Subject: Alright, I've had it with the stupid schedule!

I'm so tired of seeing my Canucks play the Avs now. It's just a horrible idea. The players are so selfish to a point that they are willing to damage their own team's record so that they can reduce some ravel time.
I miss those games against the Eastern Conference teams. Too bad I only get to watch like 5 or 10 of them each season from now on.
When baseball introduced interleague play to give the fans some variety, the NHL is trying to bore us off by doing the opposite. What were they thinking? |

I can certainly see it depending on weather you like the teams in your division or not. Personally, getting to see my Habs play the Laffs, Sens and Bruins 9 times a year each is great. Every Mtl/Tor game is a cause for throwing a party. :)

I agree, the schedule is just ridiculous... Out here in Vancouver well be able to count the number of times we see Sidney Crosby at GM Place on one hand before his career is likely over...

You might be throwing parties in the regular season, but just wait till a couple of the Canadian teams miss the playoff by a point or two and that's cuz they played another Canadian team one time too much.

Maybe they will make the playoffs because they played another Canadian team one time too much. You seem to imply that Canadian teams are superior to US teams in genereal and that by playing each other more often, they will allow some US teams so squeeze by in the playoffs. What about the opposite? With lesser quality Canadian teams playing each other more often, this could allow one of them the opportunity of making the playoffs instead of an American team.

The Oilers play the Avs, Nucks & Flames the same amount of times Nashville plays Chicago, Columbus & St. Louis.
Seriously. It's SO wrong...

Right now, Canadian teams are probably better on average than the average American team. However, the situation can be reversed pretty rapidly. About 10 years ago, only two canadian teams made the playoffs out of 8 (including Quebec and Winnipeg).

With unbalanced schedules, I think it'd be preferable to make the 8 playoff seeds in each conference the top two teams in each division (seeded 1-3 and 4-6 respectively), plus the next two teams with the highest point total. That reduces the penalty for teams playing in a tough division by ensuring at least two will make the playoffs.
Having said that, I'd rather each team played their division 5 times each, conference 3 times, and the other conference twice. 80 games total, season ticket holders see every team at least once, and it's fairly balanced.

I hate this too. I am in Calgary and we do get to see the Sens once and one other Eastern team, but thats it. Wish the Leafs could come to town
