Knicks: Allan Houston might return tonight. He won't take away Crawford's starting spot, but he'll eat away some of his minutes, as well as those of Tim Thomas, Ariza, and Hardaway.

I just hope he doesn't take any of Nazr's minutes.

Nazr has been one of my better pickups of the year.

LOL

Has Alan Houston ever gotten a rebound?

Houstons contract is killing the Knicks. They have the highest payroll in the NBA and the 3rd and 7th highest paid players in the game and they both suck. Thomas and Hardaway will probably be traded next year because they will be in the last year of their contracts. I wonder what over paid players they'll pick up to replace those 2 over paid players.

I haven't heard anything about the Toronto rumors in a few days. Anyone know anymore about them? I'm hoping we don't do the deal as it's not a significant upgrade in talent, while only worsening our cap situation.

Raptors: I have read something on the Raptors boards about a possible trade with NO. Including Magloire(Canadian) or possibly Baron Davis.
God i hope it involves both.

Raptors:

Guys up here in Canada we get an insane amount of coverage on the raptors. I'm not complaining but I hear a lot of Sam Mitchell.. Anyone else think he's a bit of a drama queen? When I see him giving his post game rambles he always seems to know the problem, but then he just doesn't do what he needs to do! Now, is it all his fault? No. However I do think that he like the cameras and seems to be running an awfully dramatic show!

Just thank God that you don't have Kevin O'neil as your coach anymore.

Mitchell is definitely an upgrade from O'neil.

Raptors: Mitchell is an upgrade from O'Neill I agree but I think he needed a few more years as an assistant coach before being named head coach. He just isn't ready to deal with adversity. I loved him as a player but he's gotta realize that not every player plays the game like him and you can't hate on everyone who doesn't play the game like you. I agree with Davis too, he loves putting on a show for the cameras. Definately doesn't give his players enough credit for some of the things they do, he always emphasizes the negatives.

The Raptors can't begin to solve their problems unless they get rid of Carter. He needs to go even if its just for a barrage of expiring contracts. It would be nice if we could unload Rose and Carter because that would free up a ton of salary cap room to make a run at some players who better fit the Raptors philosophy this offseason. They may as well pack it in this season because even if they make the playoffs they'll be an easy first round knockout for Detroit, Miami or Indiana. Babcock has gotta get something done before the trading deadline or else we'll be giving up on the next few seasons.

The New York Post believes the Knicks could get a Vince Carter deal done if they would just include Jamal Crawford.
If GM Isiah Thomas truly believes Carter, 27, can return to his All-Star form out of Toronto, then he should make the deal. If not, hopefully we'll stop hearing about it. We certainly understand that he'd like to keep Crawford on hand as Carter insurance, but his only alternative will be packaging Nazr Mohammed, and that would leave the Knicks with a huge hole in the middle. O'Brien: More rest could benefit Korver

Preparing for tonight's game at the Wachovia Center against the New York Knicks, O'Brien said he will do what it takes to help Korver get back into a groove, even if it means cutting back on his playing time. "Sure, I'll back off on his minutes," O'Brien said. "I'll look at bringing him off the bench. Whatever it takes to get him right, whatever it takes for us to win the next basketball game, we'll do it."

I recommend that those owning Korver keep him tonight, so they can determine how he will be used. It could be good for his TSN point production, or O'Brien may bury him at the end of the bench. It also looks like Willie Green has regained a spot in the rotation.

Despite bringing Vince Carter to New Jersey, there is still talk that Jason Kidd might be heading to Denver in exchange for Andre Miller and Nene.
This could be just another trade rumor, but it is interesting, as the Nets need big men now. A starting lineup of Andre Miller, Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson, Nene and Jason Collins doesn't look too bad. Dec. 19 - 12:03 pm et

May as well read the whole story:

So the Nets have Vince Carter to match with Kidd. Want to hear the punch line?

As of late yesterday afternoon, rumors persisted that the Nets were still considering a possible deal with Denver, which would send power forward Nene and point guard Andre Miller to the Nets for Kidd.

It would be remarkable if the Nets pursued this discussion, considering the Carter deal was made in large part to make Kidd a happy Net. But it wouldn't be such a bad move long-term for the Nets, either, as they would get out from under the weight of Kidd's contract -- which has four years and $75 million remaining after this season -- and get younger in the process.

