Donnie Walsh is heading to the Big Apple after 24 years with the Indiana Pacers .

Walsh will join the New York Knicks next season with a three-year deal worth $15 million to overssee Basketball Operations.

This move further puts in doubt current president of basketball operations and head coach Isiah Thomas but he had nothing but good words to say about the man who gave him his first head coaching position.

"He's had a great career, he's one of the best who's ever done it," Thomas said before the Knicks lost to New Jersey to fall to 19-51 on the season. "I wish him great success and he's someone that I respect tremendously. He gave me my first coaching job and I truly do like him as a person and he's done a lot for the game."

Wow that went fast...

I can't believe they would get rid of Isiah, he's been nothing but good for the Knicks franchise. It'll be a sad day when he leaves...

who me? sarcastic? :)

per rotoworld....

The Knicks official website has a truly hilarious biography about Isiah. There's too much great stuff and I can only scratch the surface, but they speak glowingly about his "singular style" and his "singular philosophy" (you can't deny it, can you?). Upon resuming coaching duties, Isiah was quoted as saying, ""The first thing I'll do is restore the discipline and from that discipline we should be able to regain the trust of our players. And from the discipline and trust, we'll try to restore their confidence and build their confidence back to the level where it should be for a professional athlete." I'm not sure if the discipline/trust speech was before or after the sexual harassment lawsuit. Discipline, trust, and confidence (Marbury refusing to play, Randolph throwing water on a teammate, Curry questioning his role, Q-Rich exploding, etc.) Hmm…I wonder when Isiah is going to get started on that.

Walsh has taken over the Knicks. He hired Thomas at Indiana. Then fired him when Bird came in. Bird hates him so he may have been appeasing Bird. Still, Walsh normally knows his stuff. Be great if he came in and dumped Thomas forthwith or at least as soon as the season ended. I am thinking Dolan may have found someone who actually would agree to come to teh Knocks and keep Thomas though. Hope that's not the case. I bet the other NBA teams hope Thomas stays!
