Thought I’d start a thread. Let’s get to that $85 million magic number.

Currently 137 teams registered. $50 mill to build a roster of 12 players. 4 trades a week.

If I remember correctly, try not to burn trades too early, follow schedules, look for value picks, insulate your roster with players that won’t have wild $ swings and hope for no early injuries.

I picked up Saros on one team, I’m thinking that might have been a mistake.. 9 mill on a goalie.

If you want to scroll back to old TSN chatter I think it’ Page 11 and beyond.

Yesterday I had to make a few trades on Team Baconater because Taylor Hall went down with an injury which will keep him out a few weeks. Rather than just trading him i also moved out of Tyler Johnson and moved over to Buffalo. Buffalo had 7g in 13 days (now 6 in 12) which looked like a long term hold for these positions.
After watching last nights game against the Rangers, they looked like the same old Sabres.

I'm at the top of the leaderboard at the moment and money is being made. Still a lot of rust to shake off in order to understand price movements for making money.

Christian....Today you sit in 2nd and 3rd points overall and 4th and 9th in $. Great start.

I am at other end of standings. Put my first two teams together w/o any consideration of schedule (sigh). Just entered a third team this morning hoping that a better plan of attack will get better results. Week ahead seems to favor TB. We will see. It's a long season.

Not going to lie, I created a team on Day 3 and quickly realised I didn't have the commitment level to be joining.

Love the $85m reference, I'm thinking it must have had its 20 year anniversary over the past couple years at some point. I'm 35 now and I'd be surprised if I was any older than 14 or 15 when I started that thread!

Ira, you nailed the committment level. It's taking more time that I expected. I think it's due navigating through the website and remembering how things worked (points vs $, balancing rosters, etc). Anyway, I see that there is a prize for winning this thing, so I'll stay invested for awhile.

Week 1 is in the books and I'm in good shape. Up in roster value while being competitive in points.
7 trades on 1 team, 4 fresh trades on the other.

I think the big gainer will be Auston Matthews. Hard to pass on when he's already has 6 goals in 2 games.

Some quirks of the website that bug me.
1) My default sport is football when I log in.
2) The player lists are sorted by total points
3) I would have additional sort options based on player name, and by team. No idea why we can't sort by the player name or NHL team.

But, for the rookie managers, they are going to chase points, so having the default sort option as points is not a bad thing. :)

Tampa only plays 3 in 8, and Stamkos is questionable.

Toronto plays 3 in 6 with the matchup against TB (and Florida).

Calgary and Buffalo have the best schedules in the next week. Buffalo looks terrible (i picked 2 players early hoping for better results) and Calgary is still last years Calgary.

Detroit's schedule is decent. 8 in 15.
Arizona 4 in 6 beginning tonight.
In 3 days Anaheims schedule looks good.

Went Eichel > Matthews.
Saros > Shesterkins. Don't like Saros matchup against the Oil.

Some other things starting to come back to me.
Always keep some roster $ on hand. If you max out your team $ it makes it harder for the 1 for 1 trades.

and i seem to recall some lengthy discussions about trading players playing on their game day?

Hi Superfreak -

Regarding the quirks you found..

1) My default sport is football when I log in.
2) The player lists are sorted by total points
3) I would have additional sort options based on player name, and by team. No idea why we can't sort by the player name or NHL team.

1. It's defaulting to football because you created a football team. The site currently doesn't know that you only want to manage the hockey team. I'm going to implement a change that will make your default sport equal to the last sport you were using.

2. I guess you are suggesting the player list should be sorted by PPG? Or maybe you're thinking it should have something to do with the near-term schedule?

3. I'm currently working on the ability to filter on team. It'll be in place in the next couple of days.

A couple of questions for you:

Do you think filtering on team will give you what you need, or do you think it's better to sort by team. If you sort by team then you'll need to click "Next Page" many times to get to Vegas...

I honestly don't understand the need to sort on player name. If you're looking for a particular player, then there's a search feature. I can add a sort on name easily, I just am curious about why/when you would use this?

Thanks for playing the game. I really appreciate your feedback, keep it coming.

Tom! Good to hear from you and thanks for responding. Good work on the site. I hope it takes off and becomes successful.
Sometimes i'm not that clear on my issues but, I'm still navigating the site and discovering all the new and useful features. Some of my quirks might be due to the fact I haven't found the optimal way of navigating through the site.

