0 Subject: 500K Division?

Posted by: Fosten
- [29427106] Wed, Sep 20, 13:10

PermDude was the organizer of this little project during baseball season, and I think alot of people had a fun time with it. The Rules for this division are:

1. All draftees must be priced at $500K;
2. You must have a full roster of these players at the time of the first roster freeze;
3. All subsequent buys must be players priced $1 million or less, even formerly-owned players;
4. We get to pick a mascot that must be on all intial rosters!
4a. You do not have to keep the mascot on your roster after the first roster freeze.

Since this is Perm Dude's baby, I'll let him take over from here, but I just wanted to bring up the idea to see if there was any interest.

anyone can join as long as you follow the above rules.

ok I did some research for an official mascot for 500k hockey and some possiblities are:
Kevin Brown
Phillip Crowe
Michel Picard
Terry Virtue
and my personal favorite slava butsayev---I saw him play in hershey Pa and every time he skated past us the guys in front of us would yell BUTT SAVE. (think about it)

philflyboy - Thanks for the early AM laugh. My question is, did he get it? My jaw is hurting from LoL.

I'd be interested in playing. I did better picking the cheapies last season than with the 1st liners.

I'll put a team in the division today or tomorrow.

Thanks again for the laugh.

I guess I'll try my hand here as well. I did the baseball 500K division, which was kind of interesting--certainly different strategy involved!

I'll even dig out some (cheap) hockey memorabilia to give away as prizes. Let's keep it the same as baseball:

-top manager: points (midseason and final)
-top manager: roster value (midseason and final)
-team with the most players in the ASG (in baseball, no one had an AS player on their roster, fyi).

Hey, what's with the no rookies rule? Seems to me that the hockey players association is really kicking SW around. Ducats? No rookies? What's next, start calling penalty minutes "enlightenment time?"

I like the Butt Save mascot; he could be the Mike Colangelo of the hockey boards.

My vote is for Kevin Brown just because his baseball counterpart is so good. Who knows, maybe he'll be like him, hockey wise

there seems to be a problem with picking a 500K goalie when the lowest goalie is 1M i'm assuming that well just pick up two 1M goalie.

I saw that about the goalie I would say that you have to pick 2 goalies that are worth 1M and then you can buy one that is up to 2M after the first freeze. Anyone else have any thoughts on that one?

if you are going to play you MUST have your team submitted by the price freeze on wed. All position players must cost 500k and the goalies all need to cost 1 mil. After the price freeze on wed. you may purchase position players that cost 1 mil or less and goalies that cost 2 mil or less.

Slava Butsayev must be on your team at the price freeze on Wed. You may sell him after that time.

Good luck and lets have some fun with this. Thanks perm dude for supplying prizes for this game.

PD, I know what you mean. I actually had "Trade Withdrawl" this morning when I opened up my Baseball teams and started considering moves to make and realized I didn't have to make any.

For a moment it was sad, but right now it's total relief. Too many hockey numbers to crunch before Thursday!

See what I mean? I'm all kinds of screwed up!

The sad part? I actually looked at my watch to see what day it is so that I could figure out the day of the week that the season would start and I still got it wrong. Where am I going to be without the Baseball Weekend matchups not letting me know what day it is? Oh well, I guess that's what MNF is for. :)

I need a note of clarification on the 500k rules. Can your players only cost 500k on opening day or can they cost between 500k and 1 Mil? I'm assuming that the goalie instructions mean not over 1 Mil rather than 1-2 Mil. Thanks for the help. Looking forward to the 500k challenge!

All players (except goalie) must be at 500K on Opening Day. After that, all buys (except goalie) must be priced at 1 mill or less when you buy them.

Substitute 1 mill at 2 mill for the goalies.

I think I'm going to miss the first game, too.

Anyone know anything more about Kalanin? RotoNews projects him as getting some early-season ice time because of injuries to other Sabre defenders. I'm not able to confirm this, though.

Also, is there a site that has team depth charts? Out of the game for a year and I can't even remember the simple stuff. Argh! At least it's a long season.

just a reminder that the teams were to be drafted BEFORE the first price freeze. All teams have to draft people who cost 500K and then trade them to upgrade after the first price freeze.

Perm Dude is the leader of this so maybe he will allow people to draft until tomorrows price freeze as long as everyone is 500k that would be his call but you would still have to draft 500kers for fairness sake

I agree, philflyboy CoGuru Jr. (your name now sounds like a latin dance craze).

