Damn, having been on autopilot since failing to pull the "Gagne to Kovalchuk" -move and losing about 1 million points in the meantime, I'm totally at loss in regards to "where now" with my team. Well, I have 15 trades in the bank and only 2 injured guys (Spezza and Timonen) on the roster... Still, it's not looking good at all. Damn.

being in europa for a week is really screwing me up. I now have some understanding how difficult managing a team from across the pond is. No highlights, no news, just boxscores. ouch. I had a horrible sunday and monday - I could not connect to any internet to make any trades and suffered rv losses. I wasn't willing to shell out the $10 for 20 minutes of internet time at a public kiosk.
Tonight my itchy trigger finger moved Sullivan into Alfie. I'll get a short term gain in games. They've also got a couple of games against Toronto and they've owned Toronto this year. I hope it can continue. We'll see how my goalies do tonight. If they stink it up i'll consider moving them.
Still a couple of million shy of being in a favourable position RV wise. No way i can win ESDNHL...so i might as well gun for a top 10 finish. Look out Beezer, Doom, r9, littlem, here i come.

Ya think?
I think you have one of the most interesting teams out there right now. Going on auto-pilot may have been a blessing in disguise. If you get lucky using the trades right, you can fly by everybody.
I've been using trades like wildfire and have only put about 6 or 700 points on you since you left.
72 mil is still doable. While you aren't in the upper echelon anymore, Naslund, Iginla, and St. Louis still suck this year.
It's gonna be interesting. I'm waiting for another run. My last good run stopped a week ago, so when my next one comes, hopefully, I can get a push to the top 5.

I'm hoping to start my run now too, and still have some trades banked. Would like to be top 100 very soon, or else it'll be too late to make a top 20 run.

lol, sw, you're right! I shouldn't complain-it could be worse. Just a different perspective over here. And as usual you are doing a fantastic job in managing your team. --- I'm just going to fight it out for to a top 10 finish in esdnhl. :) but then again a top 10 could translate into a top 100 overall finish. --- Truly amazing how well you guys play this game.

Still mulling.
Forsberg > Gomez/Elias Ovechkin > Nash/Stillman/Gionta
Forsberg has been unproducing for his price, the PHI to NJ move will gain a couple of games, and those Joisey guys are on fire. I do think I want to try and find a way back into Forsberg for his 2 games against PIT next week though.

After today... not sure what to do with Sully. He's got the 1 in 5, but that 1 is against PIT. Then he has a 6 in 10, including 2 against Columbus. Not sure if it's worth the RV losses to hold though.
I like Ira's Gaborik idea, he's got the 2 CHI games next week. Maybe Cheechoo.
Hopefully Crosby gets out of his little mini-slump.

Datsyuk => Gomez Ovechkin => Elias
Could have squeezed one more game out of Ovechkin, but I liked Elias $$$ opportunity and the fact he's playing Vancouver tonight. (Auld anyone?)
Looking to move Meszeros now, already have Redden and Lidstrom, not too sure about options on D. McCabe hasnt come back yet.

Well, I'm hungover, I'll post it I guess.
1) The key to winning in this game is not worrying about always getting on a hot streak. The most important part of the game is being "average" when you suck. The streaks take care of themselves, but if you don't lose ground when you suck, there is always less ground to make up...each time you get on a streak. A big part of being as I say "average when you suck" is having a lot of RV. 2) The key to making RV is not buying price gainers. Rather, it is to sell price losers. Price gainers, again, take care of themselves. Price losers do not. Except for certain examples, if you continue to hold price losers, you won't do well. Especially once you get a couple weeks into the season, it's pretty easy to buy a similar player with a better schedule that is a not a price loser.
Take all of that. Be bold on your picks, and always take the most expensive D that you can get without sacrificing trades in other places....and you'll be fine.
Kinda upset with what happened to Sullivan. I had him for so long....I picked him up so early. He was amazing for a couple of weeks then he just flat out started to suck and I traded him in the midst of a huge schedule. Big miss there.
Nittymaki was a huge miss. Not getting him was pretty costly. I missed on the Esche/Nitty situation.
Rick Nash was another recent miss. Didn't go with him becuase I missed Heatley > Nash the day it should've been done, and then I just waited on everything else. When I decided to sell wings, Nash wasn't the best option and I missed. Dude has been great and it's been costly.
Up in the air on Alfreddson. Getting Elias. Thinking of Broduer....

Dienasty: I think you're right. Funny how you can remember these things years later. For Elias it was so deeply engrained that I never even thought to check.
Went Forsberg > Gomez Ovechkin > Elias
Kariya > Elias
CC, I went Meszaros > Zubov on Wednesday. I think that's still a great move even after missing out on some RV gain.

I love how all the I told you so'ers come out after things like this happen. Whatever, sometimes you get burned by moves like this. But Ovechkin was the only viable move to Elias from this team, and to wait until today to make the move would mean missing out on a ton of cash; 240K, in this case.
And it could have just as easily gone the other way... Ovechkin missing the game (he is playing through an injury, you may recall), and Elias with the hattie. Only difference is, if you'd held Ovechkin, then you'd miss out on the points AND the money.
In the end, over the course of the season, when you're picking between guys with similar point scoring potential, the points will even out, despite a few disasters like this. The RV will not. The RV will always benefit the early trade - and if it's a quarter million per trade... that's a pretty hefty chunk of change.

