An NBA source told Marc Spears of the Boston Globe on Saturday afternoon that Mike D'Antoni has accepted the Knicks offer to coach the team and the New York Post has confirmed it.
D'Antoni was given permission by the Suns to interview for openings with the Knicks and the Chicago Bulls, but was not allowed to talk to the Toronto Raptors, where Bryan Colangelo is the current GM after leaving the Suns. Stephen A. Smith of ESPN reported earlier on Saturday that D'Antoni's deal with the Knicks was for four years and $24 million, which is what the Post is reporting as well. D'Antoni will try to hold down the fort in New York until several big-named free agents become available down the line. Source: New York Post / Rotoworld
As a Knickfan i cant be anything else than happy, as a TSN player too :) |

Oh good. Since the Knicks signed him now I know he's gonna suck. Perhaps the Bulls can go get somebody good now.

As someone who lives in the NYC area, I am just happy to have some significant upgrades of Donnie Walsh and D'Antoni over Isiah. If there games are always gonna be on my TV - at least they will be enjoyable to watch vs the previous trainwreck.
Glad Dolan finally smartened up.

Funny, I didn't even think about this until reading an article somewhere this AM, that this is the first of the "Get LBJ into NYC in 2010" tour.

GO - are you freakin serious?!?!?! It provides for great entertainment. Whether Isiah's off-the court stories, Stephone Marbury Drama, or on the court issues such as a fastbreak brick on a dunk by Fred Jones or this:
"The New York Knicks' 2007 season was summed up Sunday afternoon in the first quarter of their game against the Lakers. Five seconds left on the game clock, and there's Nate Robinson casually dribbling through his legs, walking the ball up the court. With a second left, Robinson finally noticed the clock, and passed to Quentin Richardson. Alas, Richardson could not get a shot off before time expired."
The Knicks were like a soap opera, all season long. Too bad that wont happen anymore!

John Paxson wanted to make Mike D'Antoni an offer to coach the Bulls but never got a chance, as D'Antoni quickly signed on with the New York Knicks on Saturday after two preliminary meetings with Chicago. "We were never given an opportunity to make an offer of any kind, which is the most disappointing thing," Paxson said. ''I thought it would have been fair to listen to what we had to say, but at the end of the day, we simply weren't given the opportunity to do so.'' -Sun Times
As a lifelong Bulls fan this nonsense is just pathetic. You mean to tell me the Bulls had 2 meetings with D'Antoni and never made an offer? Donnie Walsh must have been foaming at the mouth once he got a chance. I feel sorry for Bulls fans and John Paxson especially because he never had a chance. It's fairly obvious that Jerry Reinsdorf would not spend the $$ for the best coach available right now. He made himself unavailable to meet with D'Antoni while in Chicago, knowing all along there was an excellent chance Donnie Walsh would most certainly close that deal.

As a Bulls fan (and a Suns fan after moving to Phx) I was disappointed with how this all went down. I will lower my disappointment if they can land Thibideau from Boston but otherwise there probably isn't an answer that will make me happy.
