Tried a new approach in drafting this year with an eye towards picking scorers and goalies at the expense of offensive Dmen. We will see how that works out

Your best value pick(s): Pick# 11.04 Joe Thornton C San Jose .. yeah, he's old, but he is still an assist machine generating @ 45 points, will center San Jose top line and power play unit where he will add 15-18 PPP and with Marleau gone his ice time will remain @ 18 min/game.

Your riskiest pick(s): Pick# 3.04 Matthew Tkachuk LW Calgary .. a break out candidate after strong rookie year .. but sophomore slumps are real and if he takes a step back rather than forward, my offense will suffer.

Thoughts on your own team: My team should be competitive in the scoring & PIM cats but not so much in +/-, hits and goalie stats. My Dmen are bottom of the barrel.

Sleeper pick on your team: Pick# 13.04 Andre Burakovsky LW Caps .. Scored 35 points as a 3rd line winger and limited PP time but with Marcus Johnson now in NJ, Burakovsky minutes should increase by 50% and PP time should double possibly leading to a 50+ point season and double digit PPPs. ..or not .. why he is sleeper material

Sleeper pick of the draft: Pick# 9.07 Evgenii Dadonov by SuperFreak AND Pick#13.05 Vadim Shipachyov by PD

Name the manager who stole the one player you had really wanted: PD .. twice

Name that player: John Klingberg and Alexander Wennberg

Thoughts on other teams:
foot...solid Goalies, Good top end talent and ability to score in all categories secondary scorers have to produce for a repeat
Little M...best Goalie and 9 scorers..2nd worse Dmen (to mine) will need to find 2 more Goalies to be a threat
Rich...Quality top Goalie, Dmen and wings from quality teams, but weak up the middle and 2nd/3rd Goalie could disappoint
Toral... can score in all categories & found value with last 6 picks. Could be great season if Darling stops enough pucks.
Nick...Solid draft, could have excellent Goalies, strong up the middle. Col players need a rebound season for this team to succeed
Superfreak...Can you spell OFFENSE? Giroux a steal pick 27 after 48 keepers. SF's fate is tied to his Goalies. If Goalies were not required probably runs off with title.
Dynasty...What a draft magician 2 solid Goalies, quality scorers and a bit of muscle. Kesler at the end should be gold last half of season.
PD...Employed a Dmen 1st theory to draft when others were loading offense. PD found his offense in the back half of draft including 2 IR players who will provide reinforcements @ Xmas time or earlier. Goalies are suspect, Henrick because of age and Big Ben because he keeps for my Stars.
Cobwebs...Lotsa youth, bankable Goalies and Radko Gudas .. an inspired draft.
TommyD...Stamkos (needs to be healthy for full season) and Macdavid form best center tandem in league. Solid if not best Goalie tandem in league, but in this league, 2 is not enough. Hall is great, but can Hoffman repeat? Wilson and Phanuaf provide muscle, but the roster feels hollow after these studs.
Radio Roberts...Wolfer is missing muscle and scoring depth

Other noteworthy items:

What was he thinking! Worst manager miscue of the draft (let's have some fun with this one): Little M at pick# 8.02 Antii Niemi...as a Stars fan, spent much of last season in pain watching Niemi's ineptitude. My problem, not little M's

Predict the top 3 mgrs:

First: Superfreak
Second: Foot
Third: tie Rich & Little M

Stanley Cup Winner: Toronto (over Edmonton)

The Panarin trade messed things up a bit for me, not sure how Panarin will produce without Kane, so I decided to keep MacKinnon instead,
he has not been good since his rookie year but he shoots a lot and is only 22, and he owes me big time, so I'm crossing my fingers.

Your best Value picks:
4.10 Jacob Trouba - contract year, helps me in all categories which is good. Once Faulk was off the board I figured it was time.
5.03 Jonathan Toews- bounceback time, reunited with Saad and some changed offseason conditioning will do wonders.
10.10 Radko Gudas - he's a quick fix for hits and PIM, and won't hurt me much in other categories.

Your riskiest pick(s):
6.10 Torey Krug - injured in preseason, will miss some games, don't know how the injury will affect his production.
Did not take any other big risks, all seemed like good value picks when I made them.

Thoughts on your own team:
It was an OK draft for me, my team will do well in all categories except maybe hits (tried to gain ground with quick fixes like Trouba, Niskanen and Gudas)
Many of my picks have some upside, so I'm hoping for a better season than the last one.

Sleeper pick on your team:
15.03 Nick Schmaltz - worth a gamble if he sticks with Kane, maybe he'll do better than Panarin;-)

Sleeper pick of the draft:
13.05 Vadim Shipachyov (PermDude) - an unknown commodity on a "new" team, could be a diamond in the rough.
17.06 Ryan Kesler (The Dienasty) - a sleeper pick because he's out until X-mas, great value pick in the last round.

Name the manager who stole the one player you had really wanted and name that player:
6.08 John Klingberg (PermDude) - was on top of my Q, should do much better this season.
9.04 Gabriel Landeskog (SuperFreak Jr) - he dropped a few rounds and was on top of my Q.
4.09 Brandon Saad (Taxman) - was on top of my Q, will do well back in Chicago.

