Well, I suspect my 6 months of unemployment is coming to an end...in Mesa AZ.
I knew next to zilch about Mesa when I applied for the position, but passed the interview and am now waiting for clearance on a background check and polygraph to be scheduled.
So, counting my chickens before they are hatched (actually getting the offer that is), geographically, what are the spots for a family of 5 (me, wife, 13,11,7 year old boys)...considering we are in 2200 sq ft ish (wouldn't mind going smaller) and am on about an acre (gotta hit baseballs somewhere).
Looking at Google maps, there looks to be a golf course every other block. Not sure what I make of that, other than snowbird central.
So...fill me in on Mesa. |

RSF, Just sent an email to a Gurupie who lives in the Phoenix area for you. You might post your email so he can contact ya.

Thank Challenger.
Seattle Zen, funny thing, I was spying a job up the Clallam way (Port Angeles I think) a week or three ago. Think I opted not to apply...unnatural balance of Gurupies or something.

Don't live in Mesa. Kinda ghetto.
Scottsdale = upscale Tempe: Old area. Tons of ASU hotties walking around in nothing. Good for me as a single guy -- evil for a married fart like you. Very central to everything though. Chandler: once one of the fastest growing cities in America, now probably a pretty good deal if you want to buy given the high number of foreclosures. Relatively new (i.e. last 10 years) suburb.
I'm sure either Farn or rfs would know a bit better.

RSF, don't be afraid to live outside of Mesa. Like Species said, Chandler and Scottsdale are very nice areas.
I can attempt to answer any questions you have although I've only lived in Scottsdale for 5 years.

Yeah, I was just looking at how tight proximity all those communities really are. The drive from Scottsdale or Tempe is about the same as I used to drive to a job here in town. Also, considering I was giving myself a '60 miles each way' limit for finding a 'local' job (Portland OR to Olympia WA), those miles in AZ aren't squat.

Should also add that if you end up in Scottsdale and want advice on which Scottsdale school to send your kids to I can help there too.

RSF, feel free to give me an email if you have any questions. I recently moved to Scottsdale from central Phoenix, and go to church in Mesa.. I'd recommend Scottsdale highly, but there's good spots all over. Housing prices are way down and good deals are plentiful, whether you'd be buying or renting.
