0 Subject: I'm tired of all the intra-division games already.

Less than 2 weeks into the season, I've watched like 5 or 6 games among the Leafs, the Habs and the Sens. And then all these among the Canucks, Oilers and Flames.

So they try to decrease the travelling, but 8 games against the same teams and then 0 against most from the other conference is ridiculous.

So I missed a Canucks-Flames game. Ho hum. There's always the next one in like 2 weeks. What hurts is that we don't get to see the Stanley Cup Champions.

People say this promotes rivalries. Well, rivalries die (or at least cool down) if it gets stale.

Heck, all I'm seeing here is that the Canadian teams are killing off each other and trying to stop each other from making the playoffs. Sure, when the Canadians could benefit each other if they are all weak, but right now they are all good and intra-Canadian games are preventing each team from getting 2 points out of every game.

Summary: The new intra-division-heavy schedule is boring.

I suppose I see your point, but I'll take Leafs and Sens over Leafs and Islanders anyday of the week :-).

Don't you remember that War of Attrition between the Leafs and Islanders a few seasons ago???

Seriously, I'd rather give up Leaf-Sens game to have them play other teams so that both teams can win more games than they ever can right now. I don't want to have any teams miss the playoffs by a point or two just because they lost one extra game against another Canadian team.

I wouldn't mind giving up 1 game per division team so we can play vs. every team at least once. Seven games is enough to create and maintain rivalries imho.

It's not all about creating rivalries. They want to make every game seem like a playoff game. Everytime you play a divisional rival, there is potentially a 4 point swing. Which is huge. So they want games in October to mean as much as they do in April. Which makes sense considering their whole agenda is to try and make hockey more exciting for the fans. Even fans can grasp the intensity and importance of a divisional rival team even in October.

It's exactly the 4-point swings that I don't want. For example, instead of having both Calgary and Edmonton having a chance (and the ability) to get 2 points each tonight, only 1 team will get 2 points and at most 1 point for the losing team, which was not the case.

It's a conspiracy against Canadian team, I'd say. Instead of having all 6 teams in the playoffs, there are bound to be a team in each conference that misses the playoffs because the other Canadian teams killed them off in intra-division games, or worse yet, two teams kill off each other and miss the playoffs by a point or two, all in the name of rivalry.

I don't know how things are like in the Florida, New York or Pennsilvania area, but the current system is making it harder for all of their teams to make the playoffs in the same season. But if the NHL wants geographical diversification in the playoffs, I suppose this is going to work for them.

Also, if every regular season game is like a playoff game, then what's so special about making the playoffs?

You yourself might not like the 4 point swing, but this is what most fans find exciting and thus "playoff atmosphere". One could use your arguement and say they don't like playoff's either. "One team has to be eliminated, I don't like that. I want the opportunity for both teams to move onto the next round".

Do you really want me to answer your last question? If so than you cannot win the stanley cup by winning regular season games. You can however win it by winning playoff games. You have to make it into the playoffs for a chance to win the cup. Which is why we play the regular season.

It's a conspiracy against Canadian team but it is create by Canadians. It helping us having more expenses in $CDN, for players less travelling across border and face it HNIC the big sponsor of the NHL wants battle of Alberta / Ontario every week-end and they get it.

It makes it less likely to have 6 Canadians teams in the playoff but less likely to have no Canadian team in the playoff.

I don't care about southern US hockey teams, for me the NHL should be reduce to the original six, Philly, Minnesota, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton.

Naturally it's supposed to read "original six PLUS Philly, Minnesota, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton".

Agreed, that would make for a good league.

In a 5 game span starting this week, Detroit plays only 2 teams. Columbus twice in a row, and then Chicago 3 times in a row. How often did THAT happen in the old NHL? Is this hockey or baseball?

If you were a real hockey fan, you would not be complaining but acting as though you were thankful that we have the game back. Stop crying and watch the Buffalo Sabres trash Philly. Maybe you should move to Buffalo and find out what a real hockey fan is like!!!

Why wouldn't the game be back? The game has to be back. The players won't let the game die, you know. They have way too much interest in the huge sums of money that they would lose if they let the game die, and there is simply no substitute for the NHL. No other leagues in the world would pay them this much money to play hockey. In other words, the owners had the leverage, and the players could never win, which was the case, as the salary cap was put in place.

Thankful? Why should a hockey fan be thankful, when they should be cursing for the loss of the 2004-05 season? We were never in danger of losing the game, but we did lose a season, and nobody, I mean NOBODY, benefitted from the lockout, from the owners, to the players, to the fans, to the employees who got downsized and to those who work part-time during the games.

As for the Buffalo fans, I'm sure it's a big party there cuz you guys don't get to watch playoff games live often. It's the first time in 5 years, ya know. Good for you. Enjoy it while you still can, cuz you know all those young players you have, they are all going to ask for like 300% pay raise when their contracts expire.

And while I'm posting in this topic, I'll have to point out how the Toronto Maple Leafs missed the playoffs. They might have had a better chance to make up those couple of points if they played their division a dozen fewer times and for the Tampa Bay Lightning play their division a dozen fewer times.

Stop crying? Give me a break. Of course we're glad that hockey is back. I think we all like most of the changes introduced this year. But an intelligent fan will see the negative things as well as the positive, and they are a legitimate topic of discussion.

And let us not fail to note that you picked one of the very few negative threads out of a sea of positive ones. In fact look how far back you had to look to FIND a negative one... this thread was dead for SIX MONTHS before you resurrected it with your brilliant post.

[SARCASM ON] yeah, you showed US. We're not real hockey fans. [/SARCASM OFF]

There are a few things I don't like about the new NHL, but still, these playoffs have been amazing!

I was starting to wonder if the 2nd round would be all 4-0 series. Great games though.
