He's going to take a substantial hit tonight, but I think he's holdable. It's whatever makes sense for your team I guess and how willing you are to put up with inconsistency due to foul trouble. If a lot of people bail and don't buy back into him, suddenly you have a great long-term hold. At the same time, you'd be losing money and not making money elsewhere. It's tough.

That Frye hit sucked last night, but when it comes down to it there's no way I could have sold him. I had the money to move him to Gasol, but that would require both going tradeless midweek and holding CDR through the refresh. By then, Frye would have already started going up in price again, and CDR is basically a night to night sell-off threat. I think he might have a bigger net loss by the end of the week than Frye when all is said and done.
Only move tonight is CDR to Durant, and then in a couple days Camby comes in from Noah.

I'm holding Boozer. Yesterday's loss I think was purely due to the clean fit with OKC's schedule.

Ellis and Noah to Camby and Westbrook. I need to free up $0.09, which can either come from Morrow or CDR, though leaning towards moving Morrow since he doesn't play today. Is Hansbrough really the best option here?

General strategy question - do you guys think it's worth taking on two 500k guys in order to afford a six stud wall of destruction? I'm getting really tempted to try this in the near future.

I've always preferred the barbell strategy myself. Go for it. Of course, it depends if you can find (and hold) two 500k guys. Jeffries and Casspi, maybe?
|

The tough thing is that my margin of error for hitting the swing is very low. If I go this route the plan would be set in motion tomorrow, but the actual buying of the 500k guys wouldn't take place until after the refresh probably. And when I say 500k guys, I really mean 500k. There are a few options that I like, hopefully they don't move too much by then / the players I have will move with them so it's not an issue.
My big fear is that if the 500k guys bomb, then I'm stuck with two deadspots on my team for awhile with no way out. It's much easier to get out of a 2 or 3 million dollar player than it is a 500k guy.

Alright, it's decision day. Two decisions to make, the second of which is basically season-altering.
#1 - Do I force Casspi? The way I'm seeing it right now, I'll want at least one 500k player very soon (and depending on how I answer #2, I may need two), he's the best one, the lack of short-term b2b's makes me think he'll be holdable for awhile, he seems to be the real deal, etc. I can move Ariza for him today or tomorrow. His performance in the OT game last night was less than inspiring and certainly not enough to generate the buys I was hoping for. I get the sense that I'll just have to chalk the whole Ariza experience up to bad luck and cut my losses. I could wait a few more days to do this, but by then Casspi may have doubled in price already. I'm leaning strongly towards making this move today. What do you guys think?
#2 - Duncan. Whether or not I do #1, I have enough money to move Love to Duncan. Duncan is at virtually zero ownership and is at the lowest price we'll see him all year probably. Love is highly owned and has no clear exit date, though 12/25 is looking like a strong one. The options on each of his sell days though are pretty terrible, his next two opponents are Boston and Atlanta, Duncan is the 4th highest producer all season at a bargain price, has center eligibility, can be held until mid-January, etc. Am I overanalyzing this, or should I view last night's Love game as a going away present and move Love to Duncan today? I worry that if I don't, I'll end up making a bunch of bad trades in the near future (which has been the story of this season, I feel like I'm constantly wasting trades to get out of jams).
My two fears with this:
1) The Duncan DNP concern. Will it finally happen? It's been rumored all season. But at the same time, the Spurs aren't playing well for once and need him in there to win games.
2) The makeup of my team in a week or so would essentially be six studs, one mid-ranger (Tyreke), and three cheapies. The studs essentially all have amazing longterm schedules, and at least two of the cheapies I'd plan to hold for a very long time (like what I did with Nash and Frye). So while all would be gaining money in theory, I could be missing out on a lot of mid-range options and quick trains, and at the moment have no good plan for getting back into Love on 1/6 (I feel this is essential). I'd be concerned about my FV stagnating, though I would be banking trades.
Sorry for the long post, but this is a real tough one. Do you guys have any thoughts?

Crap, so this Durant thing is an issue.
I have the option of moving him for Paul within the hour. It comes out to 3 Pauls vs. 5 Durants. If recent trends continue, Paul comes out ahead. If averages revert to normal, it's still equal, but a ton of money made probably. So based on that I'm leaning towards doing it.
But, this isn't without risk. I'd be tradeless for the rest of the week, and I have four trades that are must makes this upcoming week, and by selling Durant now instead of in a week and a half, I'm left with no room for error (I'd be making my last trade on a week from this Tuesday).
This is a very nervewracking prospect, but at the same time, if Durant takes a few big hits in the next couple days, Paul gains some, Durant has another bad game, the bleeding continues, etc...then I suddenly lose the ability to complete my possible 7 stud wall (the number is up from six, I've gotten greedy). I'm not 100% sure yet if this is what I want to do, but it's certainly an option I'd like on the table.
Would you guys go for it? How bad do you expect the Durant bleeding / Paul gains over the next week to be?

