The difference really isn't that much. Some states, for example, have instituted rules which allow them to collect taxes on visiting players. And federal taxes would apply no matter where he plays.

BTW, I think he should stay in Denver. Not known as a "sports town," nevertheless it is a great town and an awesome place to live in.

Its not some states, its ALL states that have income taxes.
All pro athletes they are required to file income taxes for every state and city they play in.
The money an athlete earns is prorated based on how many games are played in each state/city.
A buddy of mine was the CPA for a well known baseball player and his tax return (including copies of federal returns that had to be attached) was literally 18 inches high.

These states are... Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming. In addition, New Hampshire and Tennessee only tax residents on Interest and Dividend income, not wages or self-employment income. Kudos to all these states!
These states have chosen not to penalize their residents for working hard and earning money. Instead, they tax residents on the things that they purchase, allowing citizens to have some control over what they pay - spend less, pay less in taxes. Like Albert Einstein said "the hardest thing in the world to understand is the income tax".

I don't think this need turn into a debate about the merits of progressive taxation. But state budgets are far less about where it comes from than where it goes. Just because all those states (sans Alaska, which has a reverse tax because of oil revenue sharing) has figured out ways to tax other areas higher (like corporate taxes, food, gasoline, etc) doesn't mean that they are suddenly bastions of hard working people. So long as those people buy food, drive cars, etc etc they are still doing to get socked.

Agree....I know Texas has far higher Property taxes than say Michigan. It will all find it's way out of your pocket...LOL
Now back to Melo Where is he going and when. With the latest news it might be sooner than we think.

I think the Cavs have a lot of cash lying around right now. I realize they are still shell shocked after Lebron, but the fact that they are not in the market trying to bring another big name in is unbelievably bad form for them.

So Chi and NY huh? I can not see Chi giving up some young talent that do all of the intangibles...like Noah. I think Chi has a great team already with Carlos joining them...they are going to be real tough. I woudl think NY is the place he should go for sure and if NY can get him mostly for picks then hell ya

Sure hope that is true because this reminds me a lot of the idiots in Chitown who balked at giving up Luol Deng in a package for some guy named Kobe. Wow, really missed a disaster there. Likewise, who would be the coverboy on the Bulls calendar if they trade away Noah? Who needs 28 ppg when you can have intangibles and a ponytail?

I agree and hear ya Kobe Bryant for Deng is a slam dunk but in this case it is now Dang and Noah for NOT Kobe but Melo. I just think Chitown has a great team already and Melo does not add much when you get rid of those two for Melo. The Kobe Deng trade I suspect had more then just Dang as well.

#12: My recollection is that Bryant vetoed any trade which would have included Deng. If he was going to be traded to the Bulls, he wanted to make sure there was still talent left. I believe the Bulls were basically offering to gut their team to get Bryant (Deng, Gordon, Noah, and maybe another player).
