Looks like a good deal for both sides, considering their respective economics. Maybe Carter will turn up his production in Washington, or maybe he's on his way out too.
Looks like the start of a firesale for Washington, although I can't say I blame them. Strip down and rebuild, best thing they could do. Bondra, Lang, Gonchar, Kolzig, Carter... I'm sure these guys could land them some decent prospects or draft picks.

I can see Kolzig going to Philly, (can Atlanta afford him?), maybe Colorado at the deadline for the playoffs

at this point in his career, isnt Kolzig pretty equal to Pasi Nurminen?????
No thanks!!! Thrashers need another scorer (Heatley will help, but who knows what he can possibly contribute!!) or some defense!

Can someone tell me the difference between the NY Rangers and the NY Yankees? Why does one win with all the money it spends, and one just keep losing?

Chemistry -- the yankees of the 90s were very good at assembling teams that meshed; the rangers are not.

From nytimes.com: "Have you ever seen an All-Star team play defense?" That was the rhetorical question asked by one member of the defending Stanley Cup champion Devils during last season's playoff run, when it was observed that the Rangers always seem to field an All-Star roster but have rarely achieved success. And that, concluded the Devils' player, who requested anonymity, was the main reason the Rangers have not qualified for the playoffs for a franchise-record six consecutive seasons, despite all their stars.

It's absolutely mind blowing that a team can trade for arguably the most talented player in the whole league and lose 9 - 1. Nine to freakin' one!!! It's unbelievable! Mind blowing! Shocking! I don't know what Jarred would do if he was owner but I think I might either fire the coach or the GM. It's a disgrace.
That all being said, there's no doubt they will make the playoffs, 'cause how can they not?!?!?!?!?!? Look at the talent in the Ranger's line up, then look at talent on The Habs, the Lightning, the Panthers, et all. A chimp could coach these guys to the playoffs.
Gotta say..... I love it!

Not only does their current plan not work, but they're stuck with it for years since half those stars have big, long-term deals that nobody else will be willing to trade for.

No, they will not make the playoffs. I watch them almost every game: the rangers are slow, old, and lack chemistry and tenacity. They do not play hard, and they do not play fast -- they are inconsistent game to game, and their defense is riddled with injuries. The goaltending is also weak. Sather will be gone at season's end or sooner.

I agree your opinions. Might be a bit risky (in basic hockey, not so many days left this game anymore and we´re not buying trades) but I was thinking maybe to pick up Jagr. Nice sched anyway and If he will score... There is so much good options right now and I hope I pick the right guy :)
