I will activate the draft later today. Although the planned start is tomorrow (Friday), I want to activate early in case people want to set up queues in advance. Early picks are permitted, if you are ready. The clock will not start until the completion of round #1, barring an inordinate delay.

I am going to use a 4-hour clock, as we used last year. The draft clock will continue through weekends. There will be an 8-hour clock moratorium each night from midnight until 8:00am Eastern time. Picks can continue to be made during the moratorium period, but the clock will be paused. Those picking at the endpoints do not get a double clock. In addition, if anyone is already in arrears for a pick when their next pick is due, they do not necessarily get a second clock period. This will be subject to Commissioner discretion.

The draft is configured for only PG, SG, SF, PF, and C. Many players will be eligible for multiple positions; just choose the position designation that seems most appropriate. This is only for the purposes of displaying the draft results, and has no bearing on your eventual usage options.

Our roster configuration will be as follows:
PG, SG, G, G
PF, SF, F, F
C, C
Util, Util
4 bench

Note that we will not be using injury slots this year.

Since our league is hosted at Yahoo.com, Yahoo position eligibility will be used throughout the season. You are advised to check the Yahoo league site prior to selecting any player to ensure that you know that player's position eligibility at the start of the season.

You do not need to draft a completely valid roster.

Following the draft, all undrafted players will be placed on waivers, and waiver priorities will start out in inverse order of the draft selection round.

You may draft a player who is not currently listed at Yahoo. If you do so, you will be assigned a placeholder player at Yahoo until the drafted player is made available, at which time you must pick up that player as a free agent (without using a waiver priority). After the 16 rounds of the draft are completed, you can no longer claim an unlisted player.

This league will have a limit of 84 games per position. Since there are 2 slots for each of G, F, C, and U, those position slots will be subject to a combined limit of 168 games.

The Draftime software now allows for “auto-picks” to be made by the system from your queue. Queues can be separate for each pick. Please review the Draftime help page for a more complete description of queue management and designated pickers. In general, designated pickers should not be needed.

I recommend that you do not make your queue available unless you very intentionally want someone to make a pick for you, based on specific instructions. If you simply want to pick the top name in your queue, then use autopick. You can set a time delay for the autopick, in case you want a chance to pick manually, should you be available at the time.

You can use this thread to alert others about your availability, to request volunteers to accept a queue, to raise questions about draft rules or mechanics, to solicit trade offers or announce trades, etc. Please refrain from mentioning any undrafted player in this thread.

Based on prior drafts, it is reasonable to expect that we will average approximately 24-30 picks (2-2.5 rounds) per day. Do not assume that you'll have a day off. Please be prepared to make 2-3 picks per day.

After two rounds have been completed, I will start a separate thread for draft rationales. We will then try to keep the rationale thread on a 2 round delay.

Guru we may have a problem CC picked Seth Curry instead of (I assume) Steph Curry and I had autopick on and picked him. I don't know the protocol but I think it should be fixed. My pick was going to be Kyrie so before we get too far ahead we should get this fixed. If he wanted Seth I apoogize and Stephen Curry is fine with me.

Yep - I need to fix this.

Coldwater seems to have mistakenly drafted Seth Curry, rather than Steph Curry. Then tommyd autopicked Step Curry.

I think I can fix this up - let me figure it out.

I can reverse pick 5, but need to find out who was next on tommyd's autopick queue. I've asked Fred at draftime, but will also try to contact tommyd.

Until then, we're in stopped mode.

Coldwater Coyote starts the season with one demerit!

tommyd you took my guy...which was extra rough since you already had Kyrie Irving....and I thought you might go big with this pick. I even tried to trade up to get Conley. He should have a nice season for you (and for me in G20).

The draft is currently paused and it is 8:28am EST. In addition Swish somehow missed his pick last night even though I believe the previous pick was made at 7:56pm central time (8:56EST), so the draft pause should have started before his pick was missed. Is the draft pause actually midnight to 8am central time?

