i uninstalled my wmp by accident and now everytime i tried to run the wmp installation setup file windows xp would force me to do an "windows authenticity test" and wouldn't allow me to reinstall wmp after my pc failed the test. is there any way to get around this? really appreciate it.

Try downloading an older version of WMP. There are a lot of sites that keep older versions of programs.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it but it won't work. If I run my current wmp it says need windows authentication test, but if i run a older wmp installation it says "you already have a newer wmp version, setup will abort." are there any options besides reinstalling win?

See if you can download the windows installer cleanup utility from microsoft and uninstall whatever might be left of WMP and then install the older version.
