Automated all this so it will start the pull the data at 8:00 AM PST for previous days rosters. At 11:00 AM PST (+/- a minute) it update the website with that information.

http://rsf.hopto.org/hockey_ownership.htm

Good Luck. Let me know if it craps out at any point, as I don't play the game and won't be checking the data.

Damn...noticed the price stuff and next game is still the previous days. I wonder if its my query into my database and not the data I'm grabbing. Have to look at that this weekend.

Thanks RSF - this is an awesome tool. Will this be archived at all or will it overwrite each day?

The data is archived (still in the database), but the webpage is overwritten. Maybe I'll look at archiving the page by appending a "_MMDDYYY", like todays would be renamed "hockey_ownership_10212005.htm". I'll look into that later tonight or this weekend. Should be simple enough.

Easy enough. Starting tomorrow morning, you should be able to reach archives from 10/20/2005 on by changing the URL from hockey_ownership.htm to hockey_ownership_10202005.htm (or what ever date in a MMDDYYYY.htm format.)

This may seem like a dumb question, but can someone please tell me how we work this into our strategy?

I personnaly use player ownership to forecast potential money makers/losers. Heavily owned players can take a prolonged hit money wise, while players less owned are less likely to endure big money downfalls (i.e. no way was I holding Jagr past last friday, while I could hold a similar player through the same schedule who is less popular...)

I added a feature to make viewing previous results a little easier. At the top of the page will now be something like this:

<< 10/21/2005 - Today - 10/23/2005 >>

Which will allow you to manually advance forward and backward through the histories, as well as jump back to the current day quickly.

RSF, do you have data on the total number of trades used by all teams each day, and could that be included somewhere in the file? Thanks!

RSF...thanks for giving us this tool (IMHO would not hurt my feelings if it were locked to all non-Guru Patrons since the Guru provids this forum showcasing your gift and I know you to be a supporter of the Guru Patron program)

When I click on your web address...I see only the ownership link given at top of thread for the change from 10-21 to 12-22??

I do not see the:

<< 10/21/2005 - Today - 10/23/2005 >>

What am I doing wrong?

They are static pages, so I suspect you are seeing a "cached" version. Load the page again and hit "F5". It should request a "new" load of the page and get the new information.

If this is the case, you'd need to adjust your browser settings (Assuming IE):
  • Tools (menu header)
  • Internet Options... (menu item)
  • General (tab)
  • Settings... (button, in Temporary Internet Files box)
  • Every visit to the page (radio button)
  • OK buttons until you are out.

Considered locking it to only the GuruPatrons, but since this isn't a game "officially" supported by Guru (sorta is since he has a forum), I decided against it. I'm definitely a supporter and promoter of the GuruPatron plan, since he allows all of us to interact at his costs. Might as well help pay for some of that.

The Beezer, that you require logging individual teams (to get the true number) and then comparing each move individually. Currently I am just tallying the players as a total count. To get the approximate number (and a fairly accurate one, I'd think), you could just add up all the positive delta numbers. Is that what you are asking for?

Thanks for the info, RSF. No need to expend the effort to do that, thanks.

I haven't been able to get this site for three days. What is the correct link?

Use the link in post 0, since it is a dynamic IP. Since the address has changed, the link in post 13 is dead.

A couple of things happened. I was having connection problems a few days back. Wound up resetting the modem, the router and the server to get back up. In the process, some things didn't get restarted (thought I had it all set to automagic, but obviously didn't) to make all this work.

All the historical data is there.