Is anyone in the next few picks(40-44 overall) willing to trade their current pick (4th round) in addition to their 8th and 10th round picks for my 5th round, 7th round and 9th round picks?

Ideally wanted one of Millsap, Duncan or Gasol; as they were picked with the last three picks I'm no longer interested in trading for an extra 4th round pick

I'll be away all day, returning late afternoon or early evening. I don't think my pick will be due before I return - but if any other administrative needs arise (e.g., trade processing), it may have to wait. I'll have smartphone access, however.

Something is screwed up with the draft. I just picked within the past half hour

Drafttime shows the pick @ 7:30, although I'm not sure what time zone that could be, it seems to be 2 hours off, BUT there is no way Tommy D timed out

At 9:34 am I got an email that I was up for my 6th round pick and then I loaded the draftime software/page and it showed Dave R as being up...and not me. Now I check it again and it shows me as up and it sounds like Dave R and Tommy D got their guys. I need to do a little more checking but should be able to make my pick before too long here.

The draft pause clock was mis-calibrated with daylight savings time, causing the draft pause to be delayed by an hour. In the process of correcting that, the system clock was reset to GMT, causing some picks to time out. As I understand it, all issues were soon corrected, which involved resetting the draft back to a prior state. So some picks had to be re-entered.

Well Florian, depending on how Nash's season goes, one of us is going to be very happy and one of us not very happy. He was the top pick in my queue when I came on the clock this round and he had been since my pick the previous round. I agonized over this pick and I just could not pull the trigger on Nash here. If you get 65 games at 32 minutes it will be a decent value pick here I would say. I stayed away because I was fearing 52 games at 28 minutes each.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one considering Nash here. I actually considered taking him a round earlier, but the injury concerns kept me away. I'm not too worried about the minutes played. I figure he'll get close to 30 minutes played. I'm hoping that with a full training camp with the current system and Kobe likely out to start the year Nash can get a good start and hopefully make it through 65-70 games. We'll see.

So that last little run of PG's really sucked was hoping one of Burke, Thomas, Jackson or Peverly would make it back to me and of course they didn't. Jack is not so bad I guess, nice safety clause when the Irving injury happens.

Thanks, Florian. Jackson has been on my radar for a while, and i knew he'd be gone soon. This is the fun part of the draft after all! You've done your usual though - solid vets and a hint of upside.

Life in my hands again with Bynum. I think there'll be no middle ground for my team. If Kobe and Bynum deliver, i'll be in the mix. Otherwise, it's a relegation battle. It sure is not the lineup i originally expected to see when i look at my draft sheet.

I thought about Marion with my last pick, but decided to go with Splitter. At the time I thought, "I'll bet Florian takes Marion."

He fits that team's demographic profile, along with Nowitzki, Nash, Garnett,... At this point, I think he has 6-7 former 1st round RIHC picks.

Once again my team will have an average age in the 30s. I keep looking for younger guys with more upside, but with the various Roto sites promoting all the "sleepers" they are usually gone early leaving me with the option of drafting an older more established player with a clear playing time or a younger player who will hopefully emerge, but could just as easily do poorly and end up being unplayable. It seems that every time I take a chance on a younger player with potential they end up unplayble. As a result I'd much rather take the older player that I expect with outperform their draft position by several rounds than take a chance on someone who might outperform their draft position by many rounds.

Wow - for both my 13th and 14th round picks, the guy I was targeting was taken on the pick right before me.

I expect that in the earlier rounds. But in the last few rounds - not so much.

We should finish the draft sometime on Sunday. Once the draft is completed, please submit all remaining rationales.

I will load the drafted players into Yahoo and activate the league shortly after the draft completes. You will then need to set up your lineups for Tuesday's games.

All undrafted players will be subject to waivers. Initial waiver priorities will be the reverse of the draft selection round.
