The Knicks may get a break. Newly minted All-Star Danny Granger said last night he's "50-50" for tonight's game because of a bruised knee. Granger said he felt pain during the victory over the Heat and may not want to test a back-to-back.

more on Granger

Granger said there's a "50-50 chance" that he'll play in tonight's game against the New York Knicks.

He's dealing with a right knee problem.

"With a bruise it gets worse every time I play on it," Granger said. "I may be able to play on it, I may not."

Granger continued to ice his knee during timeouts so that he could numb it and play on it. He said he doesn't think his knee situation will be long term.

"It's not my knee, it's below my knee," he said. "It's a bone bruise. It's not my actual moving joint. I'm not worried about it, it just needs time to rest."

There's not a lot of time for Granger to rest it because the Pacers still have seven more games, including two sets of back-to-backs, before the All-Star break and then he has the All-Star Game.

Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said he wants to decrease Granger's minutes to between 34-36 minutes a game. Granger is currently averaging almost 37 minutes a game.

Granger had 19 points in 34 minutes against the Heat. He only played four minutes in the third quarter.

"It will help me with this," Granger said about the decreased playing time. "The more pounding on it, the more sore it gets. The more time I can have off it, the better."

From Rotoworld:

Tracy McGrady (sprained ankle) has been ruled out for Saturday's game. He is questionable for the Rockets next game on Tuesday.

Samuel Dalembert (sprained ankle) will be a game-time decision for the 76ers on Saturday.

Elton Brand's status for Saturday's game is unknown, as the 76ers medical staff hasn't determined whether he needs to be limited in back-to-back games.

Marcus Camby, who returned to the lineup on Wednesday against the Bulls, missed Friday's shootaround because of a migraine.

Kings center Brad Miller will likely miss at least two games with an abdominal strain, it was announced on Saturday.
That rules him out for back-to-back games on Sunday and Monday, but at least the Kings don't play again until Friday. With just three games on the schedule, owners in weekly leagues have little choice but to bench him. Spencer Hawes will get the start, a perfect opportunity to recapture his rhythm and, hopefully, more minutes. Jan. 31 - 6:05 pm et

The Pacers continue to say Danny Granger's knee situation isn't a major concern, but you have to wonder considering he was limping early in the game and didn't have any lift on his shot.

It also doesn't help that he has to ice his knee during timeouts. I ran into Granger after Saturday's loss to the Knicks and he said he's taking some different medication for his knee.

Coach Jim O'Brien said Granger probably won't practice Monday and they'll see if he can play in Tuesday's game against Minnesota.

O'Brien shot down the notion of possibly suggesting to Granger not to play in the All-Star Game on Feb. 15. The Pacers have six more games before the break and they need Granger on the court to increase their chances of getting a playoff spot.

"Hell no," O'Brien said about Granger skipping the game. "I don't think the All-Star Game is a drag out and they don't practice hard. He's on a new medicine and we'll see how that takes. He's a quick healer. If we have to sit him out a game or two, we'll do that.

Deseret News: The Utah Jazz will play the Charlotte Bobcats tonight without point guard Deron Williams. According to a team spokesman, Williams has a "moderate right quad contusion" — in other words, a bruised thigh. But, the spokesman added, his knee is said to be "stable."

Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said Ronnie Price, the team's usual No. 3 point guard, will start in Williams' place.

New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul left Monday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers late in the third quarter after suffering a strained right groin.

Paul made a pass in the lane before going down in obvious pain. He walked off under his own power.

Paul is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday. He appeared to aggravate the strain when he slipped entering the lane on a drive against Bayless with 1:30 left in the quarter. He delivered a pass but went down in obvious pain before limping to the locker room.

Based on MRI exam performed Monday morning, New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul has a mild groin strain and is listed as day to day, spokesman Dennis Rogers said.

"It's not as bad as it could be," Scott said. "Obviously, we're very excited that it's day to day. We're going to wait and hope he is a fast healer. I don't think it's anyway possible for him to play tomorrow. If he plays tomorrow, it does more damage than anything. It's day to day until that thing clears up."

Paul suffered the injury late in the third quarter during Monday's 97-89 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers at the New Orleans Arena. Hornets Coach Byron Scott said Paul is expected to miss Wednesday's game against the Chicago Bulls and there is a possibility he could miss up [to] four games.

Jeff Foster appeared to injure his ankle in the fourth quarter of Tuesday's game versus Minnesota.
The veteran center stayed in the game to shoot free throws after the injury, but departed shortly thereafter. The injury didn't appear to be serious, but it's possible Foster could miss some time. He had nine points, five rebounds, five assists and a block when he departed.

