Kobe, Karl, Phil Jackson, Fisher all gone... and now Shaq demanding a trade...

As a Kings fan I am obviously happy about this. Where are they all headed?

Love to hear some predictions and ideas about where they are headed and who is replacing them...

How about Shaq back to Orlando? Seems feasible to me. Or Miami. You know he wants to go somewhere warm and big market.

The Knicks are always a destination for all these high profile guys. There's rumors about Kobe and the Clippers.

Anywhere in the Midwest can be ruled out for Shaq and Kobe. They have to be where the action is.

I would rule out the following for Shaq and Kobe:

Atlanta
Milwaukee
Detroit
Philly
Cleveland
Chicago
San Antonio
Boston
Toronto
Sacramento
Utah
Denver
Indiana

Who's left. Golden State, Seattle, Houston, LA Clippers, NY Knicks, Orlando, Miami, Dallas.

Gotta think Mark Cuban might go after both of them. How about the Rockets dumping Francis and Mobley and going after Kobe?

Just brainstorming.

The Washington Wizards can also be ruled out obviously. I don't think either of them will go to Portland either. Minnesota is way to cold and small market. Count them out too. Phoenix might be a player for both of them.

There was some rumors about Memphis and Kobe.

I hear Phoenix will probably go after Kobe and T-Mac to see which one they can land.

The problem is that all the teams that Shaq qould want to play for could not afford him. He made $26 million last year.

so how bad are the lakers going to suck if they lose both shaq and kobe.
My bet one of them will end up in the eastern conf.
Rumor
Phoneix is trying to dump Jahdi White Salary to clear some more cap space. They are including the 7th pick in the draft, so they are going after someone big. Rumor was kobe.

PHX is not offering the #7, they are offering a future 1st, which may be the one Cleveland owes them.

My money is on Kobe and Shaq returning. The Lakers are now Kobe's team and I just can't find a trade for Shaq that makes sense. 28MM is a lot of salary to match.

I very highly doubt Shaq moves anywhere. Kobe on the other hand, I think he will move somewhere.

I hear a Francis for McGrady is close to being finalized. Houston is the most likely home for him and Indiana is a backup. Francis was at odds with Van Gundy big time as I understand it.

Rumor has Mobley and Cato also involved

I like it for both teams

I reverse my statement in #8! ;-) Shaq has more possibilites than I had imagined. Rumors said Clips are a possibility for Kobe. I would hate that...stay with the Lakers where I can continue hating you! ;-)

T-Mac and Yao...that is going to be a dynamic combo. Although, if the Bobcats take J. Howard tomorrow in the expansion draft the deal no longer works...

So instead of Francis and Mobley hogging the ball in Houston, now it will be McGrady.

Poor Yao, he gets no respect.

I disagree MadDOG. T-mac averages 5.5 assists which is solid for a shooting guard like himself, and he is passing to Howard and Gooden (no-Yaos). He will still get his 28+, but he also wants to win. He will utilize Yao and I think his assists will see an increase. Yao had a lot of raw talent coming into the league. In only his second yr he gets 17.5 which is very respectable; however I except him to improve those numbers by 3.5-5.5 next season.

TMac is one of the biggest ball hogs in the game. I don't know how you can dispute that. Guess who was second in the entire NBA in "field goals attempted" (only Garnett shot more)

McGrady took 1566 shots last year an avg of 24 shots per game for the 67 games he played. He shot a paltry 41%. No wonder the Magic was horrible. Garnett shot 50%.

Francis and Mobley were 33rd and 36th on that list and both of them shot around 40%.

It's amazing how low of shooting percentages some of these big stars have. They just take alot of shots to get their scoring avgs up.

BTW, Yao Ming shot 52%. Go Yao. You the man.

Denver is also a possibility for Kobe. Not sure the length of the contract, err sentence yet though. ;)

Guards are going to shoot more. It's why they are called "shooting guards."

And they will always have lower shooting percentages, since they shoot from farther away than forwards or centers. Give McGrady Ming's shot selection and see which way his percentage goes.

My guess is that most of his shots would be blocked.

There's tons of shooting guards that shoot alot better than 41%.

BTW, you actually made my point with your post. My point is that Houston should be feeding the ball to Yao.

If he's shooting 52% and his shots are much closer to the basket than they should be feeding it to him. Right?

Another 'star' 'shooting guard' that likes to chuck up a lot of junk is Iverson. He takes some of the worst shots in the league and his huge ego doesn't come anywhere near his paltry shooting percentage.
I think Kobe also takes some poor shots. But the freaky thing is, a lot of them go in. He's a special player to be sure. But he does maybe try to do a little too much. His ego doesn't match his shooting percentage either.
PD- is it a given that the 'shooting guard' is going to be one of the best players on every team? I think the title refers more to their shooting range than the number of shots they should be taking. That depends on if you've got stars at other positions. Agree?
Hey mad dog...If you are confident your team is going to win a playoff series in 6 or 7 games, does that make you arrogant?

PR, the shooting guard is going to take the low-percentage shots, even if they are the best at it on the team. Put Ming on the perimeter and watch his percentage drop.

As for shot selection, I'm just saying that if a shooting guard got layups, turnarounds on the baseline, and dunks, they would have a high shooting percentage as well.

In other words, it's more than shooting percentage, to which I'm sure we can all agree.

Might we be jumping the gun on Kobe until after the trial? I mean this guy may not be allowed to play....instead in jail.

Put Ming on the perimeter and watch his percentage drop.

Yao's FG% would most certainly drop but Yao still has a pretty decent jumper. 54% of Yao's shots were jumpers and he shot them at a 44.1% Thats tied for 6th among all NBA players in FG% on jump shots. McGrady shoots jumpers 80% of the time and shoots less than 40% on those shots. Take away the 3 point shooting and hes a little ahead of Yao at 44.6%.
So you would have to think since Yao shoots it at a better rate from inside and outside that Van Gundy is going to want McGrady to feed Yao inside and might even rather have Yao take the outside jumper with the game on the line than McGrady, since they shoot it about the same between 12 and 22 feet.

Yeah wow, Kmart is bad.

Kmart Stats

46% of his shots are jumpers and he shoots them at 33.5% thats without adding his 28% 3 point shooting, which was probably like 4-14 for the year. Pretty sad.

I always argued with my buddies about his value - they think he is great at offense too - Hell, Ben Wallace would put 17 up and shoot 50% with Kidd handing him alley-oops to pad their stats too.
