Avalanche lose Kariya indefinitely to wrist injury

According to nhl.com: "Colorado left wing Paul Kariya will be out indefinitely with a sprained right wrist, so the Avalanche acquired left wing Steve Konowalchuk in a trade with the Washington Capitals on Wednesday. Kariya was injured midway through Colorado's 4-1 lost to Boston on Tuesday night. He did not have any broken bones".

Damn, any more news on Kariya´s situation ? How long he´s out ? I don´t want to sell him yet because of schedule ;)

Apparently the Denver Post and RMN are both reporting today that Kariya will be out a "few weeks", and one of the papers mentioned that he could be out upwards of a month.

I gleaned that off a Colorado message board. Take it at face value.

Yup I jumped on the Kovalchuk bandwagon a while back... So far I've gained $590,000 off of him...and a hat trick tonight. It doesn't get much better.

Kariya was not put on IR. You gotta figure if he was gonna be out for a bit, they'd put him there to free up a roster spot. If a player gets put on IR, it's a minimum of seven days.

Well it's not like they need an extra spot really. If they have nobody they plan to move up there's no real reason to put him on the IR. With the 23 man roster you can have 2 extra forwards basically. So with Kariya injured that's one extra forward which I guess they feel is enough. Who knows...maybe he makes a miracle comeback.

Silentz...you are right

"Colorado Avalanche: Avs left wing Paul Kariya may be back on the ice sooner than originally expected.

The Denver Post reports that Kariya, originally expected to miss a few weeks wtih a sprained right wrist, was not placed on the injured reserve after further medical evaluations showed the wrist is not as badly injured as first believed.

Kariya, who would have had to sit out a minimum of seven games if placed on the injured reserve, could now return to the Avs lineup as soon as late next week.

The injury ended Kariya's consecutive game streak, the ninth longest in the NHL, at 290 games.
