bh is subtly showing his hockey knowledge by recognizing that in their best years under Smythe, the Leafs performed above average in the playoffs -- they rested their players a lot and didn't really care where they finished in the league so long as they were in the playoffs -- they concentrated on winning Lord Stanley's Cup.
That is, the "choke" reference is ironic.

The game was great. Too bad Kovalchuk didn't get a goal though. Watching the game was great as Legacy was in Goal and miced up live during the 3rd period.
