It's time to begin organizing the qualifying leagues for the RotoGuru Invitational Hoops Challenge.
Last year, we had 2 AAA leagues and 1 AA league. We will continue with a pair of AAA leagues this year, but we can have as many AA leagues as needed to fill the demand. Each league should have 12 managers, and each league will need a commissioner. Rules will be the same as the RIHC, as spelled out in the RIHC preseason discussion thread.
AAA league slots are open only for those who have qualified by playing in the RIHC or a qualifying league last season. There are 24 slots to fill. I believe that the following guidelines form the best qualifications for filling those slots:
1. RIHC managers not invited to the RIHC this year (7)
2. AAA managers ranked 4th-8th (10)
3. AA managers ranked 2nd-8th (7)
This list includes 24 managers, but there will probably be a few who decline to participate this year. If so, the remaining slots should be filled by those finishing 9th in the AAA leagues (2), followed by those finishing 9th (1) in the AA league. If more AAA slots are open, they may be offered to any returning QL manager, regardless of league or rank, first come, first served.
The following 24 managers are therefore automatically qualified for a AAA league:

You may use this thread to express your interest in joining a AAA league. If you are interested, you must provide an email address or your spot may be forfeited if we cannot track you down when league activities (registration, drafting etc. commence)
I need two volunteers to serve as AAA commissioners. Leagues should be hosted at Yahoo, and each draft should be hosted using kafenatid.net “On the Clock” software. RotoGuru.com will pay the registration cost for your draft. By using a common draft site, we will have the ability to compare and analyze the various drafts when they are completed.
Once we have two AAA Commissioners, they may start separate threads to recruit each league (using the priority guidelines listed above). Please wait until both commissioners have been named.
If you are interested in a AA league and you are not qualifed for a AAA slot, you may also list your interest in this thread. Again, provide your email address. We also need a volunteer to Commish the first AA league. Once the first AA league is filled, we will begin to fill another league. There is no qualification standard for joining a AA league. However, participants in the RIHC or a AAA league should refrain from also joining a AA league unless there are open slots that must be filled to complete a league.

We now have enough responses for a full AA league, but someone needs to step up and serve as commish.
The essential duties of the commissioner as:
1. Organize the sign-up process. Register the league at kafenatid.net for the draft, and at Yahoo. Communicate the registration info to all league members.
2. Establish the draft order. Most of the invitational leagues use a certain process to select draft order, but when time is of the essence (as it may be for this league), simply assigning a random order is sometimes done.
3. Ensure that the draft keeps moving. Usually, this means making selections from various queues, but mostly, it means saber-rattling if/when the progress is slower than needed.
4. Enter draft results info into Yahoo. The Yahoo interface for this is pretty simple, and shouldn't be an ordeal.
5. Mediate disputes during the season. For most of the Invitational leagues, this is not a big issue.
So, most of the commissioner attention is needed during October. Once the season starts, most leagues run on autpilot.

If anyone not yet "signed up" for this league is willing to step up and commish, that person gets in, and someone else will be left out.

I suggest registering the league at both Yahoo and kafenatid.net (I'm paying for the draft, so that's taken care of already.) Send out emails to the individuals listed above, and start an organizing thread at the leagues and standings forum.

Looks like I am too late to get back into a league. My work schedule is much more stable this year, so I hate I had to give up my RIHC spot last year. If any openings come up let me know, and I can commish one if necessary.

Are there any others interested in a 2nd AA league? I can get things going if there is enough interest.
I just can't believe Mike D will not be back for the Elimination Chamber this season which he started years back. Where will you get your trading fix? I realize that after your initial 5 year dominance I have managed to sneak out the last two, but c'mon!!

i'd play with you in this one too.
i'd be very interested in a live draft.
best way to handle that would be to just name a date and time and say 'if you can make it come play'
just not saterday the 25th, i'm already in a draft that day.
anyway. you still have a week before things look bad for a slow draft and i'm sure some that are already playing could fill a few final spots.

I'll mention this in today's blurb. We might be able to round up another league-full.
If you have a reasonably diligent league, you should be able to complete a slow draft in 7-8 days.

Ok, i have 4 of us in so far, 8 to go...the plan would be to do a slow draft through Kafenatid like the other leagues. I have another league that will start the same type draft next week, so I think we will be good to finish on time.

Skinneej, if you elect to opt for a fast draft due to time concerns with a slow draft....or even a slow draft followed by a fast draft if/when you don't get done in time.....I might be able to provide another 'fill' team to help bump the numbers up to make the league go. I would enjoy a live draft this year. Obviously my AA team would be irrelevant for advancement through RIHC eligibility. Another option of course would be to complete the draft AFTER the season has started with all players drafted getting accumulated stats from day one of the NBA season. I'm pretty sure Yahoo has that option/capability if that was something that seemed like a better option than no league or a fast draft. I would not be interested in fielding a team for that option, personally though. Just a way to buy some more time to round up 12.

Invites have been sent out to the ones who have listed their e-mails above (xpdurmind I don't have one for you). Please join the yahoo league quickly so we can see where we are at. Still need 2-3 I believe.
My plan is to still do a slow live draft through kafenatid and we will cut down the draft times as needed. The first few rounds will probably go a little slow, but the later rounds will have a reduced clock in order to have the league set and ready to go on time.
I will start a league thread in the standings forum as soon as we have 12 teams.

i wanted a ruling on etiquitte.
I am in the AA league. We are behind in the draft as we are jsut in the second round. Someone is about to time out (still 30 mins left) and was wondering what i should do if he does. This is our first round with a clock so wasnt sure it ettiquite says to cut some slack. Also the freeze is only 20 mins after he times out and I will be up soon after the clock starts again tomorrow morning to pick if then I decide to wait it out.
My current plan is to wait until i go to bed to pick which is about an hour after he will time out. If people tell me I should wait until the morning I will do that or if I jsut should pick right away. let me know
hopwfully this is all for nothing and a pick is made. jsut wanted to ask before the situation arose.

xp, yes this will be a on the clock draft but if you can leave queues that would work. If not, we still need 1 more manager.
11 are registered in yahoo, and 10 in kafenatid (astade still needs to register).
I'm starting a new thread so please go here to start the draft order.
