0 Subject: All-Star Break Action

Let's get some All-Star chatter going in here! Who do we think is going to win the major events?

Three-point Shootout:
Mike Bibby
Daequan Cook
Jason Kapono
Danny Granger
Rashard Lewis
Roger Mason

Dunk Competition:
Dwight Howard
Nate Robinson
Rudy Fernandez
J.R. Smith

H-O-R-S-E:
Kevin Durant
O.J. Mayo
Joe Johnson

My money's on Kapono to repeat in the 3-point shootout, Dwight Howard to win the dunk contest, and Joe Johnson in Horse.

It'd be nice if Horse worked out well. If it does, maybe they'd consider getting rid of some of the dumber events, like the Skills competition and that weird 3-on-3 thing with one old dude, one WNBA chick, and one all-star.

I'd like to see Novak and Reddick in the 3pt contest.

Why didn't they just put Russell Westbrook and Joe Alexander in the dunk contest too? What kind of contest has only 4 people in it?

Will we need to check at game-time to make sure that Granger will compete in the shootout?

Yeah I don't know why they keep dropping the number of contestants. I remember when I first started watching in 93-94 there were a LOT of players in the competitions and even more rounds, it was much better that way.

SU, you're a mere pup if you don't remember the halcyon days of MJ, Dominique and Spud. The only recent dunk contests to rival those were the one with Vinsanity and last year's with Dwight. J-Smoove was pretty good too. Hopefully Dwight has something fresh for tonight.

If I'm going to wax nostalgic about old dunk contests, I musn't forget to mention the immortal Terence Stansbury "Statue of Liberty" dunk.

the dunk by Fernandez is the best so far but unfortunatley it took too many attmepts.

12 feet with ease. wow

Maybe the NBA should go to 12 foot baskets

I don't think anyone else could physically do the dunk Howard did from the side of the backboard given how far the ball bounced out from the side. It was full extension and unlike last year, Howard actually got contact with the rim. Amazing.

Dwight has been so creative with his dunks that it surprised me that he went with the tired old "taking off from the free throw line". When he was in high school I saw Amir Johnson take off from the free throw line and dunk DURING A GAME, building up momentum from only about mid-court and having to dribble. After seeing that, I will never be impressed by a free throw line dunk in a contest.

I can't find a link anywhere, but last night the announcers were talking about the NBA's review of the current goaltending rule. They were saying under a new rule a ball could be blocked once it hits the rim IIRC. I wonder what the chances of this change going thru would be and what impact it would have on TSN. Would a block stay at 2.5 pts since it would seem they would be easier to come by?

Rotoworld has it under Dwight Howard. It's to match or come closer to matching the International rule. IMHO, it would need to be effective next year, not in the middle of a season, if it even goes through.

It would make sense to lower the TSN points, but that's only if TSN "noticed" the rule change and the implication of it.

I don't know if it would make sense to change the points for blocks...just might mean you have to change your strategy and a guy like Howard becomes a little more valuable.

I'm personally not a fan of the halfway rule change. If you're going to change it, change it to FIBA rules. As it stands would the proposal mean you can knock it off the rim but not let offensive players touch the ball when it's in the cylinder?

Re:14 I present James White

Also it seems like it would be a rebound if someone grabbed it off the rim, not a block.

I think Chris Paul passed his audition---everyone was going to buy him Tuesday anyway but it feels safer now.

Joe Johnson with -7 TSNP. Maybe Carlos Arroyo should have been in the game instead.
