Goodenow reaches a settlement on the last 2 years of his contract as head of the NHLPA
NHLPA in 2004: "We'll never accept a salary cap!"
NHLPA in 2005: "A salary cap is fine and we'll take whatever you're giving us."
Yep, that'll pretty much end your reign as head of the NHLPA. |

Well, that change of attitude does make him look bad. However, I don't believe it's his sole decision on whether to accept a cap or not.
Obviously the union leader must consider the popular opinions from the players. If the players want him to settle for something quickly, then he'll have to do just that. Union leaders do work for the players, and they have to listen to them.
It just seems to me that the players got desperate and realized the inevitable. That change of attitude within the union certainly made Goodenow look very very bad.
