Your best value pick:Getting Seguin so late could be a steal.
Your riskiest ick:The more I read about Boyes the less I like plus Hiller if his injuries come back.
Thoughts on your own team: I always seem to be light in games played by d-men and goalies so I tried to draft earlier in those areas probably overpaying on some of the d-men but there a ton of wingers with similar stats (IMHO) the later the draft gets.
Sleeper pick on your team:Fleischmann and Hall if their +/- don't kill me.
Sleeper pick of the draft:Van Riemsdyk
Name the manager who stole the one player you had really wanted and name that player:Cobwebs with Van Riemsdyk
Thoughts on other teams:I like Ira's team good d-core considering there are no keepers there. Cobwebs took three guys I wanted JVR, Fowler and Ian White so take that for what it's worth. ALso think ALfie in the 9th is great value. Like Goldcoach's team especially if Landeskog and Niederitter work out. CSF could rule this league for a long time if Crosby comes back just sick keepers with him and OV.

Predict the top 3 mgrs:
First:CSF
Second:Goldcoach
Third:tommyd

Cup Winner:Winnipeg Jets ( It would be Cinderella)

Your best Value pick:
Henrik Sedin (1.06), it's a mystery that he was available, not a favorite player but I just couldn't let him slip any further.
Jason Spezza (5.06), 2 injury plagued seasons has dropped him in the rankings, but he still has the potential for 90+ points.
Brent Seabrook (11.06), he was high on all the rankings and is a lock for 40-50 points, pretty good for my 5th D-man.

Your riskiest pick:
Daniel Alfredsson (9.06), a healthy reborn Alfie can still produce at a high level, at least that’s what I’m hoping for, but very risky considering his age.
Jacob Markstrom (12.07), what was I thinking? I bet nobody even had him on their radar. He was the best goalie at WJC and SEL, and has the
same mentality as Lundqvist, hates losing. With Clemmensen injured he will backup Theodore who has looked shakey in preseason. There is a chance
that he'll take over as #1 and be a Calder candidate, but most likely he'll eventually be sent back to AHL. With only 1 LW left to fill for my starters,
figured I could waste a pick here.

Thoughts on your own team:
It's amazing how great your team looks directly after a draft;-) Except for not having a good 3rd goalie my team looks a lot stronger than last
season. I was able to get quite a few players that I targeted. My goal was to get Erik Karlsson (4.07) and complete my D early, but also get good
starters at LW and RW. Maybe I need more forwards since I have some injury risks, but that is easily fixed during the season, and I can always try to
trade a D-man for a forward or a goalie. This year I totally ignored PIM and focused on goalscoring which is the category that is hardest to find.
My goalies and PIM will determine my season, but I still expect to challenge for a top 3 finish.

Sleeper pick on your team:
T.J. Oshie (10.07), Oshie has been working hard this offseason and came to camp in great shape. It’s a contract year and I have a gut feeling that he’ll have a
breakout season.
David Jones (15.06), nobody seems to notice this guy, he was tied with Duchene for goalscoring on the Avs with 27 and will be on a line with Stastny and Landeskog,
so I expect him to crack 30 goals this season.
David Rundblad (17.06), he had 50 points in 55 games in SEL last season as a D-man and is only 20. I didn't intended to draft him but then I heard that
Carkner got injured, so he's a lock to start the season with the Sens. There's still a risk that he'll be sent to AHL or SEL to work on his defense.

Sleeper pick of the draft:
Eberle (13.08), looking for a big season from him.

Name the manager who stole the one player you had really wanted and name that player:
When Taxman picked Gaborik at 2.06 just before me I was totally floored and didn't have a backup plan, ended up picking Havlat instead.
I really wanted Rask but Dienasty got him at 7.01.

Thoughts on other teams:
All teams look strong and have their weaknesses. As usual LittleM and CSF were very good at picking value players. I was surprised that almost all managers had
their 3rd goalie already by round 11, and that almost all managers waited a long time to get their remaining D-men. Filthy has stud D-men but I
don't think it will make up for his weaker forwards, and Schneider was a wasted auto-pick. But Filthy is an active manager so his team will probably
grow stronger during the season. Tommyd has a strong team, not a fan of his RWs though.

