I wonder what the impact will be for Chandler.

I am a Knickfan, and from what I hear Chandler could start at SF instead of Q-Brick....
Either way good move for the Knicks imo.

And here goes down even more Lee's value. That's terrible news for my RIHC team.

I'll believe it when I read it somewhere else. It wouldn't be the first time Peter Vescey "reported" a trade or something like it that turned out to be imaginary.

If it does go through, the value of a lot of the Knicks changes.

There are conflicting reports concerning which players the Knicks will include in the trade. Peter Vescey presumes that the deal is for Malik Rose. Ric Bucher of ESPN is reporting that the Knicks will send Jamal Crawford to the Warriors.

I think the Knicks would be crazy to send Crawford to GS for Harrington.

The Knicks, Warriors and Clippers are talking about a three-way deal that would involve Jamal Crawford, Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins being sent in a cap-space clearing move that would bring in Tim Thomas, Cuttino Mobley and Al Harrington.

The contracts on all three incoming players expires in 2010.

Stay tuned . . .

Noooooo more Tim Thomas!!

I guess Harrington is a Donnie Walsh favorite since he drafted him with the Pacers. Big Al fits into the Knicks scheme fairly well. I'm sad to see Jamal go but if this gets us LeBron it will be worth it.

Boy, if Cleveland signs LeBron to an extension before 2010, it's going to screw up A LOT of teams' plans.

Warriors, Knicks agree in principle on Crawford-Harrington deal. Source: ESPN

ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher reported early Friday that the teams were nearing completion on a deal featuring Harrington and Crawford. ESPN.com has since confirmed that those two players, barring a late adjustment, would be the only two involved in the trade.

Knicks trade Jamal Crawford for Al Harrington, working on deal to send Zach Randolph to Dallas

BY FRANK ISOLA
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

Friday, November 21st 2008, 1:14 PM

The Knicks acquired Warriors forward Al Harrington Friday for Jamal Crawford in a deal that creates salary cap space for the summer of 2010. The Knicks are also working on a trade that would land Zach Randolph in Dallas.

Harrington, who was originally drafted by then-Pacers president Donnie Walsh, is not expected to be available for Saturday's home game against Washington. He will likely play, coincidentally enough, in Tuesday's game against LeBron James and Cleveland.

The Knicks are in the process of clearing out long term contracts in order to sign James in two years. Harrington's contract runs through next summer.

His presence on the roster will have a domino effect on the rest of the team. The next Knicks player to be moved should be Randolph, whose play this month has increased his trade value. Jerry Stackhouse has expressed a desire to be traded but his contract, which expires this summer, is half the value of Randolph's deal.

Unless another player is thrown into the trade, there is a possibility that the Knicks will recruit a third team to make the Randolph deal work. The Clippers are still hoping to acquire Randolph for Tim Thomas and Cuttino Mobley.

Crawford was the Knicks leading scorer and is well liked by his teammates and coaches. But his contract runs through 2011 and Walsh has made it clear that his goal is to get the Knicks under the salary cap by 2010.

"It's always going to be a possibility that one day the face of this franchise is going to change," Mike D'Antoni said early Friday. "(Walsh's) plan is pretty clear... In a couple of years we're going to be under the cap. Everything he will do will lead us to being under the cap in two years. And I'll deal with making sure the team is competitive and we'll try to make the playoffs this year."

The "Clear space for LeBron" is nice and all, but if you gut the team of players (and crappy contracts), what is in place to entice LBJ into signing with you? A gutted team in NY won't help you win Chips. We've already seen this with Kobe, and I think there was a lot more talent on those Lakers squads than is given credit.

The Knicks weren't exactly a team with much talent to gut. I think Crawford for Harrington is a push talent-wise.

But Harrington is being brought in for his contract. As in to "clear space for LeBron".

Name a championship team in the last 20 years that had only 1 stud. Detroit (without any) and thats about it. LeBron with crap in NY is no closer to a chip than in CLE.

I'd actually see the NJ side as more realistic. Better young talent to develope (Harris, Lopez, Yi, CDR, R.Anderson) and a stud (offensively) in Carter (whether he meshes as a second option is up for grabs).

Lebron hasn't given any indications that he wants to play anywhere else, and he's got better supporting cast at Cleveland than anywhere else that can afford him. The Cavs will do what they have to do to re-sign him.

I wonder what the effect will be on Curry, when it all settles out.

I know you don't want to hear this, RecycledSpinalFluid , but LeBron will sign with Portland. They will have the space and the studs. The fact that Portland is a tiny town doesn't matter, LeBron plays on the world stage and the world recognizes Larry O'Brien trophies, which would come in spades to him in a Blazer uni. Great coach in Nate McMillan, whom LeBron got to work with in Beijing.

Plus, all of that rich African-American history from Portland, come on! Who can forget the famous March on Portland across the Steel Bridge? The famous Portland Bus Strike, the Starbucks lunch counter sit in. It's a living history lesson right there along the Willamette, just ask one of the four black people who live there!

Lol - You're all going to be disappointed because Lebron is coming to the Bulls. We have Derrick Rose, the magnificent mile, Oak street beach, Sears tower and the home office of President-Elect Barack Obama. Plenty of good pizza , soul food, nightclubs and the Cubbies. By 2010, we'll have 2 more high first round picks, DelNegro will have already been fired and one of the other 3 head er I mean assistant coaches will have taken over by then. Lebron's kind of town Chicago is...

as a Warrior fan...I am happy they got rid of Harrington, this will make the Warriors decent and keep the Knicks' hopes up for King James. Also, this is gonna hurt Morrows value, next week after their 5 and 7 gotta take the money and run.

I think it's been made clear that if you've got one superstar commanding a huge salary, and you're trying to both stay under or near the luxury tax threshold AND compete for a championship, it's hard. Unless your superstar is willing to take less money to upgrade your supporting cast, it's almost impossible.

The difference with the Knicks is that they've always been willing to exceed the luxury tax threshold (by a lot sometimes) because of their market. So if you can "convince" LeBron to come to the biggest stage in the world (not hard), and not ask him to take a paycut (who would want to?), play a style and for a coach that you know he likes, and still be willing and able to bring in 2 or 3 viable second fiddles, you've got a great shot at a championship.

That said, I still think LeBron going to Portland would be awesome. That's a true dynasty for a good 8-10 years.

The salary cap is intended to keep things mixed up, so that one team doesn't just buy up all the best players.

Some teams can do it. The Spurs, for example, have done OK with Duncan making almost twice as much as the next two (Parker & Gino) put together. But it is hard to do. You need a guy to build around who doesn't command too much money too quickly so that you can get good support.

And then pray for luck.

I'm a season ticket holding knicks fan...

I'm happy about this move. It's a push talent wise as suggested above, but it's all about freeing cap space for Bron Bron when he's up for free agency. I'd be will to bet any amount of money at even odds that he's going to be a Knick.

The Knicks look like they'll have over $40M in cap space the summer of 2010. That's enough to entice both LeBron and Wade to come to the Big Apple.

Would be great to see LeBron here in NY, but even if he goes elsewhere, the Knicks will have enough cap room to land two other huge names (e.g. Wade and Amare).
