I will activate the draft later today. Although the planned start is tomorrow (Friday), I want to activate early in case people want to set up queues in advance. Early picks are permitted, if you are ready. The clock will not start until the completion of round #1, barring an inordinate delay.

I am going to use a 4-hour clock, as we used last year. The draft clock will continue through weekends. There will be an 8-hour clock moratorium each night from midnight until 8:00am Eastern time. Picks can continue to be made during the moratorium period, but the clock will be paused. Those picking at the endpoints do not get a double clock. In addition, if anyone is already in arrears for a pick when their next pick is due, they do not necessarily get a second clock period. This will be subject to Commissioner discretion.

The draft is configured for only PG, SG, SF, PF, and C. Many players will be eligible for multiple positions; just choose the position designation that seems most appropriate. This is only for the purposes of displaying the draft results, and has no bearing on your eventual usage options.

Our roster configuration will be as follows:
PG, SG, G, G
PF, SF, F, F
C, C
Util, Util
3 bench
2 injury slots

Since our league is hosted at Yahoo.com, Yahoo position eligibility will be used throughout the season. You are advised to check the Yahoo league site prior to selecting any player to ensure that you know that player's position eligibility at the start of the season.

You do not need to draft a completely valid roster.

Following the draft, all undrafted players will be placed on waivers, and waiver priorities will start out in inverse draft order.

You may draft a player who is not currently listed at Yahoo. If you do so, you will be assigned a placeholder player at Yahoo until the drafted player is made available, at which time you must pick up that player as a free agent (without using a waiver priority). After the 15 rounds of the draft are completed, you can no longer claim an unlisted player.

This league will have a limit of 84 games per position. Since there are 2 slots for each of G, F, C, and U, those position slots will be subject to a combined limit of 168 games.

In addition to the traditional use of a designated picker, the software now allows for “auto-picks” to be made by the system from your queue. Also, queues can be separate for each pick. Please review the Draftime help page for a more complete description of queue management and designated pickers.

I recommend that you do not make your queue available unless you very intentionally want someone to make a pick for you, based on specific instructions. If you simply want to pick the tom[ name in your queue, then use autopick. You can set a time delay for the autopick, in case you want a chance to pick manually, should you be available at the time.

You can use this thread to alert others about your availability, to request volunteers to accept a queue, to raise questions about draft rules or mechanics, to solicit trade offers or announce trades, etc. Please refrain from mentioning any undrafted player in this thread.

Based on last year’s draft, it is reasonable to expect that we will average approximately 24-30 picks (2-2.5 rounds) per day. Do not assume that you'll have a day off. Please be prepared to make 2-3 picks per day.

After two rounds have been completed, I will start a separate thread for draft rationales. We will then try to keep the rationale thread on a 2 round delay.

#1. Interested if there were any past info or thoughts on how pick should be valued to trade up or down in given round. I would expect early rounds would come at more of a premium and late round just switching picks in two consecutive rounds since one cannot trade a pick for next year.

#2 If I had drafted an injured player would it be possible to acquire extra late pick from someone and be able to have him on team prior to acquiring on waivers--ie would be in IR at end of draft and actually have 16 players when draft ends.

#2 No. You can only draft 15 players. If you draft someone who is immediately eligible for an injury slot, you must wait until after the draft to add a 16th player.

#1 I think you're generally correct. It's often difficult to pull off trades during the draft, since so many people typically pick via queue (meaning they are less likely to be checking for or considering offers) - esp. after the first few rounds. So even in the later rounds, you might need an extra inducement just to get someone's attention.

I might be willing to move down in rd 2. If anyone is looking to move up then let me know. I won't pick until the morning.

Several times, a queue has been made available to me, with no prior notice or instructions. Since you have the option to set your queue to autopick, I don't know how to interpret your intentions without any guidance.

If you simply want me to pick the top name on your list, then please use autopick. There is no need or benefit to having me (or any designated picker) involved.

If you don't want your queue to be visible, then do not mark it as "available". Even if you have not set up any designated picker, as the commissioner I am automatically treated as a DP for everyone.

If you want to use a DP because you need some logic applied (i.e., don't take two players at the same position), then I need to know that!

Currently, mailedfoot's queue is available to me - but I have no idea why (whether he wants it used or not.) I'm going to wait for awhile to see whether he shows up, in spite of the fact that we are running behind an acceptable pace.

If I'm not mistaken, Auto pick is new, I might be wrong however, I was not aware, I left Millsap in my Queue, turned it on, but fell asleep... 2AM at that time for me...

[6] Autopick was available for the RIHC draft last year, so everyone in this league already has had experience with it.

Apparently, some have forgotten about it.

Please familiarize yourself with the queue management options, and make use of autopick (with or without delay) as often as possible. Note also that queues can be round specific.

Also, if you are posting rationales out of sequence, please post them in this thread (as requested above), rather than in the rationale thread. This greatly facilitates my ability to get it into the correct sequence.

Can we see the draft as it's going on? I know it's been made available in past years. Thanks!

Thanks for the good work on submitting rationales. Jasonprof and Florian are still holding out, but everyone else is "on the board".

I'm hoping we can pick up the draft pace in the next few days, now that the opening rounds are completed. We're only averaging 1:47 per pick through 4 rounds. That average needs to get to 1 hour or (preferably) less. At the current pace, our projected finish is November 1, which is unacceptable.

It's customary for drafts to speed up at this juncture, so I'm not worried yet. But we need to make it so.

We made good progress yesterday on pace and rationales. Thanks to everyone for staying alert!

If we can maintain yesterday's pace (24 picks), we will finish on Saturday, which was the original target. Of course, that may mean that Swish City will be keying in his last pick while standing at the altar!

My last pick 9:11 somehow autopicked although i do not remember doing that ever. As it is that was okay although I was not sure so it must be destined for me. I think have made sure autopic does not work for nex pick 10.2. If it does autopick can you stop the pick please. I should be back by Noon or 1 oclock evaluate picks.

twolves - prior to your pick, I could see that you had autopick turned on for that last pick, but it was not set for the next one.

I'm enjoying these rationales. Thanks for the effort. Then again, the occasional "What the hell, I needed a C" is fun too.