Crap, so I made it until today without checking. I seem to have made a series of preliminary / preventative moves that have screwed up my team.
Tomorrow Camby and Dunleavy go once I get trades. The plan was to take Duncan and then preferrably a 500k GF (Jeffries, Wright, etc.) or take CDR if they suddenly started crapping out. Now I see CDR is out and Wright just put up a 6. I'm not so sure I trust QRich anymore than I do D. Wright. All of the options seem to have suddenly dried up. I really don't know what to do. Speights is looking to be the best option, but I was planning on grabbing him in a few days regardless. Part of me is wondering if I should just grab him and Duncan now, and plan to hold Frye forever.
I could take Beasley instead and pass on Duncan, but then the other slot I don't see any forwards I particularly like for 7.5 or under. Unless I commit to Gerald Wallace now right in time for two scheduled days off (which I'm glad I did not do a couple days ago) and a spotty schedule in general for a player with significant injury history.
I'm hoping Casspi remains holdable. He's been close to 20 tsnp/g all season, I'm hoping it was just a fluke bad matchup with the Bulls. I can't imagine him suddenly getting promoted and then losing his role entirely.
So basically, three options:
A) Duncan and cheap non-Speights B) Duncan and Speights, hold Frye forever C) Wallace and Beasley, skip Duncan
Any thoughts?
I really screwed up this week, blah.

Yeah, I'm with you there, I'm feeling like I need to take Duncan. Do you see any cheap F's or C's that you like? I'd like to go really long term. If I can't find one I like I think I'm going to just buy Speights. If a cheap replacement for Frye doesn't emerge by the end of the week, I guess holding him wouldn't be too bad considering I've already suffered through one of his losing periods.
I hate being limited by trades. I've been playing much more aggressively than I usually do and it's starting to come back to bite me. Given the information I had at the time of the moves I've made this past week I felt I had to do them, but I'm just getting killed by bad performances / slumps at inopportune times.

Pryzbilla went down tonight with what looks like a significant injury -- and Juwon Howard came in and put up 31 tsnp in 34 mins. I think he and Beasley will be top gainers tomorrow and, if Casspi struggles while Juwon produces in the next game, there could be a mass transfer of ownership between the two.
As it is, I'm going Dunleavy ---> Beasley tomorrow.

Argh, I have no way into Beasley without sacrificing Duncan or essentially throwing away two Frye games for nothing.
Looks like my best options are either Dunleavy to Juwan Howard or Dunleavy to Speights. What do you guys think about Howard / the prospect of holding him for a long time if he produces.
Am I going to regret not getting Beasley? Should I be forcing him?

I made two trades this morning. I had to get rid of Prz. Went to Duncan. Also went eric gordon to beasley.
I have a feeling the clippers are going to be the biggest price losers tonight. thats why I got rid of gordon. Im going to hold camby. I dont want to use three trades on wednesday

That's a really tough situation. I'd lean towards selling Camby if you can afford someone you like despite leaving you with only one trade - it seems like whatever risk you take in going tradeless later in the week (a couple money hits, potential game loss) you'd be taking on by holding Camby anyway. He has a ton of red in his schedule coming up so you'll probably be forced to sell anyway, but just at a much lower price. But it's a tough call given the Roy situation, though he does seem probable for tonight now. You may get stuck seeing some hits on a few players later in the week depending on performance, but I think Camby will outweigh that and has fewer games (though his production of course is typically excellent aside from a couple fluke games here and there).

D. Wright, Juwan Howard, or lock in Speights and plan to hold Frye forever...
At the moment I'm leaning towards "playing it safe" and just grabbing Speights and reevaluating in a few days. Taking Wright or Howard and seeing them perform horribly would pretty much be THE deathblow to my team, but at the same time if they do well I'd hate missing out because having a 500k guy in that slot would be fantastic.
If Wright does really well these next few games and he seems like a buy, then waiting is basically a net result of 1 Frye vs. 2 Wright's with the way the possible rotations shake out, which could be worth it for the safety factor. But I'd of course miss out on some initial gains. Guess it's the same deal with Howard too.
It's weird, every time I settle on Speights tonight, I convince myself holding Frye is unacceptable. Then I switch to buying someone, and I'm disappointed I can't hold Frye. It's feeling like a crapshoot.
Two hours until the Wright decision...

su, to me, depends on how much risk you want to take on with a 500k player.. if fryes ownership numbers are low enough, I'd just end up holding him for awhile longer...I have a feeling Howard is going to gain a lot then perform terrible...but that's my opinion...

Yeah my fear is that they're going to go small or just give the rookies the bulk of the playing time, since he's not exactly in their future plans.
Frye I think is at 30 something percent ownership, which is fairly high, but aside from that 1 in 5 his schedule is still good and gets great again.
Maybe the smart thing to do would be to take Speights and eat the possible losing of one cheapie game / gains, and then reevaluate things in a few days. If either puts up a single digit game tonight I'd be pretty much ruined, whomever I take in that slot I'd want (and really, need) to hold for a long time. Holding Frye forever also doesn't leave me tradeless in the middle of the next week (or eating some losses in order to avoid going tradeless).
