Just posting some thoughts here....

I really like my keepers, Spezza, Luongo, and Kovalchuk. I am hoping that Ilya bounces back this year from a subpar season last year.

This year I made a point to keep +/- in mind, as in past years this category has always seemed to hurt me. If I had a couple guys in mind that I wanted to pick, I went with +/- as the deciding factor.

There were a couple of guys I had queued up that went a couple picks before I could get them, and that was frustrating!

Picks I like: (Other than my keepers)

Derek Roy in round 11
Scott Niedermeyer in Round 12
Alexei Zhitnik in Round 13

Picks I wish I could do over:

Jason LaBarbara in round 8

Great Value Picks I like from others:

Superfreak: Gerber and Holmstrom
Dienasty: Nylander and Kopitar
LittleM: H. Sedin and Murray
Beezer: Mike Smith (who I had targeted since round 14) and Patrick Elias
Wolfer: Holmqvist
PermDude: Schaefer (who I really wanted in round 20), Backstrom
Hubble: Demitra (if he stays healthy), Straka
Cobwebs: Harding, D. Brown
Philly: Carter, Sykora, Rafalski
TommyD: Bieksa, Wolski
Taxman: Neil, Jokinen

Top teams: (In no particular order)

Barilko6 (of course!), Beezer, LittleM, Tommy D

Keepers
Joe Thornton, C, SJ, it’s good to have the best passer in the game on my team.
Marian Gaborik, RW, MIN, this is the season he’ll get over 100 points.
Chris Mason, G, NAS, had a hard time choosing between him and Lehtonen, had to flip a coin to decide. I would have liked to have gotten Malkin, but now I’m glad that I didn’t, it would just have complicated things, starting the draft without a goalie.
Draft thoughts
I expected that the draft would start with a goalie run, and was hoping to get Emery or Vokoun but had to settle for Lehtonen again. I had the TSN rankings and projections as my cheat sheet, and my strategy was to first target players with the highest points projections and try to keep up with CSF pointswise. I also wanted to have a strong D this year so I knew that I needed to get a stud D in round 6 and was happy to get Whitney. Having gotten my starters at C early, I could concentrate on building a strong D and filling LW/RW with value picks, and in the late rounds picking up some backup goalies. Since C is such a deep position, I could wait until the last round to get my 4th C, in fact a lot of really good Cs were surpisingly left undrafted. I’m very pleased with the draft, I learned a lot from last years draft, and tried not to do the same mistakes this year. A lot of D-men flew off the board in rounds 12 and 13 but I’m OK with landing Poti after the dust had settled. Otherwise, I had a smooth draft, being able to land most of my targeted players on every turn, and if a player was snatched, there was always a just as good option available. Last year I didn’t at all look at PIM when I drafted and still managed to finish at the top of that category, this year my non-strategy was the same. My team is very balanced and I feel that I have a shot at the top 3. I’m also pleased with my goalie depth, grabbing Harding and Howard in the late rounds, don't know how much they'll play but both could be starters next year becoming good trade bate. My team is strong at C, and has a solid D, and with potential at LW/RW, but I may be leaning too heavily on the 2nd lines of TAM and CAR. And I’m a little bummed that I wasn’t able to draft any Sens.
Picks I like: (Other than my keepers)
6.04 Ryan Whitney
7.09 Brad Richards
17.09 Josh Harding
But I really like all my picks.
Picks I wish I could do over:
I'm fine with all my picks
Best value pick
21.04 Vaclav Prospal, C, TAM, He had disappointing stats last year, but this season is a contract year and I expect him to be back on the top line with Vinny and Marty. A pity that he’ll be sitting on my bench for most of the season.
Riskiest Pick
15.09 Erik Johnson, D, STL, without a doubt my riskiest pick, but I was lured by thinking that he’ll be a new Phaneuf, and we all know what he did in his rookie season. He could be the player that makes it or breaks it for me this season, but right now I have a positive feeling about him.
Biggest sleeper
18.04 Dustin Brown, RW, LA, I managed last year to draft Cammalleri at 18.10 and Semin at 14.10, and they helped me to avoid the cellar. This year I’m hoping that Michel Ouellet 14.10 and Brown will be my saviors. Ouellet is reunited with his Juniors buddy Richards, and Brown is now playing on the top line with Cammy and Kopitar.
Great Value Picks I like from others:
Superfreak: Avery, Kessel
Dienasty: Kopitar, Calder
LittleM: McCabe, Bergeron
Beezer: Nagy, Smith
Barilko: Stafford, Zhitnik, Price
Wolfer: Boyes, Pitkanen
PermDude: Connolly, Aucoin, Murphy
Hubble: Higgins, Latendresse
Philly: Sykora, Horton
TommyD: Nash, Hejduk
Taxman: Drury, Jokinen

