0 Subject: Ultimate trades Week of Dec. 17th

I will be getting into Nash from Bertuzzi, and putting that cash into my goalie slot when I want to go Kiprusoff to Aebischer. Will also have money to upgrade a D-man; looking at Brian Leetch.

Anyone else care to divulge their plans?

I just went back in to Sundin x3 from Savard, and Cammerilli > Sakic x2.

Also went into Sakic, from Savard. Finally hopped on Kiprusoff, even though it may be a bit late. Used the extra cash to grab Pronger on D from Jillson.

Lacking Souray (aaargh!, but I noticed that about 40% of the ESD gurupie rosters were without him for last night's game)...

Pitkanen --> Souray
Savard --> Weight (better not groin out on my again, Doug)

I would have gone to either Sundin or Sakic, but the funds were not there...

A tale of two defensemen: Pitkanen benched for last night's game, and Souray gets a hattie plus an assist. I am not sure if this is accurate, but was the last d-man hat-trick completed Al MacInnis almost 3 years ago? Either way, a defenseman getting a hattie is unreal.

The funny thing walk is that he's had 3 other chances this year for the hatty, that I kept feeling it was only a matter of time before he got one. All three of his 2-goal games had great chances for a 3rd goal. Montreal has nobody else on the point on the PP to shoot, they've even resorted to putting Koivu there now beside him to pass it to him. He's had 6 games with 5 or more shots, and in two games (8 and 11) he got at least half as many shots as the opposition did all GAME.

And yet I still did not have him (remember, it's all about me, you see ;-).

I knew he was scoring intermittently with these 2-goal games, but did not acquire him during the Zidlicky dance of a month ago as I went to the cheaper Suchy instead. Sushy or Souray? Dang, wrong one! And then I did not want to use a valuable trade to gain some money, but not likely a lot, to acquire a cheapie D-man. Well, it turns out this cheapie D-man is playing and scoring like a stud D-man, perhaps due to the thin-ness of the Montreal PP blue-line attack, but suffice to say, I at least hopped on board today. There was no holding back anymore, particularly with Jani Pitkanen being benched last night and a 3-day break coming up for most teams thereby affording all us with some trade conservation opportunities.

181 for a D-man is unheard of...And I had Brodeur, Hossa and Tkachuk, too! Of course, my colleague and wise manager-friend bookie had all of the above, and Souray, as some others, and scored well over 600 last night. Quite nice. Not moi.

No...

When do price updates happen?

Beginning on Thursday, October 9th, prices for players are updated based upon the previous day of trading activity every day at 12pm EST. The only exception to this will be the Christmas break (12/24-12/25) and the All-Star break (2/6-2/9), as there are no games on these days.

Yeah walk, as someone who only joined the Kiprusoff bandwagon today I know what its like to miss out on a great deal. :( Here's hoping both can keep it up.

Man, when I saw Souray streaking down the left side in OT I was already jumping out of my chair, calculating what that goal would add to his totals. ;) That one goal added 92 TSNP, just like that. Still only managed a feeble 384 for the night though...

I'll be making any trades on the morning of the 24th though (or 23rd evening) since its definitely happened before where TSN forgets to turn off price changes for the two days. They've been really good this year so far, but no point taking any chances...

Smallworld: Thanks for the info.

R9: Its funny that you are going into Kiprusoff, because I just went out of him. I didn't like the 1 in 6, so I moved into Osgood on some teams and Hackett on others. We will have to se how it works out.

Well, I consider it a 3-day break. I've deleted the 24th and 25th from my schedule since nobody plays those days. From that perspective, he's got a 3-day break followed by a B2B (23rd and 26th), except he's likely to start both of those games since there's actually a 2-day gap.

If I hadn't had my hand forced by Theo's injury, I probably would've held and then just grabbed Aebischer after the break. Oh, how injuries alter plans...

I had some extra trades, so I wanted to pick up an extra couple of games. I will probably be back into Kiprosoff in a few days, but I was a bit concerned about a price drop and was also unsure about Turek's status.

Columbus failed to score on 13 powerplays. Thirteen. Thats even more absurd than a defenseman getting a hattrick. ;) They totalled 4:11 of 5-on-3 hockey, and got nothing. Very surprising considering they're the 13th best PP in the league.

Definitely makes me feel better about picking up Kippy. Besides his fabulous play, one has to assume their D did some great work too.

Red, Kippy -> Belfour is not really late considering how well Kippy has played.. sure you missed some of belfour's gains, but Kippy has been well worth the hold IMHO.. In fact, I think I'm holding him through the three days off. That Edmonton game looks too tasty to pass up...

Aren't you concerned that McLennan and Kiprusoff will split time now that McLennan is healthy? I feel that the value of both is really reduced now. But if Kiprusoff is the number 1 in Calgary, I will certainly get back in later!