"I'm a Net until told otherwise," Kidd said yesterday, when asked whether he'd like to stick around. "I've always asked to put a competitive team out there, and that's what they're trying to do. I can only do my job. If I concentrate on doing my job, then they'll do theirs and hopefully we'll be one big happy family."

Team president Rod Thorn gave a short, matter-of-fact response when asked if he expects to keep Kidd around long-term with the Carter move.

"We certainly anticipate that," he said. "We're very happy with what we've seen from Jason since his recovery from his surgery."

The Nets, in need of size, are expected to activate Jabari Smith from the IL today.
The team also continues to look at available big men, including Cliff Robinson, Kwame Brown, and Donyell Marshall. They're also in talks with Memphis about guard Dahntay Jones as an upgrade over the disappointing Rodney Buford. Dec. 21 - 7:53 am et

PR -- I have not seen a lot of C's games but from what I read and hear, Blount is not pleased with the new commitment to offense coming from a team that under Obie and Carroll emphasized defense. I think Mark was more appreciated last year and it shows in his play. This year, he looks like he is a cousin of TMac or Vinsanity. This article speaks to it a little.

For what it's worth, The Sports Guy thinks that Blount has Dampieritis, or, last year was a contract year so Blount put in the effort. Now that he's being paid, he doesn't need to play hard anymore.

Seems like Bill is right about Blount but it also seems like his spirit has taken a hit because of a lack of defense. Maybe he's an ar-teest.
Speaking of Boston's defense, let's see if we can get Peter May's readership into double digits.

Does anyone have any substantiated information regarding Dalembert's sudden jump in minutes? He was averaging about 15-20 off the bench, and all of a sudden he's played over 30 in the last two games. What gives?

FINALLY:

One possible change we could see in New York after the All-Star break is Mike Sweetney replacing Nazr Mohammed in the starting lineup.
The New York Post puts it like this: Nazr Mohammed is playing with a sore groin and not getting it done. Sweetney showed the monster he can be Wednesday on the offensive glass. Sweetney has the best post game on the team, and Kurt Thomas excelled as a center two seasons ago. The Thomas/Sweetney unit often finishes games, so why not start them? Feb. 18 - 8:12 am et

"Mitchell, speaking to reporters in Toronto after the 76ers-Raptors game, said he and Carter merely wrestled. But Carter's mother, Michelle, said her son slammed Mitchell onto a massage table in the Raptors' locker room after the coach challenged Carter".

"Michelle Carter said she found out about the altercation from the coach, not from her son, after Mitchell mentioned it in passing at the Raptors' Christmas party".

"So I asked Vince what happened. He told me he couldn't take Sam's challenges any more, so he picked him up and threw him on the massage table. That definitely happened. No question about it. And if anyone says it didn't happen, they're lying," she told Sportsnet of Canada.

So who's lying?

she doesn't even back up that story. she was interviewed since. the story is just a fabrication out of nothing.

regardless, she and vince need to shut up. the raptors are already screwed, because vince stopped playing for us and dropped his trade value to ridiculous lows. they gave him the trade he wanted and haven't said anything about him, considering how sketchy it is that he's back to being a superstar.

would i love that:

Knick fan Spike Lee is already suggesting that LeBron James will sign with New York when he is eligible for free agency following the 2005-06 season.
''There's no guarantee LeBron is going back to Cleveland,'' Lee said. Lee is involved with Nike and knows James' agent, Aaron Goodwin. He claims there's a clause in James' contract with Nike contract that would pay him more to play in New York, which might make it not so absurd for James to sign for the $5 million midlevel exception that the capped-out Knicks could offer. There's so many issues there it's not worth getting into. Suffice to say we expect the Cavs to do everything in their power to make LeBron a lifer in Cleveland. Apr. 2 - 5:39 am et

At least Sweetney should be a bargain next year.

Normally I'd be angry at Kurt Thomas being traded, but what a week this has been. No NBA lockout, Billy Corgan solo album, Billy Corgan concert, and the news that The Smashing Pumpkins (only the greatest band in the history of the world) are getting back together.
