After consultation with the managers, we have developed the following rules. |

|
GMD DRAFT
We have 34 players currently in the GMD player pool. That means 2 teams of 8 and 2 teams of 9.
As for the draft, as usual it will be a "snake" draft with the managers picking at 1&8, 2&7, 3&6, 4&5, and so on, until all the people who signed-up are drafted. Every owner in the players pool will part of a GMD team; there will be no waiver list.
The order of the draft is as follows:
1) Weykool 2) deejay 3) Blooki 4) dpr
The draft will be held on Dec 1 and 2 and the GMD season will begin on Wednesday, Dec 3.
Following the draft, anyone else who wishes to play GMD this season can join by placing his or her team name and id number in the GMD sign-up thread. At the end of the first trading period they will be assigned to one of the GMD teams.
TRADING PERIODS
There will be nine TPs:
TP #1 12/3-16 TP #2 12/17-30 TP #3 12/31-1/13 TP #4 1/14-27 TP #5 1/28-2/12 TP #6 2/17-3/3 TP #7 3/4-17 TP #8 3/18-3/31 TP #9 4/1-15
For each TP, the scores of only the top seven players on each team (including the manager) will count towards that team’s score for the TP.
WAIVER CLAIMS DRAFT
At the conclusion of each TP, we will hold a Waiver Claims Draft. Each manager will protect seven members of his team (including himself). The rest will be unprotected and placed on the unprotected list. A manager will have the choice to put any newly signed-up players added to his team at the end of the TP on either his protected or unprotected list.
Should a manager not list his unprotected players by 1pm EST on Weds, the player(s) with the worst year-to-date scoring on his team will be put on the unprotected list.
The team with the worst season record to date will draft first and so on. There will be two rounds of the Waiver Claim Draft. Both rounds will be worst to best. Once a player is claimed, he will automatically become protected.
Please use this thread to discuss any GMD matters except sign-up which should be done in the GMD sign-up thread.
Guru, starting tomorrow would you please put the daily pre-draft stats in this thread. And thanks again for keeping the stats.

If the number of players remains unbalanced, perhaps the teams at the bottom of the standings should have the continuing rights to the extra players.
For example, if there are still 34 players after the first TP, then for the next TP the two teams ranked 3rd and 4th will have 9 players, and the top two teams will have only 8.

That sounds like a good idea.
I assume that the top 7 teams will be chosen from their year-long performance and not from their performance since the beginning of the GMD competition, or the previous TP?
Also, I would interpret the rule "For each TP, the scores of only the top seven players on each team (including the manager) will count towards that team’s score for the TP" to mean that even in the case that one of the GMD managers isn't in the top 7 managers on that team, s/he will be included in the scores at the cost of a higher ranked manager?

I assume that the top 7 scoring teams each period will be based on points for that TP only.
If teams must be placed on the unprotected list automatically, those should probably be based on total points since the start of GMD. Points prior to the start of GMD aren't usually even reported in the standings thread.

last rule I think we need something about teams that "quit playing." Maybe it should be teams starting a trade period with more than 10? trades should be ineligible to score during that trading period? Still carry them on a GMD team in the event the resart playing.

We have one team with 11 trades banked as we speak... as well as several others with 6 in pocket who could conceivably start with 10...

#5 Teams that quit playing will be be removed from the pool.

The following was agreed to in discussion with the four managers:
Based on the number of total players in the GMD pool, some teams will have one more player than the other teams. For the sake of discussion, let's call a team with one less player "a team with the minimum allowed players" (currently 8), and a team with one more will be called "a team with the maximum allowed players" (currently 9).
This system is not based on trades. It is based on waiver claims. There will be two rounds in the waiver claim draft, where each team has the right to claim any unprotected player from any of the other teams.
At the end of the two rounds, if any manager has less than minimum allowed players, he must claim a player from a team with more with than the maximum allowed players. If there are no teams with more than the maximum allowed players, than the manager of the team with less than the minimum must claim a player from any one of the teams with the maximum allowed players. If all teams are meant to have the same number of players (when the player pool is a multiple of 4), a manager with less than that number must claim a player from a team with more than that number.
Under the current circumstances of 34 teams in the player pool, this means that a player with 7 players must claim a player from a team with 10 players. If there is no team with 10 players (i.e. just one team with 7 players and three teams with 9 players) than the team with 7 players must claim a player from one of the three other teams.
This system insures that the teams remain balanced.

#4, The managers and I agreed that in the rare event that a manager forgets to post his "unprotected list", then the top 7 scorers year-to-date will be protected and the balance placed on an unprotected list.

When I was a little boy I asked dumb questions. When my son was a little boy he asked dumb questions. This is my second go-around. Don't scold me. Are we stuck with the teams we chose? Then what if my team's plane crashes and I'm wiped out? Thanks.
Go to your roon CBG.

#11, In the past you were stuck with the team you chose, but wanting to be known as the "Benevolent Commish" :-), I will allow any player to change his team up until 11pm EST today, Saturday November 29.
We cannot do it after tonight as the teams that the managers draft from will initially be based on tomorrow morning's stats. And once we begin the draft, it would not be fair to the managers to have players change their teams.
Put your team change in this thread, but if it's a problem for Guru to change the stats, it may not happen. The final decision is his and cannot be appealed.

Since it's already Monday in Europe, I opened the GMD Draft thread in the Basketball League and Standings Forum. Good luck to all those playing this year.
Since Weycool and deejay have the first two picks and both live in Europe, there may not be any picks for quite a while.

Does the manager have to protect himself each period? If not, what happens if a manager does not protect himself and he is selected by another team?

From the draft thread:
At the conclusion of each TP, we will hold a Waiver Claims Draft. Each manager will protect seven members of his team (including himself). The rest will be unprotected and placed on the unprotected list. Managers will have the opportunity to claim players from other teams' unprotected lists.

I saw that, but thought it was worded ambiguously - hence the question.
It would be clearer if it said "each manager will protect six members of his team plus himself".