Thoughts on other teams
CSF had a solid draft, he recovered well from being on the back end of the goalie run, and his D is decent enough to challenge again for the title. But needs more depth at RW with injury-prone Havlat on the team.
Dienasty is also solid across the board and will be looking to take back his title.
Little M has again put together a very strong D, and will be one of the better teams, but he also has a bunch of players that I dislike, not bad players but not very sexy fantasywise in my eyes.
The Beezer has a team with potential especially if Selanne comes back, he’ll be in the hunt.
Barilko needs for some of his wingers to break out for him to contend. Very strong D and Goalies.
Wolfer reached on a lot of picks, but also has some sleepers that may right the ship.
PermDude was all over the place grabbing sleepers and loading his RW arsenal, but managed in the end to get things together nicely, but needs more depth with goalies.
Hubble likes the Habs I see, but I like his team anyway, definitely a contender.
Philflyboy needs more winger depth, and I don’t like Huselius, but other than that he has some good sleepers and a solid team.
Tommyd did a great job picking on the end, he’ll be dangerous this year.
Taxman also had a nice draft on the end, and the Malkin/Giggy deal improved his chances. A balanced team that is light years better than last season, will be on the upper half this time.

Keepers

Martin Brodeur: It's good to have this kind of security at this position.
Marian Hossa: Couldn't be happier with his performance. Drafted him last year with a second round pick, and he's since turned into a first rounder.
Phillipe Boucher: Had tough time picking a third keeper for this season. None of my other forwards stood out enough so i decided make a strategic move and keep a D-man to allow me a stronger forward draft this year. His solid numbers among d-men don't hurt either.

Draft thoughts

I had trouble last season with stability in the goalie position (despite Brodeurs presence) so i knew i had to pick one up right off the hop. Unfortnately everyone else thought the same. I feel lucky to have drafted Huet, he was the last goalie left on my list. I'm more pleased that i was able to get Zetterberg in the next round, i was sure he would have been gone earlier. He should be able to step in and make a great 3rd keeper. The rest of the team filled out mostly according to plan. I had problems with PIM's and last year, made a point to fix it, and i think i did alright. I also think i did a better job of mixing in youth upside and proven veterans. My D could be stronger, but ill let the season play out and hope to imrpove through the FA and trades.

Picks I like (Other than my keepers)

Henrik Zetterberg 5.02
Anze Kopitar 11.02
Mikael Samuelsson 14.11

Picks I wish I could do over

Mattias Ohlund 15.02 - Probably could have had him a round or two later.

Best value pick

Johan Franzen 18.11 - Had my eye on him since the draft started. If he sticks on one of Detriot's top two lines, he could be in for a great year. 65-70 pts in the 18th round? I'm hoping for multi-pos eligibility as well.

Riskiest Pick

Brendan Shanahan 7.02 - I passed on Brad Richards in hopes Shanny can put in a full season, produce over 70pts and fill the rest of the stats as he's done years pat. Also wanted access to NY's potentially lethal offence.

Biggest sleeper

Todd Bertuzzi 13.02 - Assuming Teemu doesn't return, Bertuzzi could be poied to step in and pick up much of the slack. I feel the sky's the limit for him, and i know he'll play with energy because he owes Brian Burke. Bertuzzi should be on a mission this year. Should be.

