The US Womens Hockey Team lost to a bunch of high schoolers. No word if Bobby Riggs was in attendance. |

I saw the article and have had some time to think of my response and....
Should we have really expected a different outcome?
Who even knows how good this high school team really is?
I do however feel bad about the negative image this portrays for womens hockey and womens sports in general.

I would have expected a much different outcome. I did a search, and the high school team is 7-2-1, but in class A, not AA or AAA.
Granted the high school kids were probably treating this as the biggest game of their lives, but I am still pretty shocked that a national olympic team is defeated by a class A high school team. If it was a Class A City League, that would be one thing, but this is Class A High School.

"About 1,500 people turned out for the exhibition game, which was non-checking."
Thats like asking the Olympic Basketball team not to do any slam dunks. A big part of any professional game obviously.

R9 - I don't believe Womens hockey has checking in it, therefore they were playing under there own rules and your analogy only means it would have been more difficult for the high school team instead of the womens team.

I believe you are right about no checking in the womens game. Another account of game.
Also Warroad is in the "Hockey Hotbed" of Minnesota, with three Olympic gold medalists calling Warroad home.

According to that article, the Canadian team plays AAA Midget teams and currently sports a losing record in that league.

Canada's national women's team, the defending Olympics champion, regularly plays boys' Midget AAA teams in the Alberta Midget Hockey League. It is 7-8-2 in that league with five games left before the Olympics.
Midget Age is 16 and under I believe.

Or not so obviously. ;) Guess I was wrong, I thought women's olympic games were full checking. Shows you how many of these games I've actually watched...

I think there are a few boys high school basketball teams in America that could defeat the Women US Olympic gold metal winners.
I am just very impressed that the US team would travel to Warroad, one of the coldest, most isolated hamlets in the lower forty eight.

One of my roomates at school played very competitive High school soccer in Alabama, he says the US womens soccer team which dominates in world cup play, practices against boys high school teams and loses not all the time but does lose. Just some insight into the fact that its not just hockey.
