First round is just about complete and we've got no chatter? Come on these playoffs are exciting, thrilling and entertaining.

A couple of thoughts (in no particular order) and observations from the 'Freak:

The Good.
Ottawa -
New Jersey -
Edmonton -
San Jose -
Anaheim -
Buffalo -
Carolina -
Colorado -

The Bad.
Montreal - they ran out of super unleaded high octane SakuKoivu.
Calgary - Calgary can't rely on Iggy and Kipper every night. a) Calgary will not surprise any team this year and they need to realize this. b) They've only played well in 2 of the last 6 periods. c) they shouldn't be playing a game 7 (dumbasses).
Nashville - memo to Barry Trotz: SuperSize your team.

The Ugly.
Philadelphia - Seems to me the problem once again appears to be...a) goaltending b) Bobby Clarke c) June 30, 1992
The hit on Umberger in game 1 was incredible. Did playing in the East take it's toll on Forsberg?
Rangers - just weren't the same team after the Olympic break. Too bad it would have been a great turnaround.
Detroit - That team got a) old b) slow c) old and slow in 2 weeks and d) owned. Edmonton blew by the defense with ease.
Dallas - An enigma wrapped in a riddle playing in Texas. Too many golf courses in Dallas.

I'll finish up later.
Anyone with anything to say, add, discuss?

Its pretty incredible that in the west, we may have all 4 series' being upsets. I wonder if thats ever happened before.

All 4 of the top seeds advanced in the east.

Even though there's only 1 game 7, this has been the most exciting first round I can remember in a long time!

New Jersey runs on Patrik Elias just as much if not more thn Broduer anymore. He's been hurt all year, but the spurts that he has playing in, NJ has a ridiculous record. He is really an elite player now.

I was almost convinced that Ott had no shot 3 weeks ago. I have changed my mind. They are scoring in bunches right now with their talent. They toyed with TB.

I've never been at a happier point in my life.

As to who I'd rather face in the 2nd round, I'm pretty torn.

With Calgary, the intenseness would be incredible. There'd be riots, it would be absolutely insane. The rivalry is like no other. BUT, BUT, on the other hand, I think we'd have a hard time beating them.. Calgary's beat us like 6 or 7 times out of the 8 games this season, and Kiprusoff has definetly got in the heads of most of my Oiler forwards..

With San Jose, I think we have a better matchup against them, as our checking line of Moreau-Peca-Pisani is one of the best in the league, and could do the job against Big Joe & Cheech.. San Jose is far less physical than Calgary and I think we could beat them against the boards quite easily.

Second round is set. Anaheim outplayed Calgary. Carlyle uses his backup to steal the victory on enemy turf. All 4 topseeds are now done in the West. Playing for home ice advantage in the West just didn't really pan out. But the banners will look good in the rafters next season...

San Jose vs Edmonton - SJ in 6
Colorado vs Anaheim - Anaheim in 7

Ottawa vs Buffalo - Ottawa in 6
Carolina vs NJ - New Jersey in 5

Well, either a Canadian team wins or someone wins who has never won before. That's pretty cool. I'd just like Carolina to win the East so I can catch a Finals game. I'm thinking it will be Carolina vs Edmonton. Gotta like the matchup of a hockey mad city out in the middle of nowhere...

and Edmonton. :)

It's time. Oil v. Canes, let's get it on.

I'll be pulling for the Oilers in this one, no question. Congrats to the Hurricanes on making it back to the finals.

Here are my thoughts. Goaltending should be a wash, I think Cam Ward will be an outstanding goalie, and Roloson is all the Oilers have, I hope he stays sharp.

Part of the reason I see a wash in the net, is the Oilers defense keeping the front of the net cleared and a bunch of shots from the edges. Truth be told I haven't seen the Canes a lot, so my perception may not be completely accurate but the Oilers defense should be better.

Up front, Carolina's forwards at least their top six or so have an advantage, although not large. Eric Staal is the single best forward still playing. It will be interesting to see him head-to-head with Pronger and Smith.

Special team will go a long way to deciding this one in my estimation. The Oiler PK has been outstanding so far, but it will be tested hard by Carolina. The Oilers seem to take a lot of penalties and that has me most concerned.

In the new NHL speed kills but I don't really see either team with an edge over the other, I read a lot of articles and posts suggesting that Edmonton has a large advantage, I don't see it, they didn't look to speedy against the Ducks maybe that was tired and sick showing up.

It should be a very physical series, the Oilers have a couple of softer players, I'm not sure who the Canes have that fit that description.

I would really like to get to a game at Rexall, I'd make the drive up Highway 2, but have no availability to tickets. I hope it's a great series.

that was about as bad a loss as you could've expected. Not only that last Carolina goal, but now MacTavish saying Roloson is out for the series???? yikes :(

Someone's gotta stop this Redneck Hockey phase, I can't take it anymore!!!!

That's pretty funny coming for a Trashers fan, J. :)

Phenomenal game last night - what a finish! The only bad thing about this series is that it seems to me that NBC's showing of games 3-7 of the Finals dictated that the series start on a Monday, which means no games for me since all the ones in NC will be on Monday or Wednesday. :(

I hope Roloson is OK - the good fans of the Oilers deserve better than that after all this time.

hey, no one who lives in Atlanta is actually FROM atlanta, we're all transplants and therefore not rednecks :)

Not that everyone who is a Hurricane fan is a redneck, but they always show that guy with the "Redneck Hockey" sign in the stands, so it kinda stuck :)

Roloson getting hurt is so depressing. I sort of want to cry.