I'm a little concerned about splitting time, but haven't found anything to indicate that they would be... IMO, they will keep Kippy in the #1 slot and McClennan will play maybe one of every 4 games...

IMO, Sutter really likes Kiprusoff and put a lot of effort getting him here in Calgary. McLennan is not the 1st or 1a option, regardless of his health.

Yeah, it would appear that Kiprusoff is the #1 goalie, but I do not live in Calgary nor read their newspapers regularly, but that it's access. Will keep an eye out for sure. Hard to believe the coach would change the formula that has coincided with Calgary's 10-1-1 stretch.

Agreed. As Doom alluded to, Sutter really liked Kiprusoff when he coached in SJ. So much so he went and traded for him when they had a goalie situation. Next thing you know Calgary is 10-1-1... why mess with that? Mclennan was starting to get a bit shaky after he had played 5-6 games in a row, so maybe Sutter realizes he's best used as a backup.

I held Kippy too in case you couldn't tell. ;)

Tkachuk -> Nasland.. Great schedule after Xmas, so I'll be a little early...

I still can't afford Naslund, realy starting to bother me, I'm going to need to find some money at some point.

Looks like:
Datsyuk > Lang
Tkachuk > Nagy

Down to 1 trade though, ugh.

I'm worried about Datsyuk, I don't think he is going to make it, so I just cut the losses early.

3 scenarios in this game:
1) points and money, ideal
2) money, but a wash in points....at least you get something
3) lose points and money, get nothing there, I think it's going to be scenario 3 for Datsyuk with the balance of Yzerman, Whitney, and Zetterberg back.

I hope he works out though and has a solid game vs Stl., but his ownership almost guarantees him not being able to stay in the black this week.

Hull - 90k
Tkachuk -70k
Datsyuk -60k

No "win's" here, but whatever. I moved Hull and Tkachuk. Hunter, Hossa and Lang all made more money for me than Hull lost, so I'll take it.

You are forgetting the 4th scenario. Lose money but gain points (think Savard).
Interesting that some of you are going into Lang. I'm thinking of going Lang->Spezza after tonight. Looks like Spezza's going to be the next big money train and it frees up money for me to get Naslund.

Actually, no I'm not forgetting the 4th scenario. You "may" have that situation, but if you are trading into players with similar skill/opportunity/etc. you are not going to strike out that often. Sometimes you will, but the majority of the time, you will not, and you always get the RV. Just my thoughts, but if you think Savard and Datsyuk (for example) will be the number 1 and 2 center the rest of the year, then that's a great hold. They may, but it's not a guarantee by any means, I'd like to have more money and more options later.

If you're going to trade a player due to bad performance for example, why would you trade the guy with not much ownership over a guy with the heavy burden of a large ownership. Just some thoughts, but every case is different I guess.

I could have gone Datsyuk -> Lang, but chose to hold, because the guy I really want is Sakic, so after Datsyuk loses money today and a little more tomorrow (but I get the game, hopefully a good one), I'll go to Sakic on the 23rd, so that I have him for their glut of games starting right after the Xmas break....

Woke up too late to move anyone, but Hull/Datsyuk were probable holds for me anyway. I'll wait to hear about Tckachuk, and if he's a no-go I can move to Hossa for at least his next 3 games. If he has to go after that, fine.

I went Tkachuk->Hossa but then ran out of trades. Still holding Draper and now I see Visnovsky has come up with a concussion. The next couple of days, until trades are refreshed, could get ugly.

I regret making the move from Naslund into Tachuk. It did allow me to pick Pronger up but put me into a trade bind. One of these days, I'll learn to hold a few trades for the end of the trading week. Sunday thru Wednesday trading is where most of the money can be made or lost.

Can't win them all. I was almost sure that Lang's 84 would be stronger than anything Datsyuk was going to put up yesterday with all of that balance on Detroit now, but he still came through and beat Lang.

I have both, and think both are great options, you can't really go wrong either way on paper.

I was just chatting with Walk and mentioned to him that, as well as I've been doing thus far this year, I have not had Lang on my roster all season, as I didn't believe he would keep up the pace....... I figure if I get him, he'll surely go cold, but what the hey, how can you not have the top scorer in the NHL on your roster...

Oh and If I beat you by 8 points this year... It's because I held Datsyuk and didn't go to Lang 2 days ago ;->

I just realized that our lead has vanished. Dr. Doom said it looked like a Thrasher push that catapulted them. We need to get on the ball there.

I got Nasland out of the Tkachuk injury, I was really hoping for a huge one last night, knowing that not a lot of people have him yet....

Also given the point in the season, I'd choose the -8 points and the +190k too, but either way I'll be fine... I need +360 today to break the 70 mill barrier... I never thought I'd have this much cash by Xmas....

As for the ESDNHL'ers.. I have no doubt that you guys will win top division honors.. The Euro league has some solid managers, but their is too much depth in the ESDNHL....