Agree.
I trade people on gamedays. Most of the time I don't like doing it, but I still do it. I almost ALWAYS take the RV. Most of the time, I'm finding replacements that do not play the same day so the trade fits more like a puzzle....
But anyways, I got lucky by holding Ovechkin, I ended up doing Nagy > Elias.
Elias will be fine though, just a little cold I guess.
I kinda thought that a lot of people wouldn't have gone to Broduer....but it looks like quite a few top managers did pick him up yesterday. Ahh, the difference between the average players and the good ones I guess.

Does anybody have info on Visnovsky's injury. It says "Cervical Strain". Is he out for a while or just the one game he missed. With nearly everyone having him on their rosters this could be a significant RV drop if he's out for any length of time. I'm trying to play without buying any trades, but I'm out now, and don't know if I can afford the hit. I may have to buy 1 trade if it's bad news.

I too have Visnovksy x3, and am holding.
Also currently holding Zidlicky, just don't love the options right now. Was hoping to upgrade him to McCabe yesterday but his injury screwed up that plan. I didn't think that any of the options at D were worth using a trade on, but then I wasn't really expecting a 100K drop on him either. Ah well, I assume that I've already taken the worst of the price drop so I guess I'll hold for the moment. If Pitkanen returns Thursday and is OK for 1-2 games may go to him.

I'm also holding Visnovsky for today.
I went Zidlicky to Zubov yesterday. Only gained 2 points, but about 200k in TSND.
I'm also holding Crosby. Even with the next two days off, he still has a 5 in 8. I don't see enough of an advantage of using a trade to gain one game from Staal. Having said that, Staal will probably pick up another 200 points tonight.

I would have done the Zubov move too but I already picked him up from Meszaros on all my teams last week. Now I wish I'd gotten him from Zidlicky instead. Oh well...
Crosby trade was partly for RV reasons, I can foresee him dropping like a stone tonight, and Staal skyrocketing, particularly with the light trading day today. Also Staal seems like a very streaky player to me, and if last game was the beginning of another hot streak, I really want to ride it.

I expected a bit of a Jagr drop due to the 1 in 4, plus the "oh my god he's highly owned and he didn't score in 1 whole game" panic, but I wasn't expecting -80K, especially since his next game is against PIT. Maybe some managers have trades to burn.
Staal +180K, Crosby -190K
Wow, a 370K swing... Definitely more than I expected even on a light trading night.
Kovalchuk +110K on a night he didn't play... geez, how much is he going to go up tomorrow?
These Tuesday and Wednesday night price changes are crazy!

For those that don't know, Joelis already made point of this.
Peter Forsberg told reporters as he was leaving the arena last night, that he did not think his groin muscle injury was serious. Of course we have heard this from Forsberg before where he still needed a considerable amount of time to recover from an injury. Forsberg is usually very cautious about his injuries, so don't expect him to play in any more games this week. He will be re-evaluated today. Jan. 18

Oh well, maybe it will work out, Savard rarely disappoints. Wish I could get Kovalchuk but I have the same wingers as Caribou and I just can't justify using a trade on any of them at this point in their schedules.

I wouldn't 'waste' a trade picking up Ovechkin. His schedule doesn't offer any more games than the usual suspects (some of whom are probably on most teams).
Then again I am looking at the NJD and CBJ schedules and I notice players from that team would have to be moed next week too. So I could definately justify moving one of those players into Ovechkin.

Funny when you have to sell a guy who retired. That's got to be a smallworld first. "Fantasy owners: be forewarned to deactivate Ziggy Palffy who no longer plays the sport. His status is lifetime to lifetime."
aaar.
Nash did not make the cut on my team. I wanted Ilya no matter what, so I moved the effective Nash for the hopeful juggernaut Kovalchuk. I have Gagne, Ilya, Elias and Jagr at wings with Joe Thornton, Savard and Staal at centers.
The rub is Ottowa's home 3 in 5 starting tomorrow and if Spezza returns (which seems like a possibility given what I read in the Ottawa Sun today), then Alfredsson and Heatley become very intereting, but very short-term options. Those guys were explosive when that line was intact earlier in the year.

it's true that it wouldn't make sense to keep Nash through the 1 in 5 starting Sunday. Guess it could make sense to pick up Kovalchuk now.

Some good news out of LA?
Both Visnovsky and Garon may play tonight.
From Rotoworld:
Mathieu Garon has been cleared to play tonight. The MRI on Garon's injured shoulder revealed no damage. I'm feeling better today, but it is hard to say whether I'm going to be able to play," Garon, who has started 27 of the last 32 games, said Wednesday. Garon suffered what the Kings called a bruised left shoulder and also needed two stitches to close a cut after he caught a shot by the Lightning's Ruslan Fedotenko with 14:22 left in the first period. Garon fell to the ice but finished the period. He was replaced by Jason LaBarbera at the start of the second period. LaBarbera, who hasn't started a game since Dec. 29, would play if Garon were unable to. Jan. 19 - 7:46 am et Source: Los Angeles Times
Denis Grebeshkov has been sent to the minors. Grebeshkov is someone to keep your eye on in the future, but not now. It is expected that Lubomir Visnovsky will return to the lineup soon as there is no other reason to send Grebeshkov down at this time. Jan. 19 - 7:49 am et Source: Los Angeles Times