Predict The Top 3:
First: CSF (if Crosby plays 75+ games)
Second: LittleM
Third: Tommyd

Your best value pick:
7.03 Patrik Elias
If he stays healthy, he can rack up the stats playing on the PP with Kovalchuk & Parise.
Your riskiest pick:
I think this is the first Rotoguru draft where I didn't really take any risks. My previous teams either made me win or lose terribly.
If I had to choose, probably
9.03 Andrew Ladd
Had a breakout year last year with 29 goals, but could emerge as a flash in the pan last season as his talents are pretty limited. Could easily sink back 20+ points this season.
Thoughts on your own team:
Like I said before, didn't take any risks for once. With that being said, I'm not 100% happy with my team. I feel I'm solid in every statistical category, but not sure if I'm better than a number of teams. I'm happy with my PIMs and PP points, but suspect about my goaltending, and not sure if I have quite enough offense to win. I'm hoping/expecting for a top 5 finish, though. Will take a couple key injuries from other teams for me to win I think.
Sleeper pick on your team:
11.03 Jack Johnson
JJ had an off-year last season, but I think will get back to his old self this season.
Sleeper pick of the draft:
9.02 James Neal
As the Pens top winger, Neal could hit 40 goals this season.
Name the manager who stole the one player you had really wanted and name that player:
The Dienesty, Pekka Rinne 1.01. I had a feeling he wouldn't fall to #3, but I could always dream :)
wolfer, James Neal 9.02. For the reasons stated above.
Thoughts on other teams:
In my experience, the team with the best goaltending usually has the best chance, so its good to see how spread out it is this year, but I'll give it to phiflyboy. How did CSF have so many great players?

Predict the top 3 mgrs:
First: CSF
Second: tommyd
Third: phiflyboy

Your best value pick:
Derek Roy (6.12) - He's a quality point per game player who i feel slipped under the radar a bit thanks to an injury shortened season. I like him as a potential top 30 player, and you can't ask for much more when you're digging out there at the end of the 6th round.
Your riskiest pick:
Scott Hartnell (2.12) - I really, really wanted Milan Lucic here, but he was snapped up 3 picks prior. Being as there aren't a lot of players in the league that do what these two do guys do for a fantasy team, i decided on the next highest ranked player after Lucic in Hartnell. I sensed a possible run on scoring power forwards, and sure enough the other guys in Backes, Burrows and Clowe soon fell, making my pick a little easier to swallow. Still, i gave up some serious offense when i passed on Thomas Vanek who went exactly one pick later.
Thoughts on your own team:
Without real top end keepers (Zetterberg, Hossa, Pietriangelo, Broduer) i figured the only way to complete this season was to draft as balanced a team as possible. I own a lot of players that either had an abnormally a poor season previously (Weiss, Pominville, Broduer) or dealt with injuries which shortened their season (Roy, Hossa, Stewart, Edler, Malone, Broduer). They're all going to have to bounce back and givem a full season of thier typical production levels, and i know it's asking a lot, but that's what it's going to take for me to win this thing. As it is, im shooting for a podium finish, it's been a while.
Sleeper pick on your team:
Blake Wheeler (16.12) - I think he'll play a big role in WPG this season, and is coming off a bit of a breakout year previously. I hope the real breakout is in '11-'12 when he drops 60+pts and leads the team in scoring.
Sleeper pick of the draft:
Brad Marchand (12.04) - I like this pick by PermDude and wish i made it myself. I believe he'll well out produce his draft position.
Name the manager who stole the one player you had really wanted and name that player:
Three nominees:
pfb - Milan Lucic (2.09) - see above
ira - John Tavares (2.10) - he's going to be crazy this year. I came so close to nabbing both Lucic and Tavares. Can't win 'em all, i guess.
taxman - Mike Ribiero (8.06) - He's got potenial to finish in the top 10 NHL scoring. Awesome value pick here.
Thoughts on other teams
It's a bit sickening to see both Crosby and Ovechkin on the same team, but all you can really do now is give credit where it's due and name CSF the prohibitive favorite to win for about the next 5 years... It also helps that he can hella draft too. tommyd's got a nice mix going with solid goaltending. I'm feeling PermDude's team if he can an above averge year out of Roloson. A lot of teams have the offense covered but questionable goaltending setups.

