Subject: Help SW get to #1

OK guys SW has given me the keys to Porche, so we have to win the race.. He's given me some solid ideas on how to use the final trades, but not a definitive plan, so I'm looking for ideas from the best minds in fantasy sports. check his team and tell me what you think we should do. |

Save one trade for Biron >> Turco. Mason will get the start against Colorado if it's a meaningless game for Nashville so Vokoun >> Luongo would make sense if that happens. Colorado will probably rest Forsberg and Sakic or at least give them limited ice time if the last game is meaningless for them. Lecavalier >> Halpern is the only other possible move I see now.

Thornton is questionable for tomorrow with a rib injury. I would look at moving him.

Thanks for the input guys.. I'll keep my eye on thortnon situation....
SW wanted Kippy, but since I read that Turek would start tonight. SW's move changed to Abbey. So he went Vokuon -> Abbey.
3 trades and 225 points to make up... If Abbey comes up big tonight, it will close the gap significantly....

Devils can win division with b2b wins against boston
I found this article in today's NY Daily News and a very similar one in the NY Post. No indication in either of these two newspapers, or either of the two NJ-based papers (Bergen Record or Newark Star Ledger) if Brodeur is going to start both games to give the devils the best shot at winning the division.
My gut tells me that Brodeur surely starts today, and if the devils win, would logically start tomorrow. If the devils lose, and they get mathematically eliminated from winning their division and getting the #3 seed, then my gut tells me that the back-up will start tomorrow.
This is all speculation however.
Given this, the bottom line for us, is that an Aebischer --> Brodeur move for SW and other gurupies may be a good bet today. It's before 9am, so maybe more news will come before noon.

Another thought for all: IF the devils win today, I know that you (bookie), me and SW all have Lecavalier. We should move Vinny to GOMEZ on Sunday.
If the devils lose today and have nothing to play for on Sunday, then move Vinny to maybe WEIGHT, DEMITRA or JOKINEN.

Check that, since I have Elias, I assumed everyone had Elias. IF the devils win today, SW and bookie, you can move Vinny to ELIAS or GOMEZ.

Sorry I haven't chimed in with my thoughts, been a hectic couple days. Gomez and Elias are on fire, and Thornton will likely sit with his rib injury. I'd make the swap into Elias, and then consider using the last two trades in a goalie rotation. Aeb -> Brodeur -> ?, where ? is someone we know is starting, and has a great matchup. Nabokov maybe?

Nabokov is indeed supposed to start on Sunday. Turco is a good option, too. I think bookie told me that as his suspension will end on Sunday, the Stars would likely want to get him a start to get him primed for the playoffs.
I agree on the Thornton to Elias/Gomez move now...Joe is not likely going to play today, may not play tomorrow, and if he does play, could be ineffective or pulled. It may make good sense to have both NJ centers, Elias and Gomez starting today.

SW and oskari both have Thornton, it would seem reasonable that both make the move to Elias, this would keep the two teams identical at center. Probably the best move for today anyway.
Goalie options, Brodeur, Legace should play at home vs. Columbus, maybe Theodore against the eliminated Sabres.

Even if the Devils lose today, they can still win the division by winning tomorrow so I would expect Brodeur to start both games.

By winning tomorrow and the flyers losing tomorrow. Good point, kwizard. I have already gone Aebischer to Brodeur on my team. 1 trade left. Likely will move Lecavalier to Gomez, Weight, Demitra or Jokinen or some other center tomorrow.

108 points behind. It looks like Oskari, with both goalies expected to start tonight, and with no goalies expected to go tonight for SW, might be hard to catch tonight. Also the Boston Herald is reporting that Thornton is sitting tonight.
With this setup, I'd move Thornton into Elias (countering the most likely move that oskari will make) and Aebischer into Brodeur and pray for a Brodeur shut out while Osgood and Vokoun both have big implosions (perhaps an 8-8 tie).

That's how I'd play it, bookie. A defensive move to match the expected move by my opponent and an offensive move by picking up a great goalie. For me, today's goal would not to lose ground to oskari and retain 1 trade to move Lecavalier on Sunday. But, hockey is my weakest TSN sport, so I might not know what I'm doing.

Okay, bookie, SW is down by 57. Oskari has 7 players going today, including two goalies, and SW will have 11 of 12 folks going today once you make the Lecavalier to someone (Gomez?) move. SW has brodeur and aebischer instead of oskari's vokoun and osgood. This makes for very interesting drama.
Thoughts? Suggestions on SW's last trade?