Great Value Picks I like from others

Superfreak: Havlat, Schubert
LittleM: Modano, Bryzgalov
Beezer: Gionta, Meszaros
Barilko: Roy, Zhitnik
Wolfer: Boyes, Pitkanen
PermDude: Tim Connolly, Recchi
Hubble: Higgins, Legace
Cobwebs: Cole, Prospal
Philly: Sykora, Horton
TommyD: Brind'amour, Wolski
Taxman: Schneider, Drury

Thoughts on other teams

This is closest draft yet. Taxman has good depth and a great 1-2 piunch in goal that should keep him in it all year. Cobwebs team is real scary, and if his goaltending holds i make him the team to beat. CSF's top end producers can't be touched, so if the rest of the gang gets it together he'll be there too. I don't see much seperation this year in terms of finishing points, it'll be close. Everyone's got a shot.

Keepers

Turco: He gets wins, GAA, and SHO. SV% is usually not as high as I would like but he's a fine stopper.
Iginla: A big boost in G and SOG, and he usually does well on the man advantage too.
Vanek: A lot of folks are calling for him to fall off some with Briere's departure. While this is likely, he was still the best choice of the remaining guys. While +47 is probably not happening again, I suspect he'll still give me a big boost in the offensive stats.

Draft thoughts

I was really hoping the goalie run would carry through and I could grab Cheechoo with the first pick, but it was not to be. Instead, I grabbed the anti-Turco in Roloson (hopefully together along with Smith they will combine to get me 40 points from the goalie categories). From then on, I tried to just grab best available player and pretty much stuck to this the rest of the draft.

Picks I like (Other than my keepers)

The NJ guys in rounds 6 and 7
Zubov in round 9
Smith in round 17

Picks I wish I could do over

Do I even need to say it? Teemu in round 6 was a flat-out mistake - I didn't realize he wasn't in camp. Missed that tidbit while preparing for the draft. I'll hang on and hope that he decides he's not done yet.

Best value pick

Robert Lang - He'll get every chance to succeed in Chicago and he's got some talent. As my 4th center, any production at all would be a plus.

Riskiest Pick (non-Teemu)

Nagy - I'm concerned about his durability and that he plays in Phoenix. Something higher than -50 would be nice.

Biggest sleeper

Modin - I really like his goal potential, especially for a last round pick. He could earn a starting role if Nagy can't get it done.

Favorite Value Picks I like from others

Superfreak: Avery (this one hurt)
LittleM: Sedins (bonus points for getting both)
Barilko: Zhitnik
Wolfer: Cheechoo (so close!)
PermDude: Afinogenov
Hubble: Timonen
Cobwebs: Savard
Philly: Mara
TommyD: Doan
Dienasty: Shanahan
Taxman: Schneider, Drury

Thoughts on other teams

Other teams did not draft Selanne in round 5, so they are all smarter than me. Despite that I plan to contend for the title and think I have as good a shot as anyone. I think the keepers balanced out the league a bit as I don't see anyone that looks like an obvious pick to win.

Now I'm REALLY concerned since Phoenix is now located in LA. Or maybe it's just Nagy. *sigh* Need more sleep. :)

Keepers

Evgeni Nabokov: Starting goalie with a formidable team in front of him. It was a tough decision on who to keep. I really hit the jackpot last year with my 3 goalies. Vokouns trade to Florida made him expendable. So it was a toss up between Nabby and Giggy. A coin flip decided it.
Alex Ovechkin: Scoring and shooting.
Dany Heatley: Traded two solid players in Malkin and Giguere for him.

Overall I really wanted to keep Malkin but Yahoo! had other ideas. I threw out the offer and received a hefty amount of interest. I made a last minute deal with Taxman and threw in a goalie.

