Yahoo! "Winner" League 88497.

Players of good quality but almost no trades offered or made.

I picked Scott Hartnell off the waiver wire on January 15. He's been hot.

Offer today from "Toronto_Maple-Leafs":

Nik Antropov
for
Scott Hartnell

Quick check: Antropov hasn't been hit by a truck in the last few hours, so it couldn't be that.

I'm tempted by the idea of Antropov, but then Hartnell is a typical Philly thug who really ought to be in jail and will rack up the PIMs.

I think I will decline, but I'm not sure I'm really assessing this trade rightly.

Thoughts?

Depends on what you want, Hartnell (Whos killing me in TSN hockey) will get you more (PIM) and right now hes been red hot playing with Richards. On a purely points basis I think from this day forward Antropov will beat Hartnell, the problem is what happens with Sundin at the trade deadline and whether that would reduce Antropovs points (Id imagine it would) if Sundin is traded.

I assume standard hockey stats are being used (Goals, Assists, +/-, and PIM).

Tx. This guy's not dumb and has been looking at my roster and sees I'm a little weak at C. (Although I own Richards and he owns Sundin! so who is hedging whose bets?)

The guy has 5 goalies: Huet, Osgood, Conklin (props for grabbing him), Gerber and Toskala.

I have Brodeur, Nabukov, and Niitymaki (plus Fleury IR) Don't need his goalies.

Hmmm...I am 81-50-9 in 3rd and he is 71-60-9 in 5th.

It's not like I have to trade, but I hate to just say "No" to a recent offer.

I'll counter with same deal plus an advantageous shift at D for me. That will sort it out.

Tx, Twarp, for the help.

Itll be interesting to see what Uncle Cliffy does now that hes in charge of the Ontario Teachers Pension...err...Leafs.

I think Sundin will be traded, with intentions of signing him as a FA (ala Ryan Smyth that didnt work out). Of course the Leafs could derail that plan with two wins vs the Caps, if the Leafs eek out those two games it could be interesting on what they are gonna do.

I haven't been able to follow the Leaf maneuvring as I should because I couldn't stand John Ferguson. Not because of any lack of ability on his part; but because he is the spitting image of his father, who brutalized the Leafs 12 times a year back in the day. And, much as I hate to admit it, he was the ultimate "clean" enforcer. No slashing, spearing, spitting, or buttending, just crushing body checks plus a willingness to defend any Hab skill player who was endangered.

Wikipedia says:
In 1963-64, he was promoted to the Canadiens as an "enforcer" to protect captain Jean Beliveau from aggressive defenders--merely twelve seconds into his first NHL game, he was in a fight with "Terrible" Ted Green of the Boston Bruins; Ferguson won the fight.[1]

During his playing career, he won the Stanley Cup five times: in the years 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, and 1971, and always earned more than 100 penalty minutes in a regular season.

OK, great family but why hire him in the organization of the Toronto Maple Leafs? My team and psyche had been humiliated enough by John Ferguson for years, but at least I thought that, when he retired, thank God I would never see him again.
And then the son who looks exactly like him shows up and works for the Leafs -- or so he claims -- he was probably a Hab plant all along.

Fergie's press conference on now. He acts and talks like his father too. Deeply serious, formal in matter, grave. Just one beat behind in comprehending things. A guy who listens to the joke but doesn't understand the punch line.

My counter offer turned down. T-M-L counters with Ribiero for Hartnell.

I will keep Hartnell's PIMs. Turned down.