Tue, Feb 3 G Jameer Nelson may miss the rest of the season due to a torn labrum in his right shoulder, suffered in Monday night's loss to the Mavericks. Nelson will eventually need surgery to repair the damage, but he could try to put it off until the summer. If he attempts to do so, he might be back within a month, but he would be at risk for shoulder dislocations. If he had the surgery immediately, his season would likely be over. "It's a big blow for us," teammate Dwight Howard said. "I'm trying not to even think about it because he had been playing so well for us. It's a sad day for us all."

2/4 - Chris Paul (strained groin) was hoping to play on Wednesday, but coach Byron Scott already ruled him out.
"We just want to take a couple of days and see if he's a fast healer," Scott said. The Hornets are going to be very cautious with their team MVP, but it sounds like there's a chance we will see Paul on Friday. Antonio Daniels will start at point guard on Wednesday, backed up by Devin Brown.

" No chance " for Paul to play tonight, maybe Sunday, maybe not til after the break.

Hornets point guard Chris Paul, who has a mild groin sprain, participated in some drills at quarter speed during Thursday's practice, but Scott said there is no chance he will play Friday night against Toronto.

"The best case scenario is Sunday and the worst case would be to see him after the All-Star break,'' Scott said.

Is the Ridnour injury confirmed? I see this on Rotoworld:

If the rumors that Luke Ridnour broke his thumb are true then Sessions would become Milwaukee's starting point guard.
Spin: Sessions will see more consistent playing time if Ridnour is out for four weeks as is rumored. He might not be a bad guy to pick up if you are in need of help at the guard position.

A few brief ones from Rotoworld:

Kenyon Martin and Chauncey Billups (sprained ankle) arelisted as questionable for Friday night's matchup with the Wizards.

Joe Johnson will not play for the Hawks again on Friday due to the flu.

Danny Granger said after Thursday's game he was unsure if he would be able to play on Friday at Orlando due to the on going issues with his knee.
"It’s hard to tell when I’m limping on it so much, and tonight it’s just so sore and we’ll have to see tomorrow because last time we had a double header I wasn’t able to go," he said. Back-to-backs have become an issue for Granger and we'll try to find out if he's in or out prior to game time. He also admitted he may be forced to take some games off because of the knee and this could become a real issue once the Pacers are eliminated from the playoffs.

Sounds like Chris Paul may be out until after the break, from Monday's New Orleans paper.

Paul missed his third consecutive game Sunday against the Timberwolves.

He could miss tonight's game at Memphis and Wednesday night's game against the Boston Celtics at the New Orleans Arena.

Paul said he will play in Sunday's All-Star Game in Phoenix.

"He's pretty cautious about what he has to do on All-Star weekend," Scott said. "I think he understands. One thing about CP, it's more important what he needs to do for this team than All-Star weekend."

I guess there will be more today or tomorrow, but it doesn't sound real good for Jefferson

His right knee buckled when he landed on one leg after he tried to block a shot with 27.2 seconds remaining in a tied game. He later said he heard a "pop" in the knee. He also said it didn't feel as bad after the game as when he suffered a mildly sprained medial collateral ligament before training camp started last fall.

Amare Stoudemire could miss 8 weeks due to eye surgery.
The beleaguered Suns announced Friday that Amare Stoudemire was forced to undergo eye surgery to repair a partially detached retina suffered in a Wednesday night rout of the Los Angeles Clippers. It is Stoudemire's second eye injury since October and the All-Star forward could miss the rest of the regular season.

Stoudemire's return to physical activity has been estimated at eight weeks by the Suns. He underwent surgery Friday morning, although the club said in a statement that "recovery varies on a case-by-case basis."

Carlos Boozer is expected to play on Monday, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

Nene banged knees with Richard Jefferson in the final minute of Sunday's game against the Bucks and was unable to finish.
While banged knees usually don't end up resulting in serious injuries, he was in intense pain and hopped off the court without ever putting pressure on his right knee - which is the one that has been surgically repaired. Consider him day-to-day for now, but stay tuned for updates tonight and on Monday. Owners of Nene should consider grabbing Chris Andersen for insurance.

This is just the second missed game for Duncan this season and you have to wonder if Gregg Popovich is pulling another trick like when he benched most of his starters against the Nuggets earlier this season. The Cavs decided to hold Delonte West out of Tuesday's game due to soreness in his right wrist.
X-rays were taken when West's wrist tightened up during Sunday's win over the Pistons, but revealed no damage. It appears that the Cavs are simply being cautious with West against a less than imposing opponent in the Grizzlies, and odds are he'll be back in action against the Rockets on Wednesday.