If you are going to miss the freeze today, your "Opening Day" just gets moved to the first day you have a complete roster.

Just got some nice prize stuff in today, hehe. You guys are going to love it. Now, I gotta ship out those baseball 500K prizes.

Thanks, Code Cracker. I was on the McKeen site and overlooked that page.

I like their prospects page (especially for 500K drafting!). It will be interesting to see how they pan out as the season progresses.

So, technically speaking, since I had a full "valid" 500k roster at the freeze, I can trade 5 guys up for tomorrows games, correct?

yes KKB that is correct as long as you had the 500k roster at the start you may now buy people who are worth up to 1 mil. good luck in finding the cheapies.

More like "good luck in finding any that are on an NHL roster" :)

This should be quite fun and interesting for an entire season just trying to get guys that are scoring any points or that are even in a lineup.

Well, I don't mind sharing a few names of guys (all these may have been mentioned elsewhere, too, but not in the 500K division context):

G - Cloutier (TOR), $2mill [just named the starter for the first game. Buy hum now before the price goes up]

D - Kalinin (BUF), $500K [looks to see some ice time 'til the regulars get back. Possible money train, but more likely a money shuttle].

C - Saprykin (CAL), $500K [great preseason for this 19 year old, something like 7 goals]

C - Krog (NYI), $750. [Who the hell knows what's going on with this team. Krog had a good pre-season & will get some opportunities the first couple weeks, anyway, to show his stuff. For what it's worth, I put him on my #1 team.]

There are more (in fact, I have a list of guys that I'm checking schedules on) but I'm too damned tired to post anymore tonight. Finding a cheap goalie is the key, I think, and I suspect that rookie backup goalies are really the group to keep an eye on to succeed in this division.

Cloutier is battling Weekes in Tampa for the starting job. Kinda looks like he gets the nod in the first game.

BTW shouldn't all our frozen rosters have $1,000,000 goalies.
43KrazyKoalaBears

Only for the freeze following your draft. If you drafted a FULL team in time for the first freeze, then you are allowed to buy Goalies up to $2-mil and Pos Players up to $1-mil for the rest of the season.

If you did not have a full roster for the first freeze, then you have to have the $500K/$1-mil team for today's freeze, ten you can upgrade for tomorrows games

44J
      ID: 50726110

KKB - I cant think of a good way to explain it, so I'll give a situational description...

You draft your 500K right now.

You MUST buy 2 goalies priced at or less than $1mil. You may immediatly sell them for any goalies priced less than $2mil. The key is burning the trades not keeping them on your roster.

Make sense?
45KrazyKoalaBears
      ID: 36412411
      Thu, Oct 05, 08:54
Yea, it makes sense. For some reason, I thought we had to have our drafted roster through 1 freeze, but I guess it doesn't really matter anyhow so long as you draft $500k, then burn the trade to "upgrade"
46KrazyKoalaBears

Hey PD, one more. I'm not seeing Krog on the NYR roster anywhere. Any info?

So a team with two $2,000,000 goalies (crotch save) should not be a valid team as of the first viewing of other frozen rosters.

they'd need to "burn" 2 trades ASAP.

God, I was tired last night.

Cloutier is getting the TAMPA first game. Remains to be seen what kind of time he'll get as the season goes on, but there are few, if any, goalies at this price assured of any starts right now.

Let me clarify the late-starting freeze thing. Or, at least make clear my view of it: If you did not draft a team by yesterday's freeze, your team, at today's freeze, must be at 500K. You can trade out of the players only after today's freeze. Does this make it more clear? Does this screw anyone? I hope not, but e-mail me if so. Anyone with a violent disagreement can certain e-mail me and maybe we'll decide on a solution together. But do try to do it this way.

krog is listed in the usatoday rosters as with the Isles AHL affiliate.....PERM....I didn't have a team filled yesterday, but once the first freeze has come through you have to burn trades to pick anyone up....anyways, before I read this thread that was the impression that I was under, and picked up cloutier....I didn't know.

Remember in baseball when you used to get all your trades at the beginning of the year? That's what they should do for this division, 'cause early on we're going to be trade maniacs and late in the year we won't know what to do with all the trades (since we can't pick guys up over our maximum once we drop them).

I'm just hoping at least half my guys get ice time at all. It's hard enough to get the first and second line guys straight, let alone fourth (and worse!) line guys for this division.
