Subject: Crunch Time - Week '2nd Last' Trades

- [5237211] Wed, Apr 05, 2006, 19:48
I've gotten from rank 800 ish to 300 ish.. I've been on a roll lately
San Jose's got a 2-day break Friday and Saturday. Just so happens Detoit plays a Back-2-Back against Columbus those very same days. Friday Thornton>Datsyuk>Thornton AND/OR Cheechoo>Zetterberg>Cheechoo
Tomorrow Gionta>Heatley/Alfredsson
Sunday Savard>Nylander if I dont do the Thornton trade |

Datsyuk out! Perhaps Staal, Crosby or Forsberg would work better.
Here's my final run strategy. Set my 4 wingers. Too many good wingers right now to start chasing. Hope that the combo i choose will hold up thru the last 6-7 games.
Hold on D. No point wasting trades on D. They aren't going to grab me big points.
I'm using my trades on Center and Goalie, Goalie.
In my opinion the goalie combination is critical. I can't afford to get the wrong horse and or have one take the night off.

Hmm, looks like quest for the top 20 may have ultimately been derailed by my goalies... You really need the right combination right now to make any head way up the standings. Sure wish i had Huet, he looks like the difference maker right now.

Wow, if Huet is off today -- I have him on one team -- I may move to Weekes/Lundqvist or more likely Giguere.

For SJ & Thornton's 2-day break. I like Briere, Crosby or Staal as alternatives that have b2b at that time.

Traded Brodeur for Giguere this morning.... I'm thinking of dumping the unproductive Jokinen, but then with the 2 day break for Big Joe, I might old on to this trade and then trade Joki back to Joe...

Huet > Gigure, too, eh? I've thought about that all day, but have concerns about the five straight road games for Anaheim following the tough home game vs. Dallas tonight. I know Huet is not starting today, and I know Giguere and Anaheim are hot (as is Montreal), but would love to get your thinking on this move. Probably just based on sheer # of games over the next week.
thx, walk

I have the same decision to make Walk. I really don't know. Giguere is the only good option for tonight, but then he is facing Dallas. I actually might take a flyer on Roloson. Minnesota and chicago back to back where Edmonton needs to win...These two teams are not offensive powerhouse, I guess Roloson should be OK.

I moved Huet>Giguere for a few reasons A. Huet isn't playing tonight, Giguere is. B. Anaheim is on a freaking tear C. After Huet sitting out a game, he plays 3 of the hottest Eastern teams in the league
Anaheim plays tough teams too, but I think their urgency is greater
As for moving to Redden, I forgot he was injured. Nobody said anything after my 2nd post and I had a mental lapse. I guess I'm retarded..

Ira,
With respect to Redden, he is not injured. Instead, he is away from the team for personal reasons. I think that the reason there was no response about Redden in your second post is because of the uncertainty about when Redden would be back.

Slight change of plan today with the recent craptacular efforts of Visnovsky.
Thornton>Staal>Thornton Rolston>Sakic Visnovsky>Phaneuf
Should be fun i'll get to cheer for phaneuf and rolston at tonites game.

CSF: Enjoy tonight's game. Rolston has infuriated me over the past two games scoring the shoot out game winners, but that leads to nothing in our fantasy game. What a blister of a wrister I saw him convert last night to win it. The game against Edmonton was on OLN here in NY.
Today: Thornton > Briere/Crosby. Tomorrow, Rolston or Jokinen (injured heel, game time decision for tonight) to Sakic. April 9: Briere/Crosby > Thornton. April 9: Ovechkin > Cheechoo.
I'll be tradeless by noontime Sunday. Sick.

Who'da thunk it? Last 2 weeks of the season, when most good managers are usually going with lineups packed with studs, some of the hottest goalies available right now are the cheapies.
Toskala: 0.62 Huet: 1.38 Aubin: 0.50
If you go into "Buy Players", and look at the top goalies for the past 15 days, sorted by total TSNP, SIX of the top eleven are under .75m, and only TWO are over 4.06m.
Wow.

It's getting tricky trying to figure out who's playing and who's resting up for the playoffs. I just realized that San Jose clinched last night and thus are likely to rest Toskala tonight, according to HockeyInformer. Darn, I wish I'd learned this before the east coast games started.

Definitely, good luck to everyone these last two days.
I have tried an extreme strategy of just completely waiting until the final day to try and unload and get a full squad. Haven't used a trade in about 9 days or so, but now I'm ready to unleash them right here at the end.

Anybody played the TSN' playoffs game? Should we all play in the same division?
It's going to be a great finish for the top spot of the division!!!
Thanks for all the fun this year!

3 teams within the 44 points, this is gonna be a race....
I have some things under my sleeve for tonight I think. I tried something that I think is actually working when I saw it about 10 days ago. I decided with the packed post Olympic Break schedules, that the most in terms of number of games that I could gain were pretty much 1 game per trade at a time.
So what I did was I decided to gain the 1 game on the final day by holing Sakic, Thornton, Cheechoo, and Selanne to the very end instead of using trades along the way which I figured most people would do. Now I have 5 trades (since I haven't used one since 4/09) and 4 skaters to replace (plus Jagr and Heatley still have to play too), so I can have a full load of 7 skaters plus grab a goalie for tonight.....
This is gonna be an interesting final day. Good luck to everyone.

I think the key was finding guys in the last week that still had something to play for.
For example, Thornton and Cheechoo played minimal time last night compared to what they are used to. Didn't need to.
Whereas Rangers, Flyers and Devils are still playing for 3rd place overall. Hmmm...

Defintiely....I took a chance by waiting until the final day and crossing my fingers that there would be a lot to play for. There is tons to play for right now so I lucked out and have a fighter's chance to make up some more ground.
You've still got an outside shot joelis, go get him.

I have a mix of guys with something to play for against guys that are just plain good with nothing to play for and playing against teams also with nothing to play for. Managing three teams, it's quite a mix, but here's a little recap:
Motivated guys I recently traded into: Gomez, Lundqvist, Brodeur.
Less motivated guys I recently traded into: Crosby, Sundin, Ovechkin, Jokinen.
Recent example of a motivated-player bust: Hossa.
I still think it's more about getting the players who are going to play (obvious first criterion, but nonetheless, important to state), and then I bet the second most predictive factor is who's hot. Crosby, for example, is just hot. I'd rather have him than most any other center going tonight if I could only have one. Ovechkin -- I chose him over Elias and Gionta.
It'll be a hairy last night for some in tight races! Good luck to all Gurupies!

Thanks to all for another great season. It's been lots of fun. Too bad work got in the way this year (yeah that's my lame excuse for my lame year). Managed to finish 1st in my auto division (i'll make a donation to Guru and I should donate something to KKB as well), lost out big in ESDNHL (great competition tho), and was soundly thrashed by 'Kings on Ice' in the other auto division.
Congrats to all the winners. Enjoy the summer. I've got some golfing to do so I'll just be lurking around occasionally.
Hockey RULES!
PS. Ira i'm heading your way next week. I intend to have some fun in that big ole water park at west edm. Don't forget to have those Oiler tix ready. thanks.

Great job, Hockey ljusa sidan on your ESDNHL division victory, and your ninth place WWR. Excellent results.
Hockey is my fave TSN game, and it is sad to say goodbye. I will surely be watching my NYR in the playoffs (for a change!), but don't expect much in the way of advancing, not past the hot cross-town rival NJD. But, it's better than sucking!
I finished 91 and 99 overall, and my commrade in arms, bookie, finished 199. Respectable top 100 finishes for two teams, but for a dude like me who has been playing this game since its inception in 1998, I don't tend to improve. I've plateaued. Aaaaaar.
Congrats to all for a good season.

My best finish ever by a mile (in both TSNP and TSND)... Although i can't help but think of all the TSNP i left on the table through the wrong decision on coin-flip type of trades throughout the year. Most recently being picking Briere over Crosby during that 2 day break for Thornton... I felt i was in contention up until about 2 weeks to go when my goalie situation went to all hell. Oh well, this just gives me further incentive and motivation for next season.
ESDNHL was crazy.

I really tanked the last couple weeks. At one point I was in 20th position with a trade advantage on alot of the teams ahead of me (save sw). I ended up finishing 67th, which is 5 places worse then 03-04. Quite dissapointing, but ah well. It was fun. :)

I lost huge to Die_Habs in an auto division
brewsters millions 38458 TSNP Back, it was an LRV team for me however ;)
I wonder if TSN could manually configure a private division. Once it was fully loaded with 20 managers, set everyones RV to $7M so you could only start with a full roster 500K players and manage your way up.
Anyway great fun, waiting for next season.

C.SuperFreak, have a good time next week
as for the Oiler tickets, they're as difficult to find as a skinny kid in Texas..
They had an advance sale for subscribed Pipeline members of the edmontonoilers.com website, and the tickets sold out within 2-5 minutes.
They seemed to only be selling singles, so I managed to get just 1 ticket..
They're going on sale to the general public tomorrow, so you can try at noon Eastern Time, 10am MT (local in Edmonton) at ticketmaster.ca and try your luck. I'm guessing they'll sellout within 2 minutes..
Anyways, enjoy the hockey atmosphere here in Edmonton. Fans are crazy, and if you need a place to watch the game, there's plenty of places on Whyte Ave.