A couple things right off... I don't think Abbey or Vokuon will play today... Nashvilles coach said if they clinch, he'll probably play the back up.. The Edmonton loss clinched the 8 spot for Nashville.... Colorado has nothing to play for.. they are 4th and no matter what happens today, they will remain 4th.... Hopefully my new favorite information site will post something early enough to be useful..

Check that. Good news for SW, but implications for us Vokoun and Osgood owners still with a trade:
Edmonton was eliminated last night with their loss to Vancouver. Nashville and St. Louis have clinched. I bet both goalies, Osgood and Vokoun are rested today.
This puts smallwhirled in a huge competitive advantage having two goalies, brodeur and aebischer, who are more likely to play (although salo might start for colorado).
For folks like me and bookie, who have 1 trade and are holding vokoun and vinny. Well, we need to decide whether to move the forward or move the goalie.

On paper, I like SW's chances. Looking at the non-duplicate players, oskari only has two going tonight (Sullivan and Osgood) while SW has 6 going (Murray, Recchi, Pronger, Gonchar, Brodeur and Aebischer) plus one trade. Looks like SW is in a good position to gain the 58 points needed to overtake oskari.
At this moment it's unclear one which goalies will actually play. If Brodeur sits, I probably pick up Turco. If Brodeur plays, I'd go out and grab a center by moving Lecavalier. My short list would include Gomez, Federov, Weight or Demitra.

I would vote for Abby-->Turco/Luongo (if he's playing)
I just dont really like the options at center.
I really like SW's chances, but I noticed the guy in 3rd place isn't too far off, so maybe getting Gomez would better to block him off a little?

Any news on Raycroft (picked him up instead of Brodeur yesterday) and if he'll start. Boston has a lot to play for as does NJ so I can see both starting. If Nabokov starts I will definitely grab him over Turco I think.

According to hockey insider a few days ago, Nabokov should start today. He does have a good match-up, he's hot, and the sharks are good at home.
I see no way that brodeur does NOT start today. If the devils win, they auto win their division and get the #3 seed -- even if the flyers win against the nothing-to-play-for Isles. Brodeur has got to start because if the devils lose, and the flyers win, the flyers win the division. Burns will not risk losing the division to rest Brodeur, who is historically a workhorse and never seems to get injured.
Nabokov or Turco for Aebischer seem like more probable alternatives, but if Aebischer plays, then it's a bust move because we all DEFINITELY know that Lecavalier is NOT going to play (TB is idle). So, the safest move seems to be moving Vinny to either Gomez, Federov, Weight, Demitra or some other center. Gomez is clearly the hottest. However, is the safest move in terms of playing time the best move? Given that SW has so many more players going today, I would think that the forward move may be the better bet, but I can also see the goalie move instead.
Bookie usually does things between 11 and noon, and will likely be on this forum soon enough. However, with daylight savings time, the mofo may be a little late. Then again, today is very big, and he knows it, and he'll be here soon for sure. He's likely scouring the net doing research.

Funny, Dr. Doom. Cool, glad someone's got SW covered. I just called bookie on his mobile and it went to voicemail, and I was like: "this is not happening..."
anyway, cool. I moved Vokoun to Turco on Bookie's team and took more of a chance on my team by moving Lecavalier to Gomez. Here's rooting for offense over goaltending today.
Let us know what you do for SW Doom. It's either moving Aebischer to Turco, Luongo, or Nabokov or moving Vinny L. to Gomez or some other center.

Sullivan hit te post on a breakaway. Not that is mattered because Stuart scored a couple of goals to get Nabakov the win. But then I almost got cauyght by the guy in 3rd place.
Sullivan would've scored before SJ scored a bunch of late goals. Good thing they did. If Sullivan scores there and Nabakov doesn't get the late win, I would've lost it.
SJ scored with less than 10 seconds left

Amazing that the SJ win or more less was the deciding factor. THAT was an 11th hour call by Doom. Now, Doom would have taken Turco, but you did not have the cash (ironic, given that you never lack wealth -- I guess you spent that wad o' cash), who had +68, so that would have been a wash with Nabokov. Still, amazing show of persistence, patience (using your trades judiciously down the stretch), and taking advantage of your competitive advantage (the judicious use of your extra trades).
Exciting and compelling finish, but "ultimately," a well-earned title...as usual.

Nabakov's win and Stuarts 2 goals allowed Asian Canadian to jump in front of oskari, but SJ scored so late. They were down 3-1 with not much time left in the 3rd, and Sullivan had just hit the post earlier in that period. If 3-1 would've held up, and Sullivan's shot goes in, I would've been in serious trouble.
