0 Subject: Biz Trip to Montreal - Suggestions?

Looks like I'm going to be headed on a business trip (conference) to Montreal from April 15-20. Outside of hoping that the Canadiens make the playoffs, happen to host a playoff game during that time period, and I manage to get tickets (is scalping legal in Montreal?), what else should I check out while I'm in the city?

Also, what's the weather usually like around that time of year? I imagine it's still a touch on the chilly side, but how chilly?

And any other suggestions are welcome and appreciated. :)

KKB- It will be brisk...by that time, your days should be fine, with your nights probably will need a sweater.

As for things to do. Well, Montreal has quite a reputation for it's nightlife. I'm sure if any of your colleagues have been to Montreal before, they will show you the great places.

If you are a gambler at all, check out the casino. (Casino de Montreal). Gambling is one universal language....no need to learn what "hit me" means in french.

I have to say, check out one of the strip joints. I mean, you can basically close your eyes and guess, and you will end up having a fun evening. It's just worth it to see how extravagent they do things.

Scalping is certainly not legal in Montreal, but if you manage to make it into the Bell Centre w/o being approached 5 times by people scalping I would be quite suprised.

Sitting in the Red's is quite a pleasure for sure, but you'll find that almost every seat in the house is fun to watch from. The crowd is one of the best in the NHL too! You may wanna learn the lyrics to Ole. <-Montrealer's favorite hockey song. :)

The Casino is kinda off the Island, so unless you're renting a car, I wouldn't spend cab fair to get there.

The nightlife certainly booms too. Bars normally close at 3AM if they close at all. The english preppy crew go to Crescent Street, where you'll find "New Town" (Jacques Villeneuve's Restaurant/Bar). People into the more Alternative Rock Scene go to St-Laurent Street, where you'll find a mix of anglo's and french.

We also have an area called "The Village", but I'll let someone else explain that to you.

Don't worry, we have scalpers at Olympic Stadium for the Expos game. For the price, I don't think you will pay more than 150% the retail price.

Anyway forget NHL and go for semi-Pro Hockey, that's the real stuff here with real people. Regular season end on February 29th and the four playoffs rounds should go thru end of April.

If you're lucky, you could be there for the Western finals (Montreal Area) and if you get Verdun-Laval you hit the jackpot.

If you're not lucky, you'll be there for the finals between Montreal and a rest of Quebec team. Quebec-Verdun/Laval will be the best matchups.

All this for the price of a lap dance.
