Foye and Miller for the 5th pick? What a boon for the Wizards! What is Minnesota's thinking here? Are they trying to move up or are they hoping that the Kings' smoke screen about Rubio (that they apparently don't really like him - I don't believe it) is true?!?

Jefferson to the Spurs for Bowen, Oberto and some other stiff? Nice!

I agree it's a good move for the Wiz. Not the best year for the TWolves to have so many picks. I would think they will try to package a couple which is one of many rumors.

Sounds like the Shaq to Cleve is a done deal for Sasha, Big Ben and a 2nd rounder tonight.

I liked the Cavs wide open style last year. I know Shaq blended into the Suns style under D'Antoni, but that was almost 2 years ago. It's also possible Shaq's resurgance last year was a one time thing. A little risky, but they didn't give up that much.

Pure playoffs move. Need a down low presence so it isn't LeBron on the high pick-n-roll every single offensive play.

how does this trade make sense for phoenix?

Salary dump, especially if Little Ben retires. Pavlovic's contract is only guaranteed for 1.5 (or around that) for the 4+ total, so he could be dropped to, but you'd hope for a live body in the deal.

Sarver hates the idea of paying the salary tax.

It sounds like the Suns are definitely going to buy out Sasha. If Big Ben retires the Suns will save $10M overall this year. If they trade Barbosa and Amare for T-mac it may be a boring year in Phoenix.

The Cavs lose basically nothing by getting rid of Ben's corpse and Sasha who was the 10th man . (Sasha may come back after the buyout.) Hopefully Shaq and Z can keep each other healthy by sharing minutes and both will be ready by playoff time.

It was a pretty good trade for the Cavs but the big winner here is the NBA and Nike. They'll build up Kobe/Lebron and Kobe/Shaq all year and you can almost guarantee there will be a Cavs/Lakers game on Christmas.

oh, i thought pavlovic was getting nearly 5 mill and wallace 14 mill. if wallace retired i guess that would help. Whats the deal with ilgauskas? he has a player option im sure he wants, hes coming off the bench?

Ben's savings will come via the luxury tax if he retires.

Z will come off the bench.

The Cavs beat reporter is saying the Cavs are looking at Sheed with the mid level exception which would mean Varejao is leaving.

Hollinger just mentioned a trade is brewing during his chat:

Nets and Magic are apparently working on a Vince Carter trade, according to our Chad Ford. Rafer Alston, Courtney Lee and Tony Battie would go to New Jersey.

The Shaq move was made strictly because of Howard pushing Z around that entire series. They didn't give up much to get him (and Pavlo might come back to the Cavs, in the end) but I think that is a bad move for the Cavs.

I fully expect to take some heat for this, but the Cavs set records during the season and zipped through their two series with Z on the floor. To make this move because Dwight had his way with Z is misguided, IMO, mostly because the reason the Cavs lost that series was because Mo Williams couldn't hit the side of a barn.

Their matchup problems (mostly with Turk) and the obviousness with which Howard had his way only because evident because the Cavs had no scoring option after James, as they did throughout the entire season. Take away Mo Williams and what do you have? A bunch of little problems that suddenly become big ones.

The Cavs will lose at the free throw line, and will lose the ability Z brought to pop out for the 15 footer (and he made 15 3's last season). Z averaged more blocks and rebounds than Shaq. Anyone think Shaq is quicker than Z? Anyone?

Shaq won't get pounded down low, and people won't go around him. But when Mo Williams is knocking down 18 a game, that's something I'd be willing to live with.

Come on, at worst this won't improve the team and at best they added a dominant post player to a 66 win team. This is a low risk, very high reward situation.

This move wasn't a direct response to what Dwight did in the ECF but an opportunity to upgrade without giving up anything. They proposed this same offer in February but Phoenix unfortunately wanted Wally instead of Ben which would have put the Cavs $14M more over the cap this year.

The Cavs were already a slow offense last year that was very efficient. Alternating Shaq and Z won't make that big of a difference.

I agree that they were good enough to win a championship as is but this does not make them worse.

Either way it will definitely make for an interesting year.

Perm Dude...I'm not going to disagree with your assessment; however, I think what may matter more is what LeBron thinks. From what I understand, LeBron wanted Shaq, Shaq wanted LeBron and right or wrong, they'll both be more apt to prove everybody else wrong and will themselves to a championship.

Not putting down Orlando's fine season but with KG coming back (hopefully healthy), then I think the Cavs biggest hurdle will be the Celtics.

I look forward to seeing The Big Witness closing out his career in Cleveland.

Yeah, wasn't the whole problem with Z that Howard was just outrunning him down the court?

The Rockets are reportedly afraid that Yao Ming (broken left foot) will miss a significant portion of the 2009-2010 season -- in a worst-case scenario, his career could be in jeopardy."It sounds like he’s missing most of next season, if not the entire 82 games," said one league executive with knowledge of the situation. Houston plans on sending Yao to three more specialists before making any announcements, but we already know that his re-fractured navicular bone isn't healing properly. Losing Yao for an entire season would obviously devastate the Rockets, who just lost Dikembe Mutombo and would be scrambling for a viable starting center. Jun. 29 - 2:30 pm etSource: Yahoo! Sports

Sounds similar to what Z went through early in his career. It took him quite a while to get untracked. I would have to think Yao could come back at a high level even if he sits out next season.

That's true. Took about 3 seasons for Z to get going.

GO: Howard wasn't outrunning him, but going around and through him in the post.

Gordan and Villanueva have supposedly reached agreement with the Pistons. I was under the impression that teams were not allowed to speak to the player or player's agent until the free agency period started at midnight.

Seems to me that some sort of conversations had to be conducted by somebody on both sides despite the rules. Guess that's just how business is done these days. Tampering is en vogue!

Artest to the Lakers; Ariza to the Rockets. Why not just keep things status quo?
