Games 3 and 4 of the Bruins/Canadiens series, the fans in Montreal BOOED during the singing of the American National Anthem. The same thing happened last year when these two teams met in the playoffs at Montreal. Game 5 returned to Boston and a handful of Bruin fans (maybe 50 - 100) decided they'd return the favor by BOOING Canada's National Anthem. As soon as these meathead boo-birds began to boo, the remainder of the capacity crowd (IN BOSTON mind you) drowned them out completely by cheering and applauding as loud as I have ever heard inside the Fleet Center. Fans who knew the lyrics (about half the building) sang along until the anthem was complete and continued to applaude for another thirty seconds after that. It was an incredible moment that almost brought a tear to my eye. It was as if the fans in Boston had said; "We don't appreciate their booing of our national anthem and being disrespectful. In fact, we are mad as hell about it. Despite our anger, we are not going to stoop to that level, or allow a handful of knuckleheads to embarrass us by acting that way. NOT HERE, not in OUR building." I was never more proud to be a Bostonian and an American. |

I completely agree with you and totally feel that the Montreal fans shamed Canada by stooping to that level.

Please note that it was only a few Mtl fans who were booing. Just like Boston, Montreal has its idiot fans too. Don't paint the whole city's fans with one brush.
