no, don't trade macinnis.. it's hard to find a solid D-men
let the goalie situation pan out.. cujo will be traded
I bet the wings play cujo alot the first few months of the season to display cujo for a trade... no worries :)

Cechmanek will be lucky to get 20 wins this season. Why would you want him and give up your top D? Trade Ohlund + forward for Cechmanek or Morris for Cechmanek + something.

I agree--you don't want to trade away a top D, since there aren't a lot of consistent, scoring defensemen.

CuJo has been left unprotected in the waiver draft a la Osgood. Osgood ended up with NYI and did pretty well. I wouldn't be surprised to see CuJo end up with a good team. And even if he ends up on a bad team, he'll still be a top 10 goalie, IMO. At least wait until after Friday before making any moves with CuJo. As for Cechmanek, he's certainly good for more than 20 wins. If LOS can keep Allison, Deadmarsh, Palffy, Robitaille, and Stumpel healthy, they'll be dangerous and Cechmanek should post over 30 wins. I think his biggest hit will be in GAA. I figure he's good for about 30 wins, 2.30 GAA, and a .920 Sv%, but that's still not worth MacInnis to me.

I actually think its a fair deal, but top defensemen are ultra-rare. I'd rather stuggle to find a waiver-wire goalie then to find a ww D. All it takes is one starting goalie to go down somewhere (especially on a winning team) and voila, their backup becomes a good short-term pickup. Also, Cujo IS going to play, its just a matter of time. When that time comes, do you want to have 3 goalies and 1 stud D, or 2 of each?

What team needs, and can afford, an $8 million goalie in the waiver draft coming off of a 1st round playoff loss and ankle surgery?

He'll get traded at some point but I doubt he gets claimed in the waiver draft.

Agreed, that price tag is too steep for a guy coming off an injury and poor playoff performance. If a contender loses their #1 for any extended period of time though, Joseph would make the ideal replacement. So we'll probably have to wait for the 1st serious goalie injury.

I didn't say he would be claimed. I said it wouldn't surprise me if he got claimed and that's why I would at least wait until Friday before making any moves with him if you own him. If you moved him and then he got claimed by COL (see below), you would probably kick yourself a thousand times before you considered stopping. Personally, if I were a GM, I wouldn't claim him. However, it wouldn't surprise me to see a team like COL, who has deep pockets and a questionable goalie situation, claim him. As for his ankle surgery, it sounds bad when you say "ankle surgery," but realistically he just had a bone chip removed. Sure it's still considered ankle surgery, but it's not quite like the ankle was broken and he had to have surgery to have it set to heal. By all accounts I've read the team physician's called it "minor in nature" so that's exactly what I would consider it. Lastly, as for DET's first-round playoff exit, let's remember that Joseph posted a 2.08 GAA in that series. Also, that was the same series that JS Giguere turned in a superhuman performance and allowed just 6 goals to the highest scoring team during the regular season. It's kind of hard for a goalie to actually win anything when his offense isn't producing anything like it normally does (3.28 goals/game). CuJo's price tag, and the impending CBA expiration, will make him an unattractive pickup, but it still woulnd't surprise me to see a team grab him. Stranger things have happened.

The Avs can use CuJo. But then again, they appear to be content with Aebischer.

As most people expected, no team (including both teams whose first three letters are COL) claimed Joseph.