Draft thoughts

Hells bells where do I start with this draft. Personally, I think this was my worst draft ever which can be attributed to everyone else drafting well and being in tune with how the point categories play out. The draft tells us that the goalie position is the foundation of our teams and I see that the league is maturing very well.
I was totally unprepared for the 12 spot position and by the time the first round was over I was already wondering who would be a suitable 2nd goalie (so I chose 4 others-lol).
I had trouble last season with PIM’s and +/-. Avery will help in the penalty minutes and Heatley, Sakic should do well in the +/- categories. I don’t expect to win this year. There are too many good teams to compete with and you are all a very well educated bunch of drafters.
I never got a chance to get the dmen or goalies I really wanted and that’s all I could fixate on during some rounds. It really distracted me and I lost focus during a couple of the rounds.
Good drafting everyone. The keepers certainly made this interesting. There’s no chance of me retaining the crown.

Picks I like (Other than my keepers)

Milan Michalek 6.12
Tomas Holmstrom 17.01

Picks I wish I could do over

Joe Sakic 4.12 – I should have picked up Zetterberg, Briere, or Marleau and gone younger. On the flip side I’ve never had Sakic in a pool and thought I’d take a shot with him.

Best value pick

Jordan Leopold 20.12 – He’s the guy Calgary traded away for Tanguay. He was injured last year.

Riskiest Pick

Peter Forsberg 15.01 – But someone must have also thought about taking him?

Biggest sleeper

no one really sticks out on my team.

Great Value Picks I like from others

The Dienasty: Zetterberg, Tkachuk
LittleM: Murray, Bouwmeester
Beezer: Lang, Nagy
Barilko: Labarbara, Gomez
Wolfer: Boyes Redden
PermDude: Backstrom, Salo
Hubble: Higgins, Demitra
Cobwebs: Kariya, Harding
Philly: Horton, Tucker
TommyD: Ruutu, Wolski
Taxman: J Jokinnen, Guerin

Thoughts on other teams

A quote from above sums this years draft up “This is closest draft yet.” Just an observation that left me scratching my head was in regards to some d-corps. I don’t understand why so many teams decided to short 1 dman. Granted it might save you in the +/- category but shorting this position could cost you in the other categories. Can anyone of the managers shed some light on the strat?
Taxman might suffer with his D-corps. In d he’s got 2 key injuries and 1 d man short, but has a much improved goaltending trio and it’s a much improved team from last year. Well rounded in most categories.
Beezers Selanne gaffe might hold him back to start but it shouldn’t take him long to recover. If Selanne comes back it could be a nice push.
Barilko’s pick up of Neidermayer shouldn’t hurt him. I’m sure we all wanted him but couldn’t figure out when would be the best time to snag him.
Permdudes lawfirm of Dewey, Cheatem and Howe (Filppula, Barch, Carcillo) is pretty risky.
I think that Wolfer left his center run a little late and it could hurt him, but I like his wingers. If yahoo adds multi positions again and reclassifies some wingers at center he’ll do alright.
Cobwebs has a solid offense and defensive picks. His goalies are going to determine where he’ll finish.
I feel Hubble is also a goalie away from being a contender. I like his d.
Don’t feel slighted if I haven’t mentioned your teams. They are all damn good.

We all know we don’t end the season with all the players we draft. There’s always a couple of gems in the FA pool. Mason and Emery where huge FA pickups last year. I’m wondering who’ll emerge this year.

Keepers

Ryan Miller- Buffalo will still be very good
Eric Stall - He should have a comeback year.
Niklas Lidstrom-Still one of the the top 3 d-men

Draft thoughts-

Was not surprised to see all the goalies picked up as I had Emery and Dipietro as my top two choices. After that I picked the best player available and looked at position as well. I never really found that the players I had targeted were being snatched up.

Picks I like (other than my keepers)
Nash and Brind'amour

Pick I wish I could do over:
Getzlaf might be a little high.

Best value pick:
Doan

Riskiest pick:
Noone really risky as in terms of injury.

Biggest sleeper
Jordan Stall- this kid could be huge this year.

Great value picks:
