I was thinking of the potential Microsoft / Yahoo merger this morning. And thinking of all the Yahoo properties that are out there, when it hit me, Yahoo Fantasy Sports. I'm not much of an MSN fan. But I hopped over to see what MSN had in terms of fantasy sports. Seems they link into foxsports fantasy games, which (not surprise here) does have fantasy basketball.
I highly doubt that Yahoo's Fantasy games will go way. But if they did, where would you turn to next?

The G20 league is played at NBA.com. I don't prefer it, but it is certainly playable.

Wouldnt MSN be acquiring Yahoo for the things they do well? Perhaps MSN has not offered hoops because Yahoo has dominated the market and they felt they could not compete. Is there a better way to enter a market you are not in than acquiring the company who dominates that market? I would be shocked to see MSN not offer hoops.

Yahoo also has a partnership with AT&T. With ATTs forray into TV using fiberoptics via the internet and Yahoo providing a LOT of he basis for it, this could have far-reaching implications from the Instant Messenger via TV screens, Caller ID on the TV screens and making calls from your TV. All DVR functions. Games and fantasy sports from your TV.
I'd imagine that MSN would keep the Yahoo! brand--at least for the short-term when it came to things they didn't have--like fantasy sports but would do away with YIM for their MSN Messenger.
NBA.com's game is much better this year. Still needs to fix some small things. I really enjoy their free real time stats that also use ytd realtime standings. I also like that you can make a transaction and use that player immediately instead of having to wait a day. It also has a lot of things that Yahoo doesn't offer. It's a work in progress though.