Predict the top 3 mgrs:
First: CSF (might as well copy & paste this for the next 5 recap threads)
Second: Permdude
Third: tommyd

Cup Winner: Vancouver

Overall another good, competitive, high quality drafting in this years edition of the RGFHL fantasy frustration draft. I really enjoy this part of the year and yes the draft had it’s moments of frustration but really is a lot of fun watching your targetted picks getting scooped as your turn approaches. And then you have to re-assess. But that’s the way it is with managers spread out across a multitude of time zones. It is truly an international event with a cast of managers spread out across the globe. Thanks for your patience as we worked through this thing. Next year I’m definitely going to implement a clock to keep things moving along. It should encourage queues and if you have issues, don't blame the clock, it was Sir Sandford Fleming who proposed worldwide time zones.
Thanks to KKB for his revamp of the drafting tool. It has some kinks with the positioning of autopicked players but overall it was a good experience.
Let's get it on. First, go grab a coffee, pop or juice, this is a 2000 word essay.

Your best value pick: 5.10 Logan Couture. This kid has a ton of talent and is surrounded by...talent. PP, 5 on 5 this kid can do it all. woot woot. I'm in heaven with this pickup.

Your riskiest pick: 10.03 Simon Gagne. 2010 Simon Gagne could be problematic. LA Kings Gagne with hot looking movie star girls watching..va va voom.

Thoughts on your own team: Did you ever see Major League, specifically the scene with Willie Mays Hays doing the happy dance when he finds out that he made the cut for the Cleveland Indians? Okay well you’d think I’d have done that with the acquisition of Sid the Kid, but I didn’t. My biggest concern was goaltending. I think I may have made the wrong decision on my g keeper. But after 3 tosses and 2 turns I was convinced that Nashville will not repeat last year’s performance and for a longterm goalie option Rinne may not have been the man. Plus Suter or Weber will eventually depart Nashville. Rinne will stick around. They don’t have the money to pay all of them.
Also, just look at LA, that is an amazing roster. I think LA has more depth and will be superb with Doughty back in the mix. I think Quick will get more Wins and will have a similar save percentage, but very few shutouts.
Now onto Sid, well with the offer being made by PD, I threw out Toews. Why Toews, because he’s young and talented and is an all round talent. I did a few calculations and figured if Crosby played ¾ of this season it would be a push. If Sid is out all season then the winner of the deal is obvious. And besides any player with a concussion is high risk (Lindros, Lombardi, Savard) to have a shortened career. Also I was waiting on news of his condition. My team was pretty loaded so if the prognosis was retirement I would have dumped him and kept Taylor Hall.
Now this years draft. WOW!!!
2.03 Jeff Carter? Are you kidding me awesome young talent now working with Rick Nash. I don’t think he’d be available this late if he was in Philly.
3.10 Phil Kessel? 30 goals and 300 shots. Now work on your horrible plus/minus
4.03 PK Subban? Holy cheese this guy will get me PIMS, and powerplay time, shots and assisss.
5.10 Logan Couture? Will negate Kessels plus/minus stats…and Couture can score goals
6.03 Reimer? Risky pick. Toronto needs to play the same type of hockey they play in February. Well he is my third stringer.
7.10 Suter? Webers partner in crime. Not as offensively gifted but an sturdy point producer and 2d dman
8.03 Gonchar? With Clouston gone maybe he can turn it around with the new coaching staff. Anderson will help reduce the goals against problem. Hopefully last season was a hiccup.
9.10 Stafford? Another player who will put up good numbers in all categories. He won’t hurt a team but he’s not going to be a monster in any category
10.03 Gagne? Goodbye Tampa Bay. Please play better in LA.
11.10 Staal? Put up good numbers after returning from Injury. With Malkin back in the line up the focus will not be on him as much.
This list can go on but a few more names that stand out.
Grabovski just sat at the top of the Yahoo! Pile for so long. What are you guys anti-Maple Leaf? He had the best numbers for a 13th rounder and he had a great preseason. a curse on you Leaf haters.
Berglund? Hear that, crickets, that's because he plays in St. Louis. The home of Backes, Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk, Halak, Stewart, and Oshie. Blues are quietly building a good young team. Not on par with LA or Edm but they have a good nucleus.
Once again my d is not up to par with everyone else and I will suffer in these positions. My goaltending is sketchy too. Other than that my Offensive is nothing more than offensive.
Iggy, Ovie, Crosby, Carter, Kessel, Couture, Stafford, Gagne, Staal, Gionta, Grabovski, Berglund, Michalek. I think that’s a well balanced team that can withstand Crosby's absence and very capable of putting up good numbers in every category.

