This is per David Aldridge on Twitter. One would have to imagine that the finger pistol pre-game antics last night was the final straw for Stern. |

David Stern has suspended Gilbert Arenas indefinitely without pay.
"Although it is clear that the actions of Mr. Arenas will ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse, his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game," Stern said in a statement. This is obviously a devastating blow to Arenas' fantasy owners, who will eventually have to decide whether or not to cut him loose, though the wisest course of action is probably to see what news surfaces of a possible timetable in the coming days. In the meantime, Randy Foye and Earl Boykins are worth adding in most leagues.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports cites a NBA source who says, "[David] Stern feels like he's been taunted by [Arenas]. He's done for the year... at the very least."
Between Arenas' incessant tweeting and using his fingers as fake guns on Tuesday -- the same day that he reportedly said "Stern is mean" -- he clearly got The Commish's attention in the worst way possible. We would be very surprised to see Arenas appear in another game this season, and it sounds like Stern could push for even more. Though he may have been acting in what he thought was an innocuous, fun-loving manner, the sum effect is that Arenas made the wrong person very angry, and is now going to pay the price. Happy 28th birthday, Gilbert.

Any chance P. Burress and G. Arenas were seperated at birth?
As for Mr. Stern, I have lost all respect for this guy. An individual in his organization has made a public statement admitting to breaking the law and he stands by and does nothing about it (not to mention all the other evidence they have that we don't know about). Yet the minute said individual mocks Mr. Stern, now the season long suspension comes out. Lesson in this one, break the law = slap on the wrist someday. Mock Mr. High and Mighty = serious crime with serious punishment.

Mike and Mike on ESPN made a good point. If they brought a gun, loaded or not, to their place of employment, they'd be fired. Period.
Same goes for my job and most others, I would imagine.
Seems like once he admitted publicly that he had guns in the locker room, it should have been pretty straightforward.

I am TOTALLY with G on this. NBA players commit haneous crimes off of the court and do not receive this level of punishment. Okay, I absolutely see how Arenas brought this directly into the NBA - almost literally onto the court - by bringing guns into the locker room - so I see the difference. It is stupid of Arenas and very deserving of some level of punishment.......but there is no doubt in my mind that this punishment has more to do with Arenas' comments towards Stern than it has to do with the maliciousness of the crime.

Washington Post's Michael Lee twittered that Arenas to be suspended rest of this season. The Wizards have not decided yet whether to void the remaining 4 years of his contract.
