I sure hope this doesnt get cancelled.
I would think if we are doing it we should be getting sign-ups going.

yea I would hope we would have enough interest.

It was a fun way to bring discourse to the forums

OK with me.

But I will point out that some felt that GMD competition actually stifled discourse at the forum, since some GMD teams tended to take their tactical conversations underground (via instant messenger or email), so as not to tip their thoughts to the other GMD teams. Perhaps GMD teams should be discouraged from conducting relevant conversations "offline".

It didn't do any good to take it offline anyway. Soulman's team was by far the most active posting on the boards and also destroyed the competition.

I think it was taken off the boards more in the spirit of the games overall competition than the GMD competition.

The managers who don;t want to share the moves wouldn't have done it regardless of the GMD or not I would think. I guess some managers on the teams who may have been willing to talk openly were encouraged to also take their comments off the boards

If Soulman's team took their discussions offline and they finished last then maybe GMD served it's purpose to keeping "irrelevent" discourse off the boards.
J/K...I know that was a low blow.... but I couldnt resist.

Overall I think it encouraged participation/discussion especially after the ASB when it tapers down to almost nothing on the TSN boards.

Interesting to see this thread going. Normally I have all kinds of trouble getting signups and/or coaches.

Anyway, I'm gonna contact some of the usual managing suspects and see what kind of interest they have.

Farn we are counting on you.
And yes some of us do appreciate all your hard work in keeping this going each year.

Will there be a seperate sign up thread or is this it?
If so...I'm in.

I would be interested in doing it for the first time, if there's room for newbies.

Ok, a few factors play in to this decision.

1. We need 4 managers. I'm not going to be able to do it this year. I just don't have time. I'm having enough trouble keeping my TSN team off life support. Soulman has volunteered so we have 1.

2. I'm not sure we have enough people to have 4 squads and still a few free agents. Signups for TSN are down this year.

3. There are a number of us that have developed a good friendship and talk TSN via email everyday. None of us are willing to give up that chatter between us because obviously we'd never all end up on 1 team. So its a tough spot there for us.

I'm definately open to suggestions. GMD has always been fun.

Here's my suggestions:

1&2) Let's open the signups thread and go from there. I am confident there will be three other volunteer managers and enough signups to have four teams plus FAs. The earlier we open signups, the better.

3) I don't see why people should need to give up TSN chatter just because they're on separate teams. E.g. turnabouts and me were on different teams for most part of last season and we still did a lot of strategy discussion via phone. Also, as Coach Bird correctly points out in #4, the team that revealed their plans most openly was the most successful one, so I would conclude open discussion usually enhances performance.

So I don't think at all that GMD stifles discussion. I feel it fosters it. Add to this that it simply a lot of fun, and it's clear to me that we absolutely should try to get it going each and every year.

Soulman, since you're the one guy who has agreed to be a manager, why don't you open up the sign-up thread?

I'm definitely up for playing, though at this point I don't know how helpful I can be because my team is firmly entrenched in suck. I thought it added a lot of really good discussion last year.

Well, because Farn usually is organizing GMD and I'm not taking that away from him without asking.

Farn - what's your take on this? Are you going to organize it or shall I take this on? Please let me know until Monday which is when I would open signups unless there is a signal that you'd be doing it.

What is it?

its a way of sorting TSN managers who frequent the boards into teams.

There are like 4 teams with 8 managers each. They just add the TSNP together so its not any extra work from your TSN team.

Nex week there will be draft for the people who sign up placing them on teams with the rest going into the free agent pool. Free agents are picked up every 2 weeks I believe.

Just a way to add more competition to TSN

Hope that is clear (and I would recommend signing up)

#20 Haha, another good reason for GMD - it gets my complaining into one easily avoidable thread :)