Sleeper pick on your team: Patrik Berglund St Louis

Sleeper pick of the draft: David Backes 3.03, Ira, 27th pick. Does St Louis ever get any respect in the NHL? No. That’s why this pick is a good sleeper.
Honorable mention to Ondrej Pavelic, G, tommyd, 68th pick, rnd 6.08. I believe this guy has loads of talent, but he’s playing on the wrong team. If Winnipeg plays well defensively he’ll put up good numbers. He’ll keep the team in every game.

Name the manager who stole the one player you had really wanted and name that player: Goldcoach took Jammy Jagr very early. I had him on my radar but had him ranked to go somewhere in the 11th round. He’s 39 and needs to stay healthy. He’s surrounded by talent and he’ll need it because his skills have diminished. If he stays healthy he’ll put up some good numbers but doesn’t really warrant a third round pick. There were too many good players ahead of him.

Thoughts on other teams:
I love Filthys D. Questionable pickup of Schneider as he’s a backup goalie. As a result of these pickups he may struggle to be competitive in the forward category. I expect him to micromanage his team this year to keep competitive.

LittleM takes the title of drafting the 1st overall pick away from me. He’ll do okay with Sedin, Kane, Green, Doughty, Pavelski, Skinner, Stastny. Mason, G, should do well with Columbus’ new arrivals. A few more wins coming his way this year.

PermDude. I thought long and hard about taking E. Staal over Carter. I even did two mock Yahoo! Drafts and put myself in the 11th position to see where these guys would be taken and then it was a coin flip because they went back to back in the mock drafts with no clear winner. I think PD is a winner with Staal, Parise, Morrow, Bufflin and they’ll make up for the loss of Crosby. Good support cast for his keepers with this bunch. I don’t think he’ll win, but that’s because I’m biased because he drafted the dirtiest player evah, Matt Cooke. Dirty!!!

GoldCoach – hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, Jagr, Jagr, Jagr might have been a reach but if it works you’ll be okay. If it doesn’t hang on cause you also have a rookie in Landeskog, Niederreiter, and a sophomore in Eberle on a defensively inept Oilers team (sorry Ira, they got nothing back there…sorta like my butt…non existant), and rookies seldom are a good plus minus value. Liles could also be big negative plus minus players.

Taxman..always so close but missing that one player to put him over the top. But is this the year??? If this years analysis is true then you’re gonna love Malkin. If it ain’t I’d be getting rid of Wolski, Voracek pretty quickly and get some help to prop up the goals and assists. Sharp. Has. To. Stay. Healthy. But then again he knows his stuff, history tells us that Taxman is very aggressive on the FA wire so he’ll be watching these guys. Goaltending should not be a problem for you this year.

Cobwebs, probably the most active manager during the draft for chatter and very much appreciated. Your love of Senators is admirable, hopefully they can turn things around at the expense of the Sabres and Habs. The Leafs always have their number. Good luck with your Sens. Alfie needs it. Oshie is a good pickup. Sedin, Havlat (monster year in SJ), Van Riemsdyk will round out your offense. Bourque needs to step it up, he’s so disappointing to watch as he flashes brilliance but can’t seem to put it all together on a game by game basis.

Tommyd is solid and he snagged Fleischmann who could have a great year in Fla playing with Booth, Weiss and some young kid named Doublebubbleavidov. Campbell on D should help but the loss of Vokoun will be problematic. D-men on his team are not strong and it could bite you in the butt. Damn I wanted Hall back. He’ll eventually be a keeper but it’s a matter of when that year will be. He got Seguin too. Ha. Class of 2010, Hall and Seguin. Woot if he didn’t have such a good keeper list this would be a double keeper for many years. Good thing the vote deep sixed the additional keeper item.