1) Ah, okay, no problem thanks for clearing up the football issue. I panicked, and created the football team to see if the buy option was available in football because I couldn't buy players in hockey. (the glitch you replied too).

2) Item 2, is no big deal, at first I couldn't figure out how players where sorted and then figured it out it was points. Not really a quirk, just an observation.

3) Sorting/Filtering by team would help. You can see the entire teams roster, and it's way to see the prices of all players on that team (plus you can see the teams price increases or decreases) and would assist if your tight on $.

Eg. if Vegas had a great schedule and I can't afford Eichel/Stone combo, it would be easy look at the all Vegas players and do a salary calculation to determine who i can add to my roster.

Check out Daily face off as a example. I use it to look at the team schedule and roster.
https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/nhl-weekly-schedule

4) After thinking it through some more, sorting by player name may not be ideal.

Hoping I can help you out with the forum chatter here (probably not the right spot anymore with all the social media outlets and such).

++++++
Matthews price was great, but Hoglander was the man. Hoglander's price increase was huge for the cost to buy him.

Thanks a lot for all the information.

I'm going to spend some time making sure there is an option to see players by team.

I also will review the dailyfaceoff site, it's helpful to know what tools people are using.

Thanks also for starting this thread, yes, every bit helps. I still like the old thread formats like this where you can sequentially see what people are thinking...

Up to 149 teams registered in hockey. 8 teams with zero points, they could be abandoned or trying new strats. Who knows.

3 teams have already crossed the $52 mill mark. dbeehalteriii (BackforPay) is #1 in RV and he's using his trades very effectively to generate high RV and points. He's got a knack for making Presidents.

My plan is to get enough RV so I can hold McDrai as soon as possible (obviously move them out during schedule breaks, but it won't be too often). Right now it's tricky because they'd chew up almost $25 mill, and having the remaining $25-$26 mill to fill 10 roster spots and make RV would be challenging. I could always test this out by creating a new team. So for now it's just work on RV and take the points where you can get them.

Tom has done an excellent job of implementing changes. He's revamped the schedule and has added the ability to find players by their team. It should really cut down your research time for managing your team. For those folks with little time, it sure will help. It's now a one stop shop for hockey research.

Anyone remember low roster value? Getting your team to the lowest roster value with a full team. Good times. Good times.

I've talked myself into it. I'm creating team McDrai.

Fosten, i'll keep my eye on your team(s). I see your moving in the right direction on your salary cap/points team. Good job.

Tom and Tax also moving up in roster value and we have Ira is hanging around hopefully he can check in when he has time.
Let's go Gurupians!

Some teams have gained over $3 million in salary in the last 2 weeks while losing very little ground on the points.

My team McDrai is a bust. McDavid out for a week or two. The other two teams are competitive.

Detroit coming out hot, is this years New Jersey.
Boston what can be said about this team. They are so consistent - in the regular season.
Carolina and NJD looking mediocre
Edmonton, Cup or bust.
Philly off to a good start. Having Coutourier and Atkinson healthy is key.

Buffalo, Montreal, Minnesota, San Jose, Washington, and New Jersey with 4 games this week.

Christian, Fosten, Ira, Tom ???

Let's do a "race to the bottom $" forming teams on Jan 1, 2024. the more the merrier! How much money can you lose? Points are irrelevant.

Tax, i'm in.

You're on fire with RV money, good to see you moving up the standings as well. Well done my friend.

I've been struggling recently with all my teams.

Honestly, i'm distracted, recently did a drive down from Canada to the bottom of the Baja Peninsula to escape the winter. I'm enjoying the hot weather. Living in Cabo has it merits, watching waves (and the odd bikini), while sipping tequila....retirement problems. :)

Hot weather, Cabo, waves, tequila... sounds nice. Also, good reason to ignore fantasy teams.

If I was a gamblin' man i'd put all my $ on Tax. Taxman's RV is insane. You will be able to afford HV players with minimal trade manipulation. Fantastic work on your RV.

Tom, good job on the recent updates. I like that you have hidden the # of trades a team has banked/spent.

What a fun game this is. I forgot how good salary cap games are.

Great job on the game Tom! I really enjoyed the format.

fdarvea did an incredible job of managing his roster, trades, and FV. A well deserved victory.

Taxman crushed it with the highest RV. He had a gift of get maximum $ value from his trades. If the season would have ran another week I think you would have moved into the top 3.
Do you have the same knack of picking stocks? If so help me out :)

I don't think i'm eligible for a prize, but what the heck, it was a lot of fun.
