be a backup. Any chump can back up Brodeur or Giguere. Taking a year of service from him would reduce his trade value.

So its not really fair to say he hasn't made the NHL yet. I think if he was on Atlanta or Columbus, for example, he'd be their #1 by now.

JF Damphousse is a Calgary Flame.
Traded for Neidermayer.