Philflyboy grabbed Lucic an good player for getting points in all cats. D is also suspect, Markov and Pronger are illin’ and could be a bust if they don’t come back before Dec. Del Zotto should grab Staals icetime for now. Grabner should be fun to watch this year and Vokoun has to be the best FA goalie after Rinne. He’s backstopping Washington and that team will be fun to watch this year. Zajac and Seto will have to step it up.

Ira, not bad for a Cdn lost in Aus. I see big PIMs for this team. You should win that category hands down. Try a trade for bobby ryan and you’ll have the best all round line point line in rgfhl. I would categorize this team as a bunch of grinders, exception granted to Kovalchuk. These guys will get points the hard way and if Taveres breaks out this year you’ll have a tough decision with your keepers next year. Kovalchuk has to play the entire year for you to move up. If he doesn’t he’ll be an easy choice for dumpsville.

Wolfers pick of Kane of the Evander genus has sweetness written on it. That’s a good pick up in round 7. Frolik won’t hurt you with a full year in Chicago. Neal will have to pick it up in Pitt but if he plays like he normally does it’s a quality pick for all cats. I have no opinion on Hemsky, Ira knows the scoop on Oils. He’s going to be pushed by the young players so expect a better year than last. Average D, and goaltending could be problematic with Niemis cyst, Montoya playing on a weak team. You’ll need to have Crawford playing like a young Brodeur to keep you competitive.

And finally The Dienasty, last place, gives you first pick and he snags my drop, Rinne. Nice. He started a goalie run that kills the bottom drafters chance of getting a second stud goalie. Hartnell, Malone, Corvo will get you the PIM’s and Pominville needs to pick up the goals and assists to help you move back into contention. Hossa needs to be healthy. Dienasty will be listening to a lot of Sabre games…Koivu playing with Heatley and Setoguchi could turn out to be very lucrative. Nice goalie combo, okay D, and another grinding offense. Should be out of the basement this year.

Predict the top 3 mgrs:
First: tommyd
Second: CSF (Crosby and Iggy injuries will reoccur)
Third: PermDude

Nice recap CSF, thanks for sharing. Grabovski is a C, at the time I had other needs to fill, don't think that we are all Leaf haters, though I must admit that I'm a little allergic;-)

Berglund was a nasty pick. I'd been tracking him for about 4 rounds it seemed but just could never work him in at a good time. Oh the perils of drafting back-to-back...

Some malware has prevented me from getting all my notes, or draft software (working through it, but my machine might be another week in the cleaning).

But I did want to post before the draft faded too far back.

Pre-draft, my move to get Toews for Crosby will be absolutely brilliant if Crosby doesn't play a game again, of course. And if he plays at the point-and-a-half-a-game pace he is clearly capable of when healthy it'll look like a very real step down for me.

But if Crosby has the season he did last year (great play in the 40 or so games he played) then I take this league, hands down. Toews is a young player getting a point a game, and his +25 last year will be a real help.

I had to drop Cooke, CSF--didn't really want him but thought I'd try to catch Ira in PIM (which I don't think I will anyway unless Avery finds a full time job somewhere and I pick him up).

Last year my team was helped by my goalies, and I've taken a step back with this squad. As Dienasty points out, if Roloson have a good year then I'm back in it--if I can squeeze 30 wins and 4 SO out of him then I will have top 5 stats between the pipes, I think.

More as I get my documents back!

Congrats to the LA Kings. 2012 Stanley Cup Champs...one of the best 8th seeded teams ever. Underacheived all season long, overacheived on the road during the playoffs. One loss on the road. Knocked off 1st, 2nd, and 3rd seeds in the West. Hell of a run.

Two of us picked the Kings to win it all. Way back in October. Props to Cobwebs for the Oct 5 call. Nice job.

Underacheived is right, they almost missed the playoffs, but what a run they had, well deserved champions.
A pity that I didn't put some money on them:-(
