0 Subject: Let's predict Legace's losses!!

Light trading day and the most owned player gets injured. Hmmmm -400k was the biggest hit I remember so far this season. If that is not the max, then he could lose upwards to -500k or the max, whichever comes first. Or could we see a Griffey part 2? -600k anyone?

Oh this is only day 1. Tomorrow nite when people get their trades back.....hmmmmm another 300k I reckon, or maybe 'just' 200k.

And those who are not trading Legace because of no trades or they just don't want to better prey he plays on Thursday. Otherwise you could possibly be losing 1 mil in roster value over the course of a couple days.

I'm stuck with Legace... I went tradeless early despite the urging of my peers, and it looks like i was 2 periods away from making it through.

I'll take the hit knowing that i extracted every point from him during his incredible run, and really the money was just a bonus to begin with. Also gives me an extra day to analyze the market for a potential replacement.

$-280K day 1

I say over 400k. Grahame could've cemented his status as top option with a decent game tonight, instead he goes negative. Ah well, time to find a replacement...

The perfect storm...

Yesterday, went Hasek => Graham with my last trade, with the news Hasek wasnt playing Buffalo.

Legace gets injured.
Jackman doesnt play.

In the article the trainer says it's nothing serious and has cleared him to play Thursday. Babcock is quoted as saying in the article that Legace will start Thursday. I'm not convinced that he'll start Thursday. I wouldn't be surprised if they waited till Saturday, but either way it sounds like Legace is fine.

Still not sure what I want to do.

Yeah, Die_Habs, I read the same article. My gut tells me that he's not going to play on Thursday because the early season risk/reward ratio is just not there. I'd go further and say it'd be a bonehead decision for the coach to play Legace with a tweaked knee when he can play another (very competent) goalie in his place, only 13 games into the season. Maybe Osgood's injury is not 100%, but I doubt that...

I think the guiding light here is less about the extent of Legace's injury and more about a short-term but high magnitude money-making opportunity. Over the next 2-3 days, there could be as much as a million dollar swing with the sale of Legace and the buy of someone else like Osgood or Auld or whomever. That trade seems worthwhile to me...I don't know if I want to go right back to Legace upon making this move, but cannot see holding onto him knowing he might lose the proverbial $400k we've seen already in some daily hits in this game thus far this year...

Not sure of what urkel? To trade or not to trade...? This is a no-brainer trade. If you have a trade in the bank...many don't, but if you do (I have 2 on one team and 1 on another), I'd make the trade in a heart-beat...way too much $ at stake not to make the trade, IMO.

Yes yes SELL him so I can finally buy him at a lower price come weekend! This is a no-brainer if you consider my situation (as you should).

I read this morning that Cloutier will be out at least 3 game, which give the some time to figure out what is going to happend with Legace...

I personnally have Kippy and Graham, after last night I'm thinking of selling Graham for Auld...

Here is the source on Cloutier :

Dan Cloutier - G - Canucks

The Canucks have confirmed that Dan Cloutier will miss the team's next three games due to the concussion he sustained in Saturday's loss to Colorado.
Reserve Cloutier immediately if you have not already done so. Vancouver plans to recall Rob McVicar from Manitoba to backup Alex Auld for the next week or so. The team would have promoted Wade Flaherty however, the veteran goaltender would have to clear waivers upon his return to the AHL and the Canucks did not want to risk losing him to another NHL team. Die_Habs, I'd likely move to Auld, the Canuck's back-up based on his price (sub-$1M), team (8-2 and very good), and schedule (two home games and then two away at Calgary). I think Labarbera is another option for LA...if you want to go cheap. If you want to obtain someone more proven and established, then there's several options.

walk, actually I don't have him on my ultimate teams, oddly enough. I have him on my Basic team in a no-buying trades league that I spend a lot more time on than my ultimate teams (just because it's with friends and co-workers). I've foolishly left myself with only one trade left so I think I'm going to just stick with him since trades are so much harder to come by in Basic, and I plan on holding him for a long long time.

If I had him on my ultimate teams I'd definitely trade him, and then pick him up again later once he played a game and showed no ill effects. I imagine there will be some nice money gains to be made there.

Red Wings goaltender Manny Legace, who left Tuesday night’s game because of a sprained left knee, is expected to be out of action for a few days but his injury is not thought to be serious.

Legace, who was selected the NHL’s defensive player of the month after going 10-1 in October, left Tuesday’s game with Chicago in the first period. Wings defenseman Jiri Fischer and Blackhawk Matthew Barnaby were in front of the net, and Barnaby lost his balance and collapsed onto Legace, who fell backward, his left knee tucked beneath him. While he lay on the ice, Fischer and Barnaby exchanged punches.

Legace practiced with the team Wednesday afternoon. The Wings said he would not play Thursday night against Edmonton at Joe Louis Arena, and Legace said he would miss the next couple games.

The Wings play Saturday at home against Phoenix and Sunday at St. Louis. Goaltender Jimmy Howard was called up from Grand Rapids to back up Chris Osgood.

Rookie defenseman Brett Lebda was sent to Grand Rapids to make room on the 23-man roster. Defenseman Mathieu Schneider (groin) is expected to play Thursday night.

.....Punchline: Knee injuries, especially for goalies are no laughing matter. I was watching the game, and even if he was really over-reacting when Barnaby ran into him, it looked like he was in a lot of pain. The replay looks like his knee buckled to the inside. Even if an MRI comes up negative, there is still bound to be a little bit of damage, and they need to be cautious of him.

Sell him if you have a trade.

Good update thanks...another shot in my arm with Lebda being sent down...I've had this guy, who has played only 4 games since day 1. I just won't burn the trade to upgrade once I have the luxury...which needs to be soon!

-450K today and -300K tomorrow since there will be more total trades happening. Not that I've ever been right before on this anyway...

It really couldn't have happened on a better day. There's no other planned trades going on either, so Legace just might be involved in over 90-95% of all trades.

that's insane. I've never heard of a price change anywhere near that big, that's crazy!

I will never, ever be caught without trades even on a Tuesday, that is just brutal.

Even in Basic he went down 380k. Unbelievable.

And there's going to be more downward price movement tomorrow as people get their trades. One thing I wonder... How many people went from Legace to Miller? Probably not many, but that would have to suck...

oh yeah, forgot to mention, I moved Legace => Lundqvist on my Basic team.

I screwed up and didn't check the news before the LA game started... and found out that Weekes is expected to start tomorrow. But then the LA game had started and it was too late to take LaBarbera. Oh well, important thing was that I escaped the good ship Titanic.

:)

BTW thanks for knocking some sense into me, Walk!

the fact this happened the day before we get out trades (Wed is often the slowest trading day) impacted his loss greater then normal. Unless all of those that sold him buy him back on a similar slow day there is no way he can hit that 6m mark again.

Suprising his price didn't drop a lot. My rv actually increased by 200k. Probably because it was an active trading day 445mgrs dropped him and he only dropped 190k. I can't see him dropping by more than another 150k tops.

Jagr will bear the brunt of the losses, but Manny should be a clear second, 150ish sounds about right.
