0 Subject: Consolidated Draft picks: 2009-10 RIHC and QLs

Posted by: Guru
- [330592710] Sun, Oct 25, 2009, 23:16

The following table lists all players drafted in the 5 RIHC leagues (RIHC, 2 AAA, 2 AA) this month.

In total, 207 different players were drafted at least once. Of those:
160 were drafted in all five leagues,
9 were drafted in 4 leagues,
8 were drafted in 3 leagues,
8 were drafted in 2 leagues, and
22 were taken only once.

The "Total" column indicates the number of times the player was drafted. The "Avg" column shows the average pick, and is the basis upon which the table is sorted. The next two columns show the minimum and maximum draft pick (format: round.pick).

Each league drafted 180 players (15 rounds), so the last actual pick in any league was 15.12. If a player was undrafted in a league, his average assumes a 16th round selection in that draft.

Great stuff. Some really wide swings on a few players. And 3 people drafted Jrue Holiday?

Guru, when a player is only drafted in one draft, shouldn't the three columns be the same? Or are you assigning some higher pick number to the player in the other drafts they weren't taken in, to come up with a higher AVG that the only pick number (round/pick) they were actually taken in?

PD - When a player was undrafted, he was assumed to be taken with the 181st pick in that draft. (I said this in the last sentence before the table.) So that average will not be the same as the min and max.

I had the same question, PD. I took Przybilla late and I was the only one from five drafts to take him, whereas 2 managers drafted Ryan Anderson. However, Przybilla was ranked ahead of Anderson b/c I took Przybilla with my pick 15.09 and both managers selecting Anderson took him 15.11. That one seems a little counter-intuitive but overall it's a useful rank for sure. I went through my picks and compared them with live draft results in yahoo leagues and ESPN leagues, and it was interesting how the results differed. The masses tend to undervalue below the radar type players like Barbosa, and overvalue the big names who will have reduced roles and corresponding stats. Kind of obvious but it's nice to see it mapped out like that. I like to think that when I took a player ahead of the masses, it was because I was so much more aware of his true value, and when I took one later than most, it was an obvious steal! My math has got to break down somewhere...I'm afraid!