Thoughts on other teams:
tommyd: McDavid, Stamkos and Dubnyk is a good base to build on, needs to pick up some forward reserves.
wolfer: A balanced team, nice D-man core, and Vasilevsky is a nice pickup if he can handle the workload.
PermDude: Fantastic D, looks like he punted Hits.
Filthy: The team to beat, well balanced team.
Taxman: A contender, waited a long time to fill out his D, but did well.
LittleM: Very good skaters, but needs some luck with his goalies.
CSF: Needs production from his goalies, looks like he punted PIM.
The Dienasty: Good draft, cound win it again with his value picks Kesler and Kopitar.
SuperFreak Jr: Nice draft. a strong contender for the title.
Toral: Is strong in many categories, but also has some weak ones to adress.
mailedfoot: Looks like he ignored +/-, has a few iffy players.

What was he thinking! Worst manager miscue of the draft:
9.02 Ryan McDonagh (tommyd), using him at C had me scratching my head.
17.09 Sam Reinhart (Toral), the pick is not allowed, League rules says that all starter spots have to be filled to prevent hoarding, Toral probably didn't get the memo.

Predict the top 3 mgrs:
First: filthy
Second: Taxman
Third: SuperFreak Jr

Cup Winner:

Your best value pick(s):
Larkin (Pick 205) he's due to fulfill his potential; hopefully the Wings won't drag him down. Kane (pick 132) should provide good value at this slot

Your riskiest pick(s):
Anderson (Pick 60) and Hischier (Pick 180) Not sure how well Ottawa will be defensively as a team and Hischier may still be a year or two away

Thoughts on your own team:
Had trouble deciding who to keep as there were about 8-9 players I would have liked to have back. I feel like I did okay considering the draft slot I was in. As Cobwebs noted, I pretty much ignored +/-, will address it as the season goes along.

Sleeper pick on your team:
Mantha (pick 181) Like Larkin he has potential to be great; it remains to be seen how it shakes out this year playing on the Wings

Sleeper pick of the draft: Not sure about this; Anders Bjork and Nolan Patrick are nice late round sleepers

Name the manager who stole the one player you had really wanted: Cobwebs

Name that player: Had my eye on Trouba as 3rd D man

Thoughts on other teams:
League looks balanced to me; proactive managers will probably take control

Other noteworthy items:

What was he thinking! Worst manager miscue of the draft (let's have some fun with this one):
After last year, I should probably pass on this

Your best value pick(s):
There's an earlier pick that I could see being a keeper possibility for this format in the 4th round with Kadri. Or a late pick that I think is due to really blossom in the 12th round with Horvat.

Your riskiest pick(s):
Hellebuyck in the 5th probably. Early for a bench spot, and a wild card backup goalie at that. Mason presence does not scare me one bit though. Or perhaps the collection of youth on offense could be too big of a risk.

Thoughts on your own team:
Some juggling to do still. Liking the goalies for now. Relative to recent seasons it's looking better at least. Defense looks strong but ended up with one too many. Offense looks a bit young. Some vets in there, but not exciting vets. Needing more than a few guys to show growth this year. Liking the chances considering some of the situations these guys are entering.

Sleeper pick on your team:
Of all the sleepers on my team, I think Horvat is my favourite to improve on his draft slot next year. Hopeful on about 5 others.

Sleeper pick of the draft:
Just to spite me like Bobrovsky has done, I think Varlamov is going to return to form again this year. Not terribly late picks but I think Aho and Ekblad are going to pay off well for where they were drafted.

Name the manager who stole the one player you had really wanted:
Little M

Name that player:
Panarin. Seemed like a real sweet pick that made it oh so close.
Wouldn't have minded to see Huberdeau or Nylander make it back for the 3rd round.
Bergeron, Jones, Aho stand out on the next pass around.
Couture and Ekblad next.
Landeskog and Okposo next.
Late is a crapshoot, Wilson, Chara, Dell, Saros stands out at one stretch.

Thoughts on other teams:
Some good turnover ahead in this league I fear. Some of these young superstars are ready to carry a team to a title here. Goaltending still rules the day though.
My personal fave goalie situations in no order would be Tax, Tommy, Cobwebs. Defense I like Wolfer, Dienasty and Perm. Offense I like CSF, LittleM, Cobwebs.

Other noteworthy items:
Thanks for commish and co-commish for running this.

What was he thinking! Worst manager miscue of the draft (let's have some fun with this one):
To double up on him proving me wrong, I'll call out the Varlamov pick. Will end up being a huge letdown. Or maybe it's just me that he hates.
Also, I found waiting on goalie was quite a surprise with Little M. Thought for sure I'd land Panarin while he drafted one of the leftovers at goalie. Smart call waiting.

Predict the top 3 mgrs:
First: Cobwebs seemed to be one of my faves.
Second: Tommyd has this McDavid kid and some solid looking goaltending.
Third: And we gotta be in for a 6 way tie among all the other teams I listed.
So in reality, the other teams I didn't mention will be jinx free on their way to a podium.

Stanley Cup Winner:
Ovechkin takes over this year, he's super jealous of all the younger players. Caps turn.
