I agree freak...aebisher looked great in goal. Great game, a lot of action. The Chech's had the power play for it seemed like 10 mins in the 2nd period. Goaltending and some luck won this one for the swiss.

Finland is looking great. Yet to give up a goal. They are also looking great on the Power Play. With so much skill on these teams speacial teams is going to be very important.

Wow...I am very shocked! This might be enough firepower to keep women's hockey in the Olympics, as it shows there are more than 2 countries that can compete.

One giant blip on the map for Canada. Swiss 2 Canada 0
Italy 7 Canada 6
Japan 5 Canada 2
Okay so the last 2 are curling but this is a brutal day in events that Canada should typically dominate. This is equivalent of a Canadian Soccer team beating Italy, Germany, and Brazil during the World Cup.
Switzerlands Miracle on Ice (first the Czechs and now Canada). It is a great accomplishment for the Swiss-Gerber was great. Well done. Kudos to the Italian men's curling team and the Japanese womens team as well. They deserve it.

The Swiss side looked like grannies with broomsticks in their first outing and promptly got their proverbial arses handed to them on a golden plate by the mighty Finns... Now, however, they are playing like medal-contenders behind Aebischer & Gerber's heroics. Well done. The Swedes woke up as well and are scoring at will against Latvia, 5-0 in the 2nd.

O_O <--- That's my expression.
Legendary soccer coach Sepp Herberger, who was kind of the Vince Lombardi of Germany, once said "The ball is round." I suppose the men's and women's Olympic hockey tournaments are as round as the hockey puck will ever get.

The Finns with another convincing victory, 4-2 over the strong Czech squad. Jagr suffered a head-injury 7 minutes into the 2nd period as he was boarded by Jarkko "am I annoying?" Ruutu and didn't return, but in all honesty
1.) You've got to keep your head up. The tackle wasn't pretty but it wasn't from behind, it was from the side and would of been a clean hit had Jagr not lowered his head just before the collision. As it is, he got his clock cleaned instead.
2.) You've got to wear a proper helmet. Seriously, those ancient Jofas are a joke, you could just as well go McTavish while you're at it. There's a reason they were banned by NHL.

And the Swiss tied the Germans.
That reminds me of the Canucks, who can beat Detroit on the road one night, and then lose to Columbus the next night.

The Germans, instead of the Swiss, were favoured to get in to the quarterfinals before the games started.
2 FIN - CAN 0
after the 1st period.

I think Kiprusoff is getting burned big time. He's no longer the undisputed go-to guy for the Finns anymore.

"Getting burned big time"
What do you mean by that? He's sitting the tournament out with an injury. How can you know if he's still the undisputed go-to guy?

If anything, having several go-to-guys is a definite plus for a team that lives and dies by its defense/goaltending.

Re-23 Don't know if Kippy is hurt, but he start all the Flames game in February (and 51 start so far this year), I think he wants to get some rest (or he got a friendly reminder about who sign is paycheck).
For the Canadian team, this week-end game's were as low as the Salt Lake City priliminary round. On the plus side, we were already qualify for the next round and there is no need to lose energy here. We know we have to play Slovakia, Russia, Sweden or the USA in the Quarters.
On the minus side, there is the way they were losing. Getting outplayed in both fisrt period. The D-man are pathetic (Pronger outmuscle by Koivu, ouch!), the Power play is inexistant and they take silly penalty to make sure they won't look bad the whole 2 minutes. And to finish it, getting blank twice and having 5 of our 7 top NHL scorer at home.
Well, it would be nice to get the gold but it would mean another Olympics with the same direction and that we cannot afford.

Yes, Kiprusoff can play if he has to. But hey, he's only being ask to represent his country, that's all. So it's no big deal cuz who cares about the Olympics, right?
Seriously, between being called on by your home country for service and your job, which one do you feel is more important?

I think Kipper did the correct thing. I'm sure that he would have gone if he was 100% healthy.
This is a sporting event not a national crisis. The Olympics is by far the biggest boondoggle on the planet. It probably wasn't easy to say no.
Let's keep an eye on Hasek and see how that impacts the Senators.

OK, how can explain to me why Switzerlands are in front of Canada in the round robin, they have only 2 victory with 2 tied game when we have 3 win more goal for and less goal againts

Funny situation for Sweden. If they win they play Canada, if they lose they play the Swiss. I wonder how hard they will play this one.

That Sweden-Slovakia game was a joke. How difficult would it be to arrange it so that the deciding matches were played simultaneously? Damn, do I ever wish the Swiss will make them sorry tomorrow...

So Switzerland lost to Finland, which also beat everybody else. That's fine. Then, they beat successively the Czechs, who are the current world champions and the Canadians, who are the defending champions. Now you're telling me that they tied Germany and Italy?
Are they feeling that they've more than completed their mission and giving up in a sea euphoria? Or are they still drunk from celebrating the shutout against Canada?
They've played their butts off because they have nothing to lose. But from these last two games, they seem to be playing like they have nothing to win either.
Then again, if I were them, I might actually have preferred to just withdraw from the tournament right after beating Canada so that the team can exit with their heads hanging high, before getting pulverized in the quarter-finals.

#34 They were outshot like 200 - 5 in those 2 matches, it wasn't as if it would have been close had the Canucks and the Czech brought their A-, B- or even C-game with them in regards to finishing. The Swiss just isn't a very good hockey team but then again, in a tournament like this, the Swiss of this world do have a decent shot at upsetting the top-tiers... A classic case of "if they played 100 times, they'd be lucky to win 5".
The Swedes will totally annihilate them tomorrow, as much as it pains me to say so after watching the Three Crowns surf around for 3 periods today, without the slightest of intentions to, like, try and score some goals. Too bad I won't be able to wittness tomorrow's action, or any Olympic -action from here on in... I pick Finland, Canada, Czech and Sweden to continue to semis, with Canada and Czech to get in to the gold-medal game leaving Finland and Sweden to fight for the bronze. It's worth it to add that I do hope I'm wrong.

Finally, we'll get a Russia-Canada. It's been a long time we haven't play them in a meaningful game. I pick Canada but won't bet a nickel on this.
Slovakia-Czech should be a great game. Pick Slovakia but still no betting.
I'll bet my house on the Swedes
And finally, USA over Finland only because Canada need a bye before the finals.

That USA-Russia game was a fun one to watch. A lot of great hits and goals. Russia sure showed the US what they can happen if you turn the puck over and allow odd man rushes the other way.
It was a shame to see Italy lose today as well. They outplayed the Swiss and if it weren't for a horrible turnover there at the end, they would have had 'em.

29: I agree that Kiprusoff should not be judged for choosing to rest the injury, and neither should Lehtonen, for that matter.
It's not like their suiting up for another country, like say, Tanith Belbin. However, she can be excused for just about anything because she is unbelievably hot.
