Subject: Fastpoint (RotoHog) cancels all its football games

I just received word that Fastpoint Games (the new name for RotoHog) is cancelling all its salary ca football games in mid-season.
This must mean that they finally realized what TSN found out a couple of years ago that there's no profit in salary cap games.
So should the NBA lockout ever end, don't count on a Hoops game from them.
As another Gurupie just said in an email I got: "What a sad and pathetic ending to Smallworld/TSN/Rotohog/Pastpoint games, the greatest fantasy game of all time." |

I used to love the Smallworld free fantasy salary cap games. This community used to thrive as everyone shared who they were going to drop and pick up and we seemed to control the market. Was always nice to make a bunch of money early and be able to have the roster you wanted for the second half of the season. Plus playing games like LRV and 500K was pretty fun.

Other than not making money--what caused the decision to end their games. Hockey closed today also. It seems with these actions it would hurt their branded games also that they do get fees for.

Not entirely true. Fireleague still runs a salary cap game identical to what Rotohog/Fastpoint was running.
It is true though, that it appears to be the last of a dying breed. Our league is in its 12th year dating back to the Smallworld days and should Fireleague pull the plug I'm not sure there will be a home for us...though the same thought crossed my mind in the shuttering of Smallworld, The Sporting News, and Rotohog before this year and we're still chugging along.

OC, I wouldn't count on anything going forward but I do agree that Fire league is the best chance we have. They have prioritized football followed by baseball which is smart. Unfortunately the only game I am truly passionate about is hoops. I honestly think we have seen the last of the salary cap hoops game as we know it.

I used to post here a lot about 5-10 years ago, when I played these games every year...
Hearing that the lockout was resolved and being unemployed for a while, I figured I would try to play the game again...I guess that won't be happening?
Any other word that TSN may do a basketball game?

I did exchange emails with the president of Fireleague yesterday. They will not be offering a basketball game this year. Their efforts will be to get ready for baseball.
This doesn't necessarily mean that they won't offer basketball in the future. It just means that they do not believe they have the time to get a basketball game up and running without quality control risks.
