Subject: Schedules, Schedules, and more Schedules

Ok, so I made a 21-day schedule (who hasn't) but have made it more similar to the schedules I made for Football. In other words, the schedule not only shows you the days of a scheduled game, but also the opponent, the opponents Points For (Goals + Assists), the opponents Points Against (Goals + Assists), and the average PF and PA for the opponents number of games played. Since this is pretty coding intensive, I've only made one for Boston so far, with others to follow if response is good. Check it out and let me know what you think. And let me know of any errors if you see/find any. |

instead of "DAY" I would put "DATE" When you say "Points" is that SW Points or what?
You dont know anything about hockey either! ;)

Yea, well you don't know anything about Schedules! ;) I had an issue with the whole "Date"/"Day" thing because the code I'm using doesn't really allow for me to put the actual date "10/16/00" without adding a significant amount of coding, so I decided to number the schedule to match the "21-day Schedule" title. That being said, do you still think it should be "Date"? Just trying to give some reasoning even though I know nothing about dates. Also, the "Points" is in regular Hockey terms (i.e.- the total Goals and Assists scored by all players of the opposition such that a Goal that included 2 assists would count for 3 points against a team.), not SWP terms. I'm not sure that I would be able to do a SWP version just because of the logistics of keeping track of everything, not to mention the inability to use the SW database. How could this column be better named? Suggestions?

I like your schedule. My suggestions:
1. Make it a 30 day schedule but also make it a full month at a time. That way instead of saying day 1 and not being sure of when day 1 is, then day 1 would be the 1st day of the month. You would be able to label it at the top then as to what month it would be reading for.
2. It should have been for the Flyers that way I would know when they play. ;)
It looks good shows when they are coming up with games and also the caliber of the teams that they are playing. Should be very usable

philflyboy, that still presents an issue with the dates. The reason is because the easiest way to do the date with php is by using "day of the year", thus, what I see in the coding for the BOS page you're looking at is "Day 269", "Day 270", etc. But I think I'll just have to work around this and find a way to incorporate the actual date. 30 days, eh? Is this purely for the date thing, or do you think it would be more helpful? I figured that most people don't look beyond 3 weeks, but maybe I'll do 4 weeks (28 days) instead. Thoughts? Also, I added in "Goals For", "Assists For", "Goals Against", and "Assists Against" so that if you're looking at a player who only gets a lot of assists, you'll be able to see if a team is giving them up a lot. And I spruced up the colors a little. Check out the new version and let me know any more comments or suggestions.

Ok, so I figured out a way to do the actual date. Are you guys happy now? You guys don't know ANYTHING about calendars! ;) Check out the new and improved, date equipped, 28-day schedule.

I'm not sure your tool will be very useful for me... I prefer the schedule viewer cause I can compare with other team. From your page, I just see sell the Bruins and prepare a big buy for the 26, but it could be true also for others teams and I don't see myself opening 30 windows to check the best schedule.

Dec, good point. The original idea was that you would already have an idea which team you were looking at, but I may have to make an overall schedule that is then clickable to show the schedule that I'm making now to make it an "all-in-one" type of schedule. Interesting... (and more work) ;)

BUTT Sorry, hoops boy, somehow I managed to miss your post and I could have used the help. Thanks for offering though. ;) I think I've managed to get this thing working (still only for BOS), so everyone Give it a try. Also, if you want to link just to the team pages after this is all done, just let me know and I'll provide the neccessary links.

BTW, this will now be a 28-day schedule viewer for all 30 teams on one page that will link to each individual teams offense/defense matchups for their 28-day schedule. This way you can see which teams have a favorable number of games coming up and then scout those games for good matchups.

BUTT Ok, so I got really bored today and got all the schedules in. The only bug I've found so far is that the stats for the #1 Point Offense (LOS as of today) and for the #1 [worst] Point Defense (PHI as of today) don't show up when you go to the detailed schedule page for each team. The game will show up and the other stats will show up (DEF for LOS and OFF for PHI) so it's not too bad. I know what the problem is and should have it worked out in a day or two. Enjoy!
